Buggy onboarding

I was quite excited about Dex after trying Covve, but I am quite disappointed about all the bugs. A lot of the buttons clicked don’t do anything, including the Google Action button when trying to sign up (I had to do it on desktop) and the import contact that worked once but not twice. That’s a lot in the first five minutes of onboarding…

Broken at every turn

Sadly, Dex didn’t do anything it promised to do, and was too glitchy to use.

I couldn’t sync with LinkedIn either in Dex or the website, in spite of successfully going through the right process and trying for several hours. No contacts loaded. I only have a few hundred to load, so that shouldn’t be a problem.

And when trying to import contacts from my phone, the checkboxes to pick which contacts to import were so glitchy it made the feature unusable. When I would try to uncheck a contact I didn’t want to import, Dex would uncheck a different contact instead! Or the checkboxes just wouldn’t respond at all. It was totally sporadic and maddening. It was impossible to select the right contacts to import.

For the few contacts that I was able to import, the rest of Dex was laggy and glitchy too. The map view wouldn’t load at all, even though a few of my contacts have locations.

And the website loaded the map, but didn’t show all my contacts that have locations on it.

I have the latest updated app and I’m on a fast WiFi connection with a good phone that runs all other apps just fine.

I’m bummed. I was really excited about this product.

Cancelling Service Until Bugs Are Fixed

The plus is that Dex is pretty decent with new people being added in from contacts. The downside is that Dex is so buggy you can’t open anything! Slow to start, significant delays when navigating the Home Screen, slow to load lists… Dex is beyond frustrating! Don’t even try to toggle between the different app features…Until I’m convinced the bugs are fixed, I am canceling my subscription.

Is there any support?

My contacts have a different field name for EMAIL and PHONE so none of those imported. I asked them twice and just sent another request on how to handle it. So not a good import system at all, and no customer support. Be careful when you import or you may get 2 phone numbers out of 2000 and same with emails. There are so many things that are unclear and the online support system is incredibly weak. Such a shame because this actually looked like Dex I was always wanting...

“Needs a lot of work” would be understatement of the year

I was really excited about the idea of Dex so that’s why I signed up. I ended up deleting it last week and removing all of my data i had uploaded because it just did not operate the way I had hoped. Some of the primary problems were that it kept not saving contacts when i created them. For instance, I had a contact set up as “mom“ and saved it and it didn't show up. Not a big deal but still, feels kinda important. Still have a lot of bugs to work out.

Too glitchy right nos

So much promise, but too much failure in execution. I have lots of locations for my contacts - so I was very much looking forward to syncing. Dex couldn’t find duplicates very easily - and then merging often failed. Even navigating the list of contacts doesn’t always work. Maybe someday - but not sure this is worth the time investment for shaky functionality.

Perfect except for the loading and syncing

Update: Sadly, I canceled my subscription. The other reviews were spot on. Until the glitches are fixed, it’s not worth using. And I worked with a rep to go over the glitches, paid for an annual subscription, and tried to stick it out. I loved every feature but until Dex actually works, what’s the point of paying for it?

Original: I bought the annual subscription a couple days ago and I’m already debating if I should have. For $13 a month, it’s my most expensive app and it’s so slow. As I’m typing this, I’m staring at a blank screen on my Mac, waiting for it to load. EVERY update, even an address change, takes a few seconds to save. Syncing across devices takes a few minutes. I deleted a group twice on my iPhone and it keeps reappearing.

I love the features though which is why I’m still giving it 4 stars! Like being able to add all my email accounts to one place, seeing connections between people, having a wide range of activity types, a Home Screen that gives me a high level timeline, clean UI, easy to navigate…it’s perfect in every way. Just wish it would load and sync faster.

Best tool for personal relationships

I’ve looked for a long time for a tool that fits my needs. this app not only has a web app and mobile app for convenience to jot down on the go or when I’m sitting with my computer but Kevin and team are amazing. The team takes feature requests and bugs seriously and are great at communicating out features. Easy to add events and take quick notes, keep track of birthdays and reminders. Definitely recommend.

