It didn’t read anything and every button you tap a pop up jumps in and says you need to pay for an upgrade to get that function. Dude, here’s some advice, if you’re only building an app to gather/sell info on your users at least build an app that actually functions because you’ll never get enough users to make you rich selling their personal info with this bogus app 🤦♂️
Videotachometer works but without the ability to capture video it’s not very useful. Sure, the developer says to use the iPhones build-in in screen capture but then the interface is in the video. This would be a 5 star app if it had the ability to capture video. Until that happens I can only give it 1 star.
I found Videotachometer to be incredibly useful. I didn’t trust the tachometer on my boat, and Videotachometer worked like a charm in confirming it. It’s beautifully done.
I didn’t quite understand why I needed the 2X and divided by two buttons, but it becomes clear after you’ve used it for a bit, and that you need to find the maximum RPM value that works otherwise you might be looking at halftime or quarter time or eighth time Etc., but two dollars it’s a steal.
Clever Developers should be rewarded. Well done!
It actually works! No annoying crap, no ads it seems. I bought the full version for $2 to support the developer.
Manual controls over everything: exposure time, light sensitivity (ISO), focus (auto or manual), RPM… and that's in the free version!
We used it to check the tachometer in our airplane. It worked great. Found the tachometer needs recalibrated.
I like this better than all the other apps for measuring turntable RPM (using a strobe disc on the turntable)
I used Videotachometer to measure and adjust the RPM of my evaporative cooler. Found one of my coolers was spinning at almost half the recommended rate. Fixed using an adjustable pulley. Thanks for a great and useful app.
I have been using a Miniature Aircraft Xcell tachometer for years. This allows me to use my phone (and Videotachometer!) so I have a optical tach wherever I go now. Thanks to the dev!
The accuracy is spot on. Recommended.
Agreed to +- 10 percent with laser tach, and I think this may the more accurate measurement.
Only feature I would like to see added is a slow phase shift mode about the determined frequency.
I acquired an old Snapper riding lawnmower that was reving very high until I adjusted the governor down. I wanted to verify the engine RPM was in a good spot, so I thought about the Tachometer RPM testers I use at work and started wondering if my iPhone camera could check RPM. Sure enough I found this! Videotachometer helped confirm that the old powerful little engine was running at the factory rating of 3300 RPM. I was very impressed by Videotachometer and how easy it was to use. Wish I could download it for the first time again. 5 stars
Videotachometer works great for checking rpm on our irrigation gearheads. I used to always carry a handheld tachometer with me but not any more... I've been using this for over a year and it's the greatest tool always in my pocket. Thanks
The only good general purpose RPM measurement application I was able to use without any hassle.
Be careful as half the RPM and 2X can give the illusion of video frequency match. You’ll have to pay to measure in single digit accuracy.
It may not be often you want or need to know the speed of a rotating object but for 2 bucks, this one is perfect.
Note that if you object is “stopped “ in the image but not clear, you are probably at a factor of the actual speed.
The explanation (by the developer) is pretty geeky, but the the idea is sound, and works!! (Note: the iPhone flashlight seems fairly durable, but one of the other actual strobes burned out a reviewer’s phone flashlight, which is the only camera flash!)
So: no use of flashlight except nice and steady light, as designed, to illuminate the rotating object.
I was about to go buy a tachometer when I remembered there were strobe light apps. This is stupid east to use and as long as you’re ok w/ 10 rpm increments you don’t need to pay anything.
I will say it’s a little hard to measure sub 200 RPM, although at that point you may be better off filming it in slow motion and counting the cycles
Videotachometer works better than expected. I use it almost daily at my work to see products to troubleshoot process. Had an issue when adjusting speeds, reached out for support and even though I use it in a way not intended I was helped and we found it was a iPhone update issue not an app issue. Top notch support. 5 stars all day long.
Excellent little app. Open and it works perfectly. I’m building a DC motor with grandkids for their science fair project. I wanted to show them how RPM changes with voltage input. I upgraded to the full version, not because I need that precision and may never use it again, but it was only about 10% the cost of the cheapest stand alone tach. Thanks to the developer for making this so accessible. 👍
I’ve tried several apps that use the camera’s flashlight as the timing mechanism, which works fine if you’re in a darkroom and can be within 4” of your mark. Those apps have long since been deleted. Using the video frames per second is the way to go and now you can actually see your mark to know if you have your frequency set right. Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! This is the one you want.
Works free within certain parameters. Good app though. It’s takes pictures to match up lines on rotating objects at imputed RPMs

Text with important information is added to the frames of the recorded video: the selected frame rate, exposure duration, ISO, time stamp, time difference between the current and previous frames (Tcurr.
When the frame rate of a video matches the speed of a particular part, the effect is the same as using a strobe light.
It is possible to choose a video format that has the best quality, but has a significantly lower maximum frame rate.
Since the frame rate of a video can be adjusted, this effect can be used to determine the rotational speed of a part.
