What a great start! Obviously designed by sailors

This is the first sailing app I’ve used that works to answer the most important questions I have as we sail: what is the current doing? Can I point to get there or will I have to tack? Well worth the price of subscription.

And more importantly, it doesn’t show extraneous information and map features that clutter up other navigation apps. This adds to convenience, but most importantly SAFETY when a split-second decision is needed and your plotter is the key source of information.

Finally it is a beautiful presentation. Our boat is beautiful, and Savvy Navvy fits right in. Other chart plotters look like the product manager’s kid chose the icons and colors.

All the features I might want aren’t here yet, but I appreciate how the company is being careful about adding what is essential, vs. throwing the kitchen sink at the product.

Love this Ap

We do most of our boating in the Florida Keys in very shallow water. We have an excellent large screen Garmin - but Savy Naviy is our go-to! Plenty of cell sigma in the Keys so it’s easy. I love the point to point feature with the sectional navigation. And the distance rings. So easy to use. I’ve turned several captains in the area on to it too. We are very happy with it. Been boating for 37 years going back to LORAN navigation, Savy Navy is definitely our ‘go to’.

one improvement

I love savvynavvy, but would make one improvement. I would like to see available routes four boats with no motor power. If there is weak wind savvynavvy says no route available, but it would be great to see a course, No matter how inefficient. For example if staying at anchor for 18 hours until the wind changes is the only possibility, it would be nice for savvynavvy to say that

Good for what it does

Charts are good. However, it would be really useful to have more chart options (safety depth, show/hide soundings, etc.). Would be handy to have more helpful routing features like only daytime sailing (find anchorage at night), being able to save routes and possibly reroute based on current weather. NMEA interface would be great also.

This is a great start but needs more features before it could rank as my main navigation app.

Little Information on charts

The charts offer limited information on bridges. There is no way to zero in on a bridge and find out any information except height.

For example, their chart for the Atlantic Highlands Route 36 Bridge in NJ is shown but not named. So no name but shows height but nothing else. No contact info, no width, no date of survey, no general comments from other users. And finally some kind of red mark on bridge. If that color is for where to pass under bridge then that is false information.

I contacted the company and they said they are working on it. However, they advertise that this is the only app a captain needs.

Quick And Easy

Although I use the standard array of trawler navigation gear, it is comfortable to have this software in my iPad for referencing location, currents encountered and tides. While one is at the helm, it is super easy to do research on running conditions at a glance. Good product, not intended for full navigation purposes though, with deep draft boats. The trusty charts make a very good partnership.

Savvy navvy

I have only had savvynavvy for a couple of weeks but so far it has been very user friendly. It seems to be much easier to use than other apps I have and gives me all the information I need.

Good interface but search and routing ruins it for me

It seems like it has potential but whenever I search for a location to navigate to somewhere it shows me options for “similar” places very far away from me (in Boston). E.g. George’s Island in Greece and Minnesota. Cohasset shows me California and then Cohasset high school.

Also I can’t pin my destination and then just route. I have to select manually my original location and the mark point B.

Done for now, may check it out in a few months.

Great UI, but requires re-login too frequently

And always when out of cell service. This is an annoying and potentially dangerous quirk. There were a few times testing out this free trial that I had to jump to Navionix which I thankfully kept as a backup just because I didn’t have service and I was stuck on a login screen I couldn’t get past.

Great sailing features

savvynavvy has a lot of great sailing features. Haven’t been able to take it out on the water but excited to try its excellent wind forecasting features. I had a small problem with savvynavvy but I reached out to the developers who responded quickly and were able to identify my issue (was related to wind animations and my phone getting warm to the touch).

Used it for trip to Catalina Island

My nav on the boat was malfunctioning and I had a trip the next day to Catalina Island from Newport Beach. I downloaded savvynavvy and used it the next day. It was perfect. Saved me from buying a new nav system. Highly recommend.

Haven’t used.

savvynavvy loaded and I got a chart for our area. However when trying to work through plotting a course it was not intuitive. I have the second highest subscription level but probably will not use much. Tried to find legend for chart symbols to help reference what savvynavvy was showing but haven’t found one yet. I would think that was a basic reference tool for savvynavvy .

Marine navigation made easy

This is my go-to navigation app when on the water. The program is intuitive and well designed. Easy to learn.

Don’t waste your money

If it was truly free it would be worth a look but they won’t let you try it without putting in cc info. I wanted to try it first to see if a particular area was covered by the charts but am not giving them my cc info to find out. Also, there are numerous free apps out there which use NOAA and other free sources to show maps like this, my bet is your just paying for free info with shiny packaging. No thanks.

Savvy navvy great sailors app!

Savvy Navvy is wonderful for plotting a course to sail and once finalized easy to export as a GPX file to import into your chart plotter. Most Chartplotters are capable of utilizing and accepting the universal GPX file format making this app EasyPeasy. Try it and you’ll be convinced

Some nice features but very basic nav info

Based of Navionics this doesn’t compare. Navionics has updating soundings, colored sonar deaths, does have an auto piloting system, very detailed chart info with active captain and many more options. Mainly the only cool thing is the description for each waypoint and the easy of plotting.

Very hopeful...very disappointed!

It “kinda” works on my smartphone when I am on grid. Off-grid it does not work at all. And it never even will open on my ipad, which is why I paid fof the full annual fee. When I CAN get it to work, it is great. No help from staff when I explained my problems—not that they did not want to, they did, but they could not figure anything out. Too new and untested is my estimation.

Not useful at all

2 week free trial should include all features. Used on a local fishing trip and found the charts in the Nassau Sound were not correct due to a sandbar and when trying to select satellite view, unable to use because it’s an upgrade. Tide information is not available for the same reason. I had to use other apps to get the information I needed.

Better and Better

savvynavvy is useful. It has improved from day one. Give feedback and ides and they listen. I’m impressed by the growth from the beginning.

Great plan B

Recently my autopilot stopped tracking - savvy was easy, and saved the weekend. Thanks
Only suggestion - when underway direction of travel suggested should be easily displayed .

👍👍

This is a great app for sailing...and they keep on making it better. They recently added a CTS feature to compensate for tides and currents.
