Apple Watch Review

2022-05-29

Overall I really like Foodnoms and how you can set independent macros as a complication on your Apple Watch. For someone who only tracks steps, water and protein, this is great. I use another app for steps and another for water. I like how I can just have a protein complication. The only reason why I don’t give 5 stars is because I can’t log protein on my Apple Watch. I have to go on my phone to log it. On Foodnoms I use for water, I am able to log it directly on my watch. I do realize this is nit picking a little bit and would probably be difficult logging specific food items on your watch compared to just water. No other apps offer individual macro complications and I love this app for creating this feature. It is very useful for someone who emphasizes weight lifting and chases protein intake. I think if they make it so you can log your food on the watch, it would be the cherry on top. I think they will be able to attract bodybuilders with the independent macro complication

The Best Food Tracker

2022-06-30

I’ve tried a few food tracker apps and they always tend to be overly complicated and laden with advertisements. this app breaks the norm. It’s a beautifully designed app, that was clearly designed with iOS in mind. Everything is intuitive and logging food could not be easier. The bar scanning works very well and the database of food was surprisingly thorough. I love being able to configure a meal as a recipe and then add a portion of it to my day. This is far more practical for someone who cooks a lot and doesn’t eat a lot of prepackaged food (like me). The visualizations against goals are incredibly clear and I love the widget options, which are prominently on my Home Screen. The upgrade for premium is also a steal. Even if you don’t need the premium features I’d encourage you to upgrade to help keep development going. This is a great app, hands down, and it’s really helping me get control of my eating habits. Thanks a ton for building such a wonderful tool!

The best tracking app. Period.

2022-07-31

I’ve tried them all. MFP, MP, LI, you name it. this app is by far the best and wins hands down in all the categories. It has an uncluttered UI, which I really hope will stay this way. Developers tend to add feature to their apps over time and this could be a mistake in this case. It works flawlessly, unlike buggy MFP and others. It’s also easy to use and absolutely beautiful in every way. Congrats to the developers for putting this together. Give yourselves a hand, and please don’t clutter your app with unnecessary features. It’s great as it is. I love the calorie adjustment based on activity. That one is good. Cheers.

Great app, intuitive and keeps me coming back

2022-09-01

Unlike some of the other ones in this category, Foodnoms draws me in daily. Why? Because it’s easy to use, and the data I want is right there when I launch Foodnoms . My protein and calories goals are what I focus on the most, and it’s easy to have them displayed first.

The AI/computer reading feature for scanning nutrition labels is amazing and saves a ton of time for adding unlisted food. I no longer pick “close enough” foods when I have something unique.

Best macro and micro tracker ever

2022-10-03

A while ago I use myfitness pal for about a week, I didn’t like it because it was really difficult to accurate report the weight of my food items. I then use Lifesum, that app was really good and easy to input food accurately by weight, but it’s a little too expensive. Foodnoms without the pro version gives you so much Control and plots all the nutritional information of each item, but with the pro version it just icing on the cake and cheaper than most.

Highly recommend.

Is Food Tracker

2022-11-03

First, and most importantly, Foodnoms is actually free. Full functionality with no price tag, though you can pay to access more features (caffeine, water, alcohol). Some foods are missing, and the search is a bit weird (some foods only appear if I don’t type in the full name), but still, it’s an extensive and accurate library of foods (that you can easily add to) for the unbeatable price of free. (No ads that I’ve seen either.)

Second, very nice looking, even in dark mode. The bars for calories are in a nice, understandable UI, each button is intuitive - Foodnoms looks like it could have been on my phone from purchase. (It’s a lot more useful than some of those apps though.)

In short, Foodnoms is perfect for if you have poor memory (like me) and would like to stop yourself from overeating, would like to track what you eat, or even want to plan out your meals.

Thousands of apps later, my only review

2022-12-05

This is the only time I have felt compelled to write a review for an app. Ever. This is THE best food tracker I have ever used - and I have downloaded and deleted several! Simple, powerful, editable and with plenty of options at the free level. THIS is how you make an app! You don’t deny users the opportunity to explore, plague them with ads, forcing them to pay premium versions. You give them a sleek, customizable application and show them how good it is. Then when you get premium users, they will be your devotees! Bravo Algebraica Labs!

