A must have for anyone listening to books on Plex

Prologue is better than audible or the plex app by far. The embedded chapters and bookmark features work really well. I’m disappointed with Audible on how very few books have titled chapters. With Prologue, however, I can take actually title my own books. Before finding Prologue, I always had doubts on whether my friends and family could easily use Plex for audiobooks. You had to know where to click on an audiobook to actually resume it. And for audiobooks with multiple files? Forget ever trying to resume your spot In an audiobook if you even thought about playing other media. I could live with all of those shortcomings, but I’ve always had the thought in the back of my mind that some of my family and friends would do better sticking with Audible. All those pain points are no longer a thing, and I can recommend using audiobooks with Plex now, thanks to Prologue.

Also, the developer has been super responsive. I can tell that continuous improvement is important to him, and this gives me confidence in Prologue. Can’t say the same about Plex’s support for audiobooks (don’t get me wrong, I love Plex for movies and tv shows).

Fantastic Application!

I started a book club with some family members just as a way to keep in touch with one another as we are separated in different countries and states here in the US. At first we were doing only physical books and ebooks but we started incorporating audiobooks for convenience. Since I’ve always had a Plex library the first thing that came to mind was to add the audiobooks to my library for all of us to listen too and have access.

this app has been a phenomenal find! It syncs perfectly with my Plex library and even allows each person to choose their Plex profile! I’ve had literally zero issues as I’ve used this application. The developer is also amazing and super quick to respond to feedback.

Cannot recommend enough!

Great augmentation for Plex. Best in class design. Needs Bookmarks.

Beautiful design. Does what it says. Does it well. Great augmentation for Plex.

For context: I am moving over from the Bound App (and several other prior). I listen to a dozen or two audiobooks each year on top of hundreds of hours of podcasts in Overcast.

The only glaring absence Prologue is bookmarks: if I fall asleep listening to an audiobook, bookmarks are a huge help in finding the point I last recall.

If it could pull sleep data from Apple Health to automatically mark where I likely fell asleep I’d find some way to give Prologue six stars.

Voice Boost EQ feature produces some audio clipping on well-mastered books, but is helpful for lesser sources. I understand good voice boost algorithms are a major undertaking in audio processing, so I’m still glad a simple EQ fix is offered.

It’d be great if time skipping buttons were smart enough to increase the skipping interval with repeated taps to allow faster search (like Overcast). Still, I’m aware of no other audiobook app with this feature, so it’s not a relative shortcoming.

Five stars for this app, because grade inflation is real, and Prologue deserves notice. Insta-buy for me, and I plan to throw in a tip with each book I finish.

Phenomenal app!

I never bother to write reviews for apps generally unless they’re awful. This is the literal opposite of that.
Prologue is the perfect plex based audiobook experience. Between time left in book actually being listed to consider me listening at faster than 1x speed, a full history of when I listened and to where (I listen to books when nodding off in bed and sometimes lose track of my place if metadata isn’t top notch.)
I also love being able to download the books I’m listening to as well. All in all, awesome experience anyone that doesn’t give this 5/5 has no brain.

Hands down the best

Plex lacks a polished interface for audiobooks. this app fills that gap. It can read embedded metadata and it keeps track of your progress in a book. You can assign books to collections in Plex and this app has a dedicated Collections tab where it beautifully displays your books organized by the collection. I have only one complaint. Currently when you open this app it defaults to the Home tab. I would like the ability to change that in settings. It would be nice to be able to choose which tab (Home, Books, or Collections) opened by default.

Way better than Books

As an Apple fan boy, I was always a fan of the iBooks app for my audiobooks. I own the files, and had no problem syncing until the recent iOS and macOS updates made that sort of difficult. The final straw was when my American and British versions of Harry Potter got mashed together and there was no way to fix the issue with the new OS issues. Cue this app.

As someone that uses Plex already, this app was a very easy transition and it has more functionality and customization. Highly recommended for anyone who already has the files for their audiobooks.

Works great with Plex

I moved all my audiobooks to my Plex server and needed an audiobook player that would worked with Plex and would let me download content to my phone for when I’m out of service. After a lot of research I tried Prologue and loved it. The download of content for offline listening requires the paid version.

