The device meets all the needs i was looking for when shopping around, however the software required to utilize all functions is horrible. The fact that you have to share your location to even use ZYCami is a huge red flag.

On the bright side the device does work as intended and has limited functionality with stock and third party camera apps, you just end up losing some of the convenience oriented features such as quick swapping between front/rear cameras.

Overall I plan to continue to use the device with the stock iOS camera app and some other third party apps, however when I am in the market for a replacement I will be looking elsewhere.

For having great product, no…you do not need ZYCami to run this. Bluetooth is all you need. Sure SOME features don’t work without ZYCami but why would an App need access to everything? Your microphone, your photos, your location, your data…literally everything. I’m unsure how Apple allowed something like this on their App Store with all of the issues with hacking and identity theft going on today. I do NOT recommend downloading ZYCami for any reason because they do not need your information to use an accessory. Just turn on your Bluetooth and connect and it should start working once it’s paired.

ZYCami is broken. A lot of times now it’s give “unknown” error message. It won’t record and the phone screen freezes. Every time this happened I have to force close ZYCami which is very frustrating as it happened while you’re in the middle of recording or just about to start recording. Devices I used are Zhiyun Smooth 5 and iPhone 12 Pro Max. Planning to return the gimbal if ZYCami problems persists.

I received my Smooth X for Christmas and absolutely love it. ZYCami is very user friendly and their instructions and costumer service is great. Before downloading ZYCami, I read the reviews and was shocked. I don’t get why people are hating on it so much. Am I missing something? Anyway, I love ZYCami and my Smooth X.

The camera software requires you to register, and on top of that is filled with clips and what appear to be social networking features. It’s distracting, confusing, and an unnecessary privacy intrusion.

Just give us a simple app that allows us to record video, control the gimbal, and otherwise stays out of the way.

I’m returning the Smooth X over this; the hardware is nice (if limited), but I don’t want to have to deal with this messy app.

True to connect the product to my iPhone 13, but it kept telling me it was taking too long.

Looked at the instructions over and over again, but couldn’t find any way to make my phone connect with this product.

The website was not helpful either. Nothing on the site explained how to make it work. I eventually gave up and returned it.

Using with a newly purchased Smooth 5. Using native app will not record in HDR (10 bit Dolby Vision). Using iPhone native app does not allow use of record button or focus/zoom dial. Great gimbal with a useable app that limits the video capability of the iPhone. Hoping for app update soon as S5 is a new release.

I have removed app and reinstalled it many times. Turned off my phone and turned it back on many times. It goes as far as telling me the Bluetooth is connected but says that WiFi cannot connect even though I have strong signal. I will never know why a company releases something that they know has problems and ruin customer confidence in them.

The gimbal app is too intrusive. I don’t trust a company that needs that much personal information for a product like this. Too bad — it appears to be a neat product. I will get something else due to the fact that ZYCami is required for full functionality, but too much personal info is being required and sent to China. No thanks.

ZYCami is very intrusive and should raise privacy concerns. Location info, registration and a lot of personal info to use after paying for the product. When trying to sign up it is asking for a lot of personal info, I have privacy concerns and immediately deleted. I’ll use a 3rd party app as others suggested. Avoid.

no matter what i do, this stupid thing keeps trying to track nothing when it’s not even capable of tracking a person. completely unusable. i was supposed to be getting it refunded for a review but i can’t stand it and won’t give it a good review and it’s not worth having the trash of it around for no reason.

The smooth 5 device it’s self is well made and I like it lots. The software is horrible. Also noticed the gimbal jumps when you try to tilt up or down for shots. Needs to be smoother. You guys are going to loose customers with this. I was pumped to use this but can’t do anything with ZYCami worth while.

The gimbal is cool but by using ZYCami you don't have any privacy, it doesn't let you record without full access to all of your photos and your location (and it should be on or it doesn't let you in), why?! Im surprised Apple gave permission to app like this .

I have had 4 zhiyun gimbals (smartphone and standard) and i love the smooth 5. but ZYCami NEEDS to be updated so that ALL THE CONTROLS., mainly the focus/zoom wheel works as advertised. currently the focus wheel does NOT focus, tho it does zoom. but i want the focus racking wheel to function as this is WHY I BOUGHT THE GIMBAL. Please fix this.

Why does it require WiFi and location to use this?! It’s basically a selfi stick. Once you allow connection to your wifi this device can access all your data! And why does it need to track where you are?!

ZYCami makes a $220 dollar purchase (Gimbal) pretty much useless. As of 01/26, none of the buttons or quick functions on the Gimbal work with ZYCami . Nothing can be adjusted from the gimbal, and the different capture modes have to be switched manually from ZYCami

Confused with the reviews here, ZYCami connected just fine and works very well.

You have to give up your location to @@@ gov - otherwise it won’t let you connect to the device. This is a surveillance equipment.

Why make something so simple complicated? ZYCami does not work. Waited so long to get this just to be unable to use it because of a subpar app that is required to use the device. TRASH!!!

The gimbal broke with a month and customer service is terrible. The ap is not user friendly either. I would NOT recommend this headache to anyone.

Looking for the device. The device is on, but connection failed every single time or cannot find the device 😭 rebooted, redownloaded. Not working.

Cannot connect to the device and constantly doesn’t work. Also asks for unnecessary personal information. Avoid.

There is a terrible delay for ZYCami to coonect with the gimbal. The gimbal is sometimes useful but the mode view is to small and hard to read in sunny lighting conditions.