Easy to use with a clever scanner

2023-01-05

this app presents an easy to use way to log meals and macros. It gives you an easy way to set flexible goals where it isn’t just about reaching maximums, but also keeping minimums. Tracking macros? It surfaces them right to the front with a helpful week-long graph view. No other food tracking app makes it this easy to view macros!

Can’t find a food you are eating? Scan the barcode and add it. Can’t find it still? Scan the nutritional label and the fields automatically populate. Such a clever way to add nutritional information. Best yet, it keeps common foods front and center as you use Foodnoms more.

Simple and Elegant

2023-02-06

Foodnoms is so beautiful. It matches all the iOS 13 native design which makes it feel right at home on my iOS device. It respects native dark mode which is also a plus. It has built in emailing for user feedback and bug reporting.

I can set my calorie goal, track food intake, sync with HealthKit, sync with iCloud, scan nutrition labels (not just barcodes!!), and even set the times I normally eat my meals. That way when I track a food it auto adds it to the closest meal to that time. You can also add snack times, pre workout/post workout snack times, or remove a meal time altogether.

I didn’t purchase premium but it looks like you can track intermittent fasting which is awesome. You can also have multiple goals with premium and do size estimations and track water and alcohol. I do struggle with size estimation since my meals at work at catered so this might be a reason I go premium. We shall see!

Still have a lot to try since this is only day 1 of using Foodnoms , but I have to say that I’m impressed right off the bat!

Needs improvements

2023-03-10

I really like Foodnoms, but it’s got a lot of issues that have been present since Foodnoms ’s release. Siri Shortcuts support is way too minimal. Siri mispronounces “fl oz” and “oz”. That might not even be Foodnoms ’s fault. Still, there’s no way to edit what the “get goal status” shortcut outputs. I can’t even just get the amount I’ve drunken today through the health app or something, since Foodnoms can’t write to health without being opened first.

The watch app also doesn’t update complications without Foodnoms being opened, so anything logged through Siri won’t show through the complications.

Enjoying it

2023-04-08

I recently made the switch from MyFitnessPal and am really enjoying this app. The appearance is good and the addition of Favorites, Recipes, Meals, and My Foods allows you to basically build a database of your own standard foods/meals.

When using other apps, there have always been foods/meals that are not available in the database where I then I have find a replacement to use. The nutrition scanning functionality is really amazing and allows you to easily add a ‘My Food’ into your database that is accurate to what you’re trying to capture. Really nice feature!

As simple or complex as you want

2023-05-10

I love Foodnoms (several days in.) So simple to pick the goals you want and that’s exactly what you see. And the initial setup with questions and recommendations is amazing! So is the label scanning. It’s clear the developer made something they’d want themselves and it’s not some big company designed by committee mess.

I also love that you can sync with the built-in health app so your workout calories burned can add to your daily calorie goal automagically and immediately. Perfect for me. UI could maybe be more intuitive but any app with a lot of functionality will have a bit of a learning curve/muscle memory involved.

Best nutrition tracking app for iOS

2023-06-10

Absolutely love Foodnoms. I was convinced to switch from Cronometer, and I have not looked back. Foodnoms is fast and very user friendly, and it just gets better with every update. I love being able to set ranges for my goals, and I can have cream or milk in my tea without breaking my fast as long as the entry is below 20 calories. Such a useful feature! Foodnoms 's creator is also extremely responsive to any suggestions and requests. He has already implemented several changes and improvements requested by myself or my partner through Foodnoms 's "Request a new feature" option. I cannot recommend Foodnoms highly enough!

Best iOS calorie tracking app

2023-07-12

I recently started a weight loss program. When I asked the coach if he could recommend an app for tracking calories he showed me “myfitnesspal” as the standard app. When he opened it there was a 20s loading screen, followed by a full screen video ad, then navigation to get to the calorie tracking. No thanks. I tried a bunch of different apps with similar problems. this app is the only calorie tracking app I could find that wasn’t annoying, and has a decent food database. And the tight integrations with iOS and the health app are better than I could find anywhere else. Thanks for making a well designed app that is a pleasure to use. Looking forward to further improvements to the food database.

Best app for food tracking!

2023-08-12

Foodnom is a 4.8 in my book! Foodnoms has been great! It’s been very helpful in my fitness journey. I’ve looked into a few different fitness app and this one is by far the cleanest in terms of designer and easiest in user experience.

Tracking everything is easy and quick for the most part. Sometimes nutritional labels don’t match but I’ve noticed all apps struggle with it. I do love the scanning of label features which takes most of the annoyance of logging new foods away. It’s also great for meal prep since it lets you create meals/recipes.

