About: Meet Spectre, your tiny pocket ghost password calculator. Spectre won't save
your passwords or send them off to the cloud, instead it'll generate the
password you want to see, just when you need it, from thin air.

About Password

It embodies the spirit of a multi-layered cryptographic algorithm, securely deriving every password you need purely from the combination of your name, your personal Spectre secret (don't tell!), and the domain name of the site you're logging into.

Spectre won't save your passwords or send them off to the cloud, instead it'll generate the password you want to see, just when you need it, from thin air.

Spectre's algorithm has been used to protect both personal and corporate assets for over 10 years.

- Spectre doesn’t keep your passwords on the device, or anywhere else.

Spectre is the product of 10 years of development by Maarten Billemont, a Belgian-Canadian mobile security software engineer.

- Be unavailable - your very own Spectre can rise from the dead, just by reinstalling the app or borrowing a friend's device in incognito mode.

Meet Spectre, your tiny pocket ghost password calculator.

Your personal Spectre secret is the proof of your identity.

‣ Spectre is fully open source and licensed Free Software.

- Upload your passwords to the cloud - so your passwords aren't at risk of getting leaked, mishandled or lost.

- Spectre does not keep *any* customer information, at all.

- Spectre is fully open-source, can and has been scrutinized in every detail.

‣ Spectre will always be available to all, for free.

Our sole objective is to revolutionize passwords and digital identity, by finally putting you back in the driver seat.

Great app. Mac?

I’ve been using it’s predecessor, master this app, for years, and also love this new update. Don’t mind the subscription as long as it stays up to date! Is there any way we can also get Password for mac? I really enjoyed having master this app integrated into my Mac, and am hoping we can get something similar for Spectre. Thanks

A marvelous accomplishment!

If you have been wondering how to find a secure this app system free of lockboxes and similar tech which act as an open invitation to be cracked or broken, then check out Spectre!

Best password app ever!

I was using the predecessor version for a few years. Upgraded when this version became available. Love Password.

Gives me such peace of mind; thank you

Missing keyboard symbols in ios

The colon and semi-colon symbols are missing when trying to enter a website URL in the site name field. Dev very responsive and is following up.

New, but interesting.

The concept is very nice, but Password is confusing to navigate around.

Great

Have been using Master this app for years before it was Spectre, happy to support the developer in this new iteration. App works great - best way to manage your passwords!

Only complaint is I can’t seem to figure out how to hide the passwords from showing as text in the list.

Good, but a bit misleading

I like the concept and the simplicity.

What drives me nuts is that it claims “free for everyone, forever”… then you get in and many of the basic functions are behind a subscription pay wall. I have no problem with donating to open source projects I use, but I do have a problem with misleading people by misrepresenting things.

As for the subscription, I struggle to reason for such to be.

Excruciatingly slow development. Abandonware?

As a long-time paying user of Master this app, I am compelled to say it is a brilliant app in concept. Unfortunately, it successor Spectre suffers from a poor UI and painfully slow development. As a result, I still use Master this app daily, instead of Spectre. A this app manager is only useful if it is available across mobile devices and desktops alike.

For at least the last two years, the Spectre.app website has claimed 'coming to these other platforms soon'. Upon launch of Spectre as the successor to Master this app, I supported the dev immediately with an annual subscription of $40.99.
Projects like this deserve support, and I put my money where my mouth is. Unfortunately, little has changed since.

Its predecessor, Master this app was available for MacOS, and was available on iOS until it disappeared from Password store, leaving only Spectre. Sure, the Spectre iPad app will run on MacOS with M1 chips or higher, but it is a frustratingly buggy experience, to say the least. I have submitted detailed Spectre feedback multiple times and received no response whatsoever, even though I have communicated with the dev in the past regarding Master this app.

The developer effectively killed off Master this app: its website now redirects to Spectre.app and Password is no longer available via Password Store
In essence, he forced loyal customers to accept a replacement app that is both limited to iPad only ánd more complicated to use. All for the low, low annual price of $40.99 if you want to use all features. The developer states on spectre.app (under community) that Spectre is 'a personal project'. Ergo, a pet project that is low on the priority list of daily tasks. this app management is way too important to be left to the whims of a single man.

Dev, if you no longer have the desire or time to work on Spectre, that's your prerogative, but then please consider open sourcing the project so others may build on the foundation you created. Master this app/Spectre is too revolutionary a concept to just let wither away and die. In addition, it is disingenious to ask Spectre customers for subscription fees if you yourself no longer consider development a priority, for whatever reason.

Look elsewhere for this app management that is reliable and under active development.

Great developer!

Excellent app with easy to use interface. Simple solution to a very complicated issue of storing passwords safely. Been using it for a couple of years now with only one minor issue. Sometimes Password would get “stuck” after the this app is entered but if I close it and reopen the issue resolves.

A little intimidating,

Yeah at first it’s a little intimidating, so I suggest setting up on a website/account that isn’t too important and easy to reset your PW if needed. But once you understand how the system works and how brilliant it is. Honestly there’s no going back. I still have my Lastpass, but for my very important accounts that I absolutely cannot risk anything happening too, I’ll actually use Password. Just don’t go changing the settings after you’ve already set the PW. Lol