Only downside is that the apple family is not supported, so if my kids want the offline ability I would have to purchase Prologue for each of them as well.

I no longer have to use itunes to put audiobooks on my iphone!

Excellence executed beautifully

Prologue is very nicely done. It’s among my favorite apps to use. I’m usually listening to audiobooks more often than anything else. Managing them through iTunes has been my go to forever, and it was annoying that my Plex server handled audiobooks so poorly. this app solves that pain point just like Overcast and Apollo solve the podcasts and reddit pain points.

The developer has and continues to do a really good job trying to make Prologue feel as native and intuitive to use as possible. The whole app and UX is beautifully executed. I really enjoy using Prologue .

Hands down, 100x better than using audibles app

Loving Prologue because I now have a way to use my audiobook content. I’m using it nearly daily, my wife uses it often and now we’re sharing with family that can’t see/read books (old age and declining vision).

Any chance you can introduce the ability to select which plex profile/user that is streaming books? It’s occasionally a problem when my wife is reading a book and I want to read the same. One of us will cause the book to resume at the others place.

Might be my favorite app ever

For some reason, for lots of reasons, I really adore Prologue. It works well. I’ve never had a problem with it. I love how it keep the history of starts and stops. The bookmark feature is great. What little annoyances I find here and there, none of which I can remember now, are overshadowed by how easy and clean and well functioning Prologue is.

Last week I took some other new Plex audiobook app for a spin… I can’t remember the name… Blue icon… but I could never get it to function or play a book. Coming back to this app felt so good

What listening to audiobooks in Plex is meant to be!

I decided to give Prologue a try based on comments I saw on Reddit. It is amazing! It works exactly the way I like to manage and listen to my audiobooks stored in Plex. It recognizes my metadata better than the Plex app. Also, when I’m in my car, I can skip back and forward in my books by 15 seconds in this app, whereas Plex goes to the beginning or end of the entire book. Thanks for such a great app and a great experience. I gladly paid for the full upgrade.

Great for large libraries

Works wonderfully for audiobook libraries. Apple seems to have abandoned this space and confines its Books app to a computer’s boot drive. This means you have to keep your library small. this app solves this issue. Would pay a subscription or large fee if it could stream audio and audiobooks to my Apple Watch. Side loading would work, too. Audible kind of side loads, but it’s not reliable. Audible does not stream or offer direct downloads. Apple will stream and offer direct downloads, but what about the hundreds of books I have outside the closed universes of Apple and Audible?

Perfect 95% of the time

It does what you need it to do most of the time. Honestly, it was perfect for me until I started using some of the premium features. Sometimes, for downloaded books, one track in the book won't play at all. I just got through a book with over 100 tracks inside and only 2 of them refused to play, so it's not very common. Also, I cannot for the life of me figure out how to make collections for books. It's not a huge deal, but it's an advertised premium feature, so I was looking forward to using it to organize my collection.

Best audiobook app for iOS

I have used most of the audiobook apps available for iOS, and this is the best by far. The interface is beautiful and customizable, and it shows off the books beautifully. The development team is constantly working on new features and improvements, and I just couldn’t be happier. The only down side is that Plex takes a little bit of know how to set up, so not every user can take advantage of this great app, but I just love it.

Must have audiobook app for Plex

this app solves the problem of audiobook management with Plex. Prologue works flawlessly, never had an issue with audio connecting to my older car’s usb, no stutter or audio artifacts. Works even better than audible and also tracks progress back to Plex so you can pick up where you left off on other devices. Truly one of my more favorite apps and a must have if you use Plex for audiobooks. (And you should now!)

No-brainer for Plex users

So happy someone has made the effort to create feature rich Plex clients. Thank you!

I’ve been using this app for about a month and it’s been great. Has all the bells and whistles and I haven’t come across a single bug or hiccup. And best of all it’s easy to use with easy access to sleep timers, volume boost, bookmarking and Plex library switching. Switching between my audiobooks and podcasts is seem less and keeps my place

Worth every penny in my book ;-)

Essential Audiobook Companion for Plex

Before I stumbled onto this app I was trying to overcome Plex’s issue with large audiobook files without success. Small .mp3 files played fine but just about any .m4b file longer than 20 hours would refuse to start unless I spent 5 minutes or more to sync (download) it to my iPad. this app works properly with large .m4b files and also has an improved look and feel over the Plex app. Highly recommended!