Let’s not forget the privacy aspect. It still blows my mind people would use mfp over this. It’s great to have an alternative for those of us that are privacy conscious.

What could make it a it a solid 5.0 for me?

The thing I thing I would love to see is more support supplements/vitamins. It does let you add vitamins but it would be amazing to see your vitamin intake and to know if you’re reaching your daily recommended amount of vitamins. It would be nice to also have custom meal times, such as vitamins and not just the standard breakfast, lunch, etc.

It would also be nice to see how much calories I’ve burned vs intake.

This app is amazing!

2023-09-13

This is by far the best macro tracking app I have tried, the design is freaking amazing as well!! Seriously you should give this a shot, it blows every other competition on the market out of the water. Foodnoms is literally miles beyond the competitors like MyFitnessPal, etc. The 30$ price tag is a bit pricey in all honesty, however, you actually don’t need to subscribe in order to access most key features; the subscription is more of a nice bonus if you’d like to utilize it. To be fair, however, Foodnoms is built 1 developer (hard to believe with how full featured it is), so I’m going to go ahead and drop 30$ for a year to help support Foodnoms and hopefully keep it on the market. To conclude my rambling review, why haven’t you downloaded Foodnoms yet??

Best food tracking app I’ve ever used!

2023-10-15

And believe me, I’ve gone through a lot of them. this app is the first one that looks nice, feels nice to use, and has every feature I’d expect and more. Scan a barcode and it’s not in the database? It’ll roll right into scanning the label, intelligently picking out all the nutritional info, so you can add it to your database - after which, it’ll ask if you want to submit it to the public database, for that crowdsourced magic. Chef’s kiss, it’s beautiful.
Beyond that, it fits in on iOS perfectly - the visual style works very well, and it saves everything to the Health app, so I can write all sorts of silly little Shortcuts to analyze my data in the weird ways I want to. I love it.
Seriously, I cannot recommend Foodnoms enough. If you’re looking for a food tracker, this is the one.

So Good, and Keeps Getting Better

2023-11-15

I don’t rate a lot of apps, but I gotta shout out this app. I came to this app from a large, “friendly” food tracking app. There are many things that app does well, but I didn’t want to keep sharing all my data with them, and I really disliked the lack of support for automating my tracking. The Shortcuts support in this app is great and I can now easily track my common entries. (morning coffees anyone?)

I’m also excited about the new community database of foods. The food database was not as big as my previous app, but it’s easy to add foods with the label scanner. Now that items can be added by the community, I’m sure the database will grow. The only problem is will it obviate the need to use the cool label scanner? I hope not!

I’ve completely switched over to this app and couldn’t be happier. I’m sure you will be too!

Using it every day for more than a year now

2023-12-17

I’ve used a few other food trackers, one for a long time, but have settled on this one now. I don’t mind paying a little bit knowing my information is my own.

And it’s great for inputting food - you don’t even have to consider the serving units like you must in some others - you can do it by pure weights or volume as well.

The database is good and it’s super easy to enter the information if something isn’t there. Almost magical how it just scans the nutrition label with the camera and inputs it all for you, which you can review before submitting (or keep it just for yourself).

Shortcut support is great too!! I use it all the time to call out to Siri to log this or that commonly eaten thing. Watch widgets too are excellent but I was having some trouble with them after an iOS update, but haven’t checked lately. I should because I used them all the time before.

I like how you can make recipes and meals too, and then just weigh them with all their component ingredients being recorded. Saves a lot of time for common things like repeat breakfasts or veggie burgers, protein shakes/smoothies, etc.

And it lets you pick things to highlight at the top of your day like specific nutrients you want to keep an eye on closely.

Honestly, this little app is part of my life now.

Best food tracking app

2024-01-17

I’ve tried many of the most popular food tracking apps and this app is by far the best. It’s simple, beautiful, and fast. The nutrition label scanner is pretty much flawless and the food library is large and ever-growing. The recipe feature is really intuitive for planning and tracking homemade meals with lots of ingredients. Foodnoms is well-designed for iPhone and iPad, and they quickly add new iOS features like HealthKit and a Home Screen widget that shows me my daily calorie intake at a glance. They respect your privacy (unlike those other apps that sell your data) too.

Overall it’s a great app and so far I’ve lost 40lb with this app!
