We downloaded WayfarerGPSAudioGuides and bought the cruise. Near waypoint 4, WayfarerGPSAudioGuides announced a Detour and sent us through several miles of beautiful almond orchards, to Wamble Road, then north, taking us into Oakdale. Next, to SR 108 and 10 miles east to historic Knight’s Ferry. From there, west along SR 108 to Orange Blossom Road and east along that road to end up at Knight’s Ferry again, where WayfarerGPSAudioGuides directed us to go west on SR 108, again. After nearly 4 hours on the tour, we felt we were on an endless Detour, but we had no more time available, so we quit an went home.
We enjoyed the day and the scenery, but WayfarerGPSAudioGuides was of little help.
Unlike GPS route guidance, WayfarerGPSAudioGuides gave us no sense of certainty that we were approaching or at a waypoint, street, or turn, or whether we were actually on or off of the tour route. The narrator talked, but that narrative seemed to be linked only to some of the waypoints. We would have preferred having a route map and listening to individual commentaries, keyed to waypoints, that we could call up when we wanted them.
