Mantis Laser Academy Reviews

I’ve been a MantisX user for years, got one of the first Blackbeards this summer and recently participated in the beta for MantisLaserAcademy. I have used several other laser training apps/subscriptions the last few years in combination with a SIRT pistol, and was often frustrated by technical issues, software limitations, etc. My time using MantisLaserAcademy has gone flawlessly, it is the best laser training app I have used. Very quick and easy setup, reliable shot detection, drills that make sense, and recording training history are all fantastic features that set Mantis apart. I’m excited to see where they take this from here. Highly recommended for anyone serious about improving their shooting during these times of scarce ammo.

I bought this to help (be more comfortable from different firing positions, aim, dry fire training, timing, and just plain fun) me. I was not let down. The sounds make you feel like your almost on the range. This is definitely fun and great trading. It is very easy set up. Again just plain old fun right out of the box. Thank you Mantis!!!

With all the chaos happening in this world and ammo prices being at an all time high laser academy is a breath of fresh air. It compliments the mantis X10. I like laser academy when it comes to holster draws and actually being able to see shots on the targets that you can print out on the mantis website. Although, mantis x10 is much more refined when it comes down to the logistics of pulling the trigger and how accurate you can get, laser academy is a bit easier to use and I wish both apps would have a way to be both integrated together. That’s the only reason for 4/5 stars, but so far so good. Wish I could afford the Blackbeard, but I’ll have to just use my mantis x10 on my rifles for now.

Used it for several hours with friends and family. Great way to introduce new shooters and teaching technique.

Using the printable targets from Maxis website was the way to go. It detects them and does a pretty good job of detecting shot placement. However, detection of the target happens after each shot and sometimes is looses one of them. The slightest change of lighting can loose it. (I.e people walking around many yards away (even away from main lighting source). Manually setting targets “remembers” where it was, but doesn’t score as nice. Shout be a way to lock the targets for while and then force detect as needed (if tripod set up gets bumped).

Pro version is insanely expensive and makes not sense as you could buy all the upgrades for cheaper (at least for now).

I could not buy any upgrades however when I tried. Not sure if that was an Apple problem or a Manis problem.

Great Tool... Not quite there yet, but I think they will get it there.

It’s impossible to know how the feature works before purchasing. I like the break one since I can choose the par time. The problem is I can’t go above 5 second par for practicing safe access. I paid for the holster draw non par one thinking I would have unlimited time to draw. This is not true. Now I don’t know which one would giving me unlimited or at least more than 5 seconds. Could pay for others and waste of money till I find one that works. They’re all basically the same feature with different names. Why not make one you can just customize they way you want? Besides I already spent $85 on the laser.

I have been using laser academy along with the X10. They both serve slightly different purposes. The X10 is an excellent diagnostic tool for your draw, and mechanics. Laser academy confirms your technique equates to hits on target. Even more than that, they make dry fire entertaining. I highly recommend both X10 and Laser Academy.

It’s a really nifty idea and application and more than pays for itself in terms of how it improves dry fire exercise to something closer to range time. Not 100% sure about the accuracy of the bore laser but it’s good enough for pistol work.
Lots of great exercises included.
Get the expansion pack for holster draw and other critical drills… and even some fun competitive games.

Absolutely great product! A little frustrating that is doesn't always pick up target and some targets don't have the control box. However having said that it is one of the best laser training systems on the market

I just purchased the Mantis Laser Academy and I was excited to get training with this set up. However, even though the sound is toggled on in the settings, I’m not getting the starting beep or shot sounds from MantisLaserAcademy . I checked all MantisLaserAcademy permissions and volume and it’s all the way up. I’m thinking this must be a bug.

Edit: I have checked all my volume settings and the problem persists.

Love the Laser Academy. Works easy. Little finicky on first setup. But then you get the hang of it. You can use the MantisX with it, but both operate independently. So you will need 2 phones/etc. it would be nice if the worked in conjunction, or at least turn on App Split Screen on an iPad.

I love using Laser Academy to compete with everyone. We all now know who the fastest shooter is and the most accurate. MantisLaserAcademy has so many different targets and drills so you never get tired of training!

Invaluable! After a day, I’ve already paid for MantisLaserAcademy in what I’d have spent on ammo. I just wish they would add some more drills, or the ability to customize drills further.

These guys are legit. Everything they put is rock solid, and Laser Academy is no different. MantisLaserAcademy is a ton of fun and way better than anything out there!

Your app is fun but you need to fix some problems. My screen shows red on my iPhone but not my tablet. On my iPhone it automatically shoots with out my gun shooting at target. Please fix these problems.

The newest update the split time always detects first shot as .0 and is the fastest time.
Also the ballistic offset doesnt work unless the cross hairs are on center of target. You can’t move the cross hairs to the center of the target you have to adjust the camera

I’ve had this for about a year now. It’s great for dry fire training. It’s greatly improved my accuracy without spending a fortune on ammo.

Laser Academy adds to my dry fire exercise. I haven’t been out to the range yet. I need to see if this makes me a better shooter.

There’s no way to calibrate anything and the drills register more than one shot at a time. Hopefully we get an update to fix that bugs

Enjoyed shooting the pistol targets in the shop on a cold windy day in Wyoming. Works well, instant feed back. Can wait to use the Blackbeard

Can you add in an option that shows different potential layouts for targets? Didn’t know how multi target worked till seeing Facebook ad.

It’s a really fun training tool but be careful of developing a training scar by having to manually charge the pistol. TLYF !

The free activities are great and can be very helpful. The cost to upgrade seems pretty ridiculous though.

Great feedback on shots

Training with both no beep nor visual indicator makes this application useless. I’m not sure if this only works for iPad users. Will update this review if support manages to fix it.