Perfect lightweight CRM/PRM

This does a great job filling the niche of a lightweight Rolodex/CRM/PRM in your pocket

The biggest gripe I’ve had with CRM applications is this: while they do cover the essentials they then add auxiliary features that are worthless and complicate things

Dex is concise and to the point, allows for light/heavy business use and/or personal use for contact management; hence, the name “this app” for Rolodex. Not over complicated and allows you to make subgroups which is helpful for organization

Hands Down Best in Class

this app is an easy to navigate, beautiful app. Staying in touch with my friends and family and professional contacts has never been easier.

It’s a real timesaver that facilitates contacting each person via their preferred method (phone, text, whatsapp, twitter, email, etc.), at recurring times of my choice, and with notes so I can stay in touch intelligently. Five stars.

So good!

so glad I found this app! I'd been looking for a simple CRM that worked well. I didn't need the traditional corporate sales stuff - pipeline, workflow, etc. I just needed to keep up with my contacts, add quick notes, schedule follow ups, and hopefully have a tie-in to social media. this app does all that, simply, and has a powerful browser extension. All for much less $ than most CRMs out there.

Robust, intuitive, FINALLY!

After 90 frustrating minutes of downloading, signing up for, and deleting contact management apps, I finally came across this one. It’s so refreshing to experience an app that is well thought out, robust and that actually works! My favorite feature is that you can create groups and sub groups of contacts, and import them from virtually anywhere online. Bravo to the team who put Dex together, keep doing the good work!

Best personal CRM

Most CRMs are built for deals, not personal relationships. this app fills my need to stay intentionally connected to the people in my life and that I've worked with. I tried Clay but found it difficult to work with and did not like that it felt like they had tried to copy this app rather than taking their own approach.

My search is over

I’ve spent years looking for a good personal CRM solution and during that time I’ve tried everything. Enterprise CRMs, Spreadheets, writing my own custom software, note taking apps, a ton of startups. I never found a solution that nailed it until I found this app.

To be fair, there’s a lot more to build and make better. There’s no company pages, design could be slicker, extension is buggy at times, etc.. But even in its current state, it’s absolutely better than anything else out there.

Congratulations on finding this. you’re gonna love it

Thank you!!!

I rarely write reviews but Dex is the best thing that has ever happened to my work life.

I field dozens of unique contacts a week and am so grateful to the developers for creating a system that helps me navigate my work life.

5 stars all day

Exactly what I needed!

I’ve used Notion, Airtable, Clay, and pretty much every other tool available for managing my network, and this app is the best!

The interface isn’t overwhelming even with thousands of contacts, I love that it automatically tracks every time I message people on WhatsApp or LinkedIn, and it’s fun to check off all my birthday and Keep In Touch reminders every day.

I tend to use Dex mostly when I’m looking for new work opportunities or introducing friends to each other, but cultivating relationships is a great daily habit in general, and this app makes it super easy and satisfying!

Incredible app!

this app is everything I wanted an more! It made it so easy to keep up with everything. It’s has powerful tools a sales CRM has but without the focus on sales. Managing my network has never been so easy!!!

Finally - PRM that works for me

I love this app! I started using it a month ago and have already fully transitioned to use it for all of my personal relationship management (social, family, and professional). I’ve tried several other apps and systems for managing personal relationships (Cloze, Hubspot, Contactually, google contacts, spreadsheets) and this is the best. I especially appreciate the ability to set cadences for follow up to different people and how easily I was able to import contacts from my phone, LinkedIn, and Facebook. It’s also really easy to merge and de-dupe contacts. I love this app and highly recommend!

A Better Personal CRM

I have tested many solutions, but I think this app has the potential to lead the pack. Kevin does a great job of communicating with users.
