Gather - Conversation Starters Reviews

Have you noticed that, whatever the demographics, a group conversation is generally inequitable in terms of who gets how much air time and listening? Even in a group that’s racially and gender-wise homogeneous, group conversation usually privileges extroverts. One of the things I love about these conversation packs is how the “rules” structure in more equity so we also listen to the reflections of our more introverted friends, family and coworkers. Or in a diverse group so we don’t perpetuate centering privileged identity groups. Another thing I love is the structuring towards authenticity over performance. One thing I wish was more well-rounded in the prompts - they’re skewed towards personality types that are “recovering perfectionists.” This is not something everyone is solving for, and it would be good to see more prompts get at other types of motivations (and fears).

It’s awesome that there are such things out there! I am marveled at the fact that you are able to enjoy some conversations for free! And let me tell you the yearly $10 is totally worth it. It unlocked so many more conversation! Gather improved my so many of my relationships and finally gave us more subjects to talk about! Instead of just making small talk.
Definitely recommend to anyone who has hit a rut in there conversations!

Gather is wonderful. Great questions for deep conversations, but also really fun for hanging out with friends. My family did the diversity and inclusion series and we really got to dig deeper into our identities and understanding how to be better allies. I’ve also done the friend conversations (and some of the romantic conversations with friends too). Those were really fun and perfect for dinners together!

Such a wonderful way to get to know new people and build closer relationships. Just so happens that we are going out with a new couple tomorrow who we like but barely know. Just the right tool at the right time!! Will be using it a lot for sure!! Congratulations to the team who came up with this. Keep up the good work!!

I’ve been using Gather for conversation questions and really like it. I’ve found other apps that have conversation starters in the past but they’re more light and not as insightful. This has an arc from beginning to end and uses really great poetry and quotes as inspiration!

I love Gather as a way to get closer to loved ones, friends and colleagues. It’s the antidote to so many things that ail as a society and the world community at large. I can’t recommend Gather enough. Also check out their other app Longwalks - perfect for the quarantine to remotely keep in touch!

Gather has changed the way I view social media. Would recommend for anyone looking for headspace during this ridiculous time.

Not every one is easy to discuss because the premises can be so broad, but a lot of them are very interesting. Glad to see that a lot of topics are added.

So many conversations. Have loved the family conversations so much.

I enjoy the questions, they’re great ice breakers and good for keeping conversations going. Why do I need to subscribe $10/year when google is a thing? I’d even understand a solid $10 direct purchase; but what’s constantly being innovated in Gather that requires a subscription? Not much that I can see.

Each conversation takes you on an experience. It’s a journey not a conversation starter.

Gather has sparked meaningful conversations between me and my friends.

Don’t expect to create great conversational moments, instead prepare yourself for a cringefest. I think devs figured they could make a quick buck by marketing this as woke. I’ll pass, thanks, this one needs a couple more hours of sleep.

There is a paywall everywhere you turn. You only get a handful of questions from 3, maybe 4 packs. Then I have to SUBSCRIBE, ie. pay 10 dollars to unlock the rest? App was advertised as free, no in app purchases. Might as well change it to $9.99. I'll stick to google, thanks.

It’s so refreshing to have a product that can help facilitating conversations that help us see each other better and share more meaningfully.

PS- I really love their other app, Longwalks, which is meant for better online conversations
