Clean, simple and elegant: a fantastic modern running app!

The iOS App Store is overflowing with complex “socially integrated” running and fitness apps, many of which are quasi-abandonware and/or are definitely just a mechanism for harvesting and selling user data. It’s so refreshing to see a clean, simple, well-designed running app which ignores all that nonsense and just works well. I’d love to see this include simple “couch to 5K/10K” routines since I’m just getting back into running after a long layoff, but otherwise it’s already fantastic. Kudos to the developers!

Just right 👌

Do you like advertisement loaded spy apps pretending to help people by giving them limited functionality while the good features are hidden behind a ridiculously high subscription model?
Neither do I...

OutRun is refreshingly different!
Functional, clean, easy to use, pay up front, lightweight. Seriously what I want all my apps to be like! Thanks to the developer for being a good guy. Hope this one does very well for you.

Simple and Perfect!

Exactly what I was searching for in a running app: Lightweight and private yet detailed with tons of metrics and feedback
The other running apps I used in the past would be filled with a bunch of communities, social features, and some nonsensical crap that I never really used.
this app gives users the simplest approach to recording a run but does so in a visually appealing way! Privacy is a well needed plus!
Keep up the good work!

Great app. Tracking made simple.

OutRun looks great and I like the idea keeping the information personal. I don’t feel the need to share my activities with everyone I know, nor do I want to be bombarded with ads. This applets me track my ride, and import to Health with none of the extras I don’t need. Well done.

Also... I was having issues and the developer was very quick to respond and resolved it quickly.

Crashes every time

Hate to leave a negative review, as this may be Apple’s fault, not the developer’s, but I could’ve saved a few bucks if I’d known that OutRun crashes silently in the background, every time. iPhone 8 on latest OS, all other apps force-quit except podcast player (Overcast) and this app. Start a podcast, then start a new workout in this app, walk 20 minutes, open phone to check progress. Click on this app... old workout gone, app is back at a fresh new start screen.

I do suspect this is Apple, not the dev, but 4 bucks down the drain irritates me. Was a great idea in theory.

Beautiful app

OutRun is insanely well put together. You’d think you’re using an app developed by Apple. The only thing I would love to see is all time stats and analytics, compiling all my runs and seeing a chart over time if I’ve improved or need improvement, on pace, speed, etc. all time averages etc. other than that so worth the buy, works flawlessly

Inaccurate

I like the UI and very much appreciate this approach to privacy. I wish the results were more accurate however. I took a walk that Google Maps and some city literature say is 3.5 miles. I ran two trail apps: this and one other. This reported the length as over 5 miles. The other said it was about 4 miles. Both are way off. I guess that’s just an inevitable consequence of low resolution GPS sensors in phones. But OutRun was off a lot more than the other.

Fantastic but…

The import from health can be kind of bad. Otherwise it’s a fantastic app, it’s clean & simple and would easily be a 5 if the imports get fixed

App terminates when switching off headphones

It seems like every now and then I will start to record a workout and at the end find OutRun is off did not record any data. (update: it seems to be an issue when using headphones and turning off music, terminates current workout). It would also be nice to have elevation gain and loss spelled out. Timeline only shows an estimate of distance. Looking for an update to change review.

Does what it says it does. Nothing more, nothing less.

As an aspiring app developer this is what I would strive to make my apps be. No pointless social media plugins, no subscription-based nonsense. Just an app that has a small upfront cost but does what it says it will do.

A Minimal and Powerful App

This powerful tool packs in all the features you need for your exercise; route mapping, live pace, apple health sync, etc. All done in a minimal and private experience. Extraordinary deal.

Location?

Why do you need access to my location always vs. while using OutRun ?

*Update* - 5 stars after receiving prompt and satisfactory explanation from developer.

Exactly what I was looking for.

Tim, I came across your app on a reddit thread. Really like the UI and the map tracking. The stats and charts are also a major plus for me. Good job on the whole thing. Keep up the good work.

Like the app but crashes :(

Just lost a 2 hour run. Opened OutRun while it was recording and it disappeared. Going to switch back to my old running app but will revisit this one once it is more stable.

All you need in a running app without all the data poaching!

Love it. Super simple and works as it should. Thanks!

Amazing

I was looking for a privacy-friendly activity tracker, and OutRun is perfect! It’s very clean and elegant. Thank you for this.

just what i needed

if you care about privacy whatsoever get this and forget about all the others

Why does the app keeps refreshing ?

As soon as I change to some other apps in order to change music or check mails, OutRun will reset. It loses all the data. Next thing I know OutRun has stopped recording my miles.

Does not access Apple iOS health data

Despite me going into every menu I can find including Apple‘s iOS health data and enabling all access for OutRun it shows there’s nothing to import and there’s no data in OutRun .

Pretty disappointed in OutRun.

Good!

Good app! But recently it has crashed, lost GPS, malfunctioned. It will be better if the dev can fix it. Thanks

Weight Conversions Are Buggy

Health keeps getting injected with entries of +500lbs (I’m currently 235lbs).

Unusable if health data is going to get screwed up like that, but I love to idea to looking forward to a fix!

Useless!

Stupid app stops tracking when I put the phone in my pocket or blank my screen.
USELESS!!!!!