Fantastic!

Set up your audiobook library the way they tell you to and it works perfectly! Any trouble I’ve had has always been a Plex issue, not a this app issue. Today Plex mismatched a book title. I fixed the mismatch in Plex and this app updated without losing my place in the book!
I would like to see this app backup 15seconds upon spotty Bluetooth interruption pauses like it does for notification interruptions but I don’t know if that’s possible to implement.

Great audiobook app

I really love Prologue for listening to my audiobooks. I love that I can add books to a reading list so I can choose what I want to listen to from a smaller list instead of getting lost in my full collection. Also, adding books in a series to my reading list makes it easy to start the next book when I finish one. If you keep your audiobooks in Plex, Prologue is amazing.

By

Amazing App

Prologue is perfect. I use Plex Media Server to consolidate all of my audiobooks from different vendors into a single library and Prologue does the rest as far as tracking reading progress/completions and syncing to the device. I happily paid the $4.99 and highly encourage it if you want an excellent app for managing an audiobook library. Plex really ought to buy it from the developer and integrate it into the Plex app.

The best audio book app out there.

I used iSub for a long time and was always frustrated with the performance and the UI. Then one day I stumbled across this app. What a difference. It even has Apple CarPlay support (which is where I listen to most of my books - an hour commute each direction every day).

To the developer - thanks for making such a great app. Keep up the most excellent work!

What everyone has been waiting for

For years, our cries to Plex for better audiobook support has fallen on deaf ears. Finally one brilliant developer has taken it upon themself to create an app that we have been begging for. The developer is super responsive to feedback and has a beautiful road map of features to be added. Will continue to financially support this project since it’s free to use.

Great alternative for real control of your audiobooks

I have a ton of audiobooks I have bought over the years, however loading them on my phone was always a pain. Prologue let me load them on my own Plex server and have access to them when I travel without any funny business with iTunes or trying to store them in a cloud service.

Great app! I wish I knew about it sooner.

I stumbled upon Prologue on Reddit last week and just configured my Plex library for audiobooks over the weekend. Prologue works great and has most of the features I would want. My only request would be for a Way to see how much time is remaining in the book Based on time left in the current track and the upcoming tracks.

Indispensable.

I like my collections to be detailed and organized- that goes double for my audiobooks. I obsess about metadata. this app is the missing link in taking control of my audiobook experience. It’s responsive, has all the features you’d expect from a premium audiobook app, and the UI is elegant. If you care about managing your audiobook library, get this app immediately.

The best 3rd party Plex app!

OMG! I wish I could give this way more than 5 stars! This basically opens a whole new world to Plex users! I never leave reviews for apps(bad habit), but when I saw how much effort was not only put into its functionality, but its presentation also, I could not resist. This is just so amazing, I am truly blown away. Imma go back to listening to my book now!

The only way to do Audiobooks on Plex.

I have a huge audiobook collection I’ve purchased over the years. Dealing with iTunes or a number of other apps was always a frustrating experience. But no longer with this app. Now I just load my Audiobooks into Plex (using an Audible agent somebody wrote) and there’s literally no other hassle. A++!

Great app

I had been looking for an app like this for years. It’s some great work. Worth getting the full version, just so you can download the books to save your data. I do have a suggestion on a feature. Allow bookmarking, so we can come back to that spot again if desired. Keep up the good work!!

Best app for audiobooks

I don’t do many app reviews, but I got Prologue for my audiobook collection on Plex. Plex doesn’t do well with playing audiobooks. Even the Plex amp app isn’t that great, it is mostly geared towards music.

this app has everything I need. Excellent in tracking your play even when switching between books. With the premium version you can download the audiobooks so you can listen offline which is a feature well worth the price.

Lots of other features on Prologue I’m not mentioning.

Bottom line..if you have an audiobook library on a server or computer this app is best app to play the audiobooks.

Got Plex and audiobooks? Look no further!

Have a plex server for all my personal media server needs but it doesn’t handle audiobooks well at all. this app steps in and makes it work like a dream. Track where you left off across multiple titles, sleep timer, playback speed, the list goes on.
