Hevy App is good. Except, during use, at the end of my workout, I realized that there was no option to save & update routine if you changed an exercise mid workout. You should have an option that saves values and a separate option that saves values and updates exercise routine. With a busy schedule, I don’t have time to go through and do this with a work around. Also, another annoying thing, is there is no ‘Next’ button to automatically move cursor to succeeding input box when inserting values while working out. You have to manually touch the areas you want to edit. Minor on the surface, but over time, the ‘Next’ button saves me time! Which, if you want to compete, saving customer’s time, is the way to compete in today’s world. Until you fix these issues, you get 1 ⭐️ from me. Add these features and I’ll change my review accordingly.

When I started working out. I use to not log any of my workouts, then as I was getting frustrated with my progress one of my gym brethren told me I need to be logging all my workouts and trying to get better everyday. That’s when I found… the notes app. It was a grueling process and it became a jumble of numbers and abbreviations that only me and me alone could read. I knew I needed a change, that’s when I found… a bunch of useless apps that made me pay 25$ a month just to put in more than one workout routine. Then finally I found Hevy. After opening the app for the first time I knew I found a winner. I could have up to 3 routines which was perfect for the program I was running. Then I found out that it tracks my progress and my stats for me (which brought me more joy than my pump that day). It had rest timers, barbell calculations, as many reps and sets as you could want, super sets, drop sets, basically everything. The only reason it isn’t a 5 star is because I need to pay 80 dollars for the full version. It would be a 5 star for me if they even brought the price down to $35. Other than the paywall this has been an amazing app.

I have been jumping around using different apps for the last 5 years since I started doing workouts in my late 40’s. As a busy business professional with a family, my goal is to keep myself healthy and hope to live a longer quality life. Hevy has a great simple UI and available at various Apple devices including Apple Watch complications. It is better than other alternatives and definitely a plus. Yet it is not that far ahead. I expect others could easily catch up or even run ahead.
As many fitness YouTubers started to emphasize, the key in fitness is about reducing frictions to actually do the workouts. Since I don’t have any impressive figures or stats, the social sharing features are more or less a blah and sometimes a distraction to spending time on workouts or other better things in life. I could see how some people would really enjoy that.
So it hasn’t drawn me enough to upgrade to Pro. I found myself usually pay for apps that are lean toward helping me to get the main things done faster, easier and more consistent. What would take me across the line is having Apple shortcuts and api integration. So I could automate with Things3, Streaks, Apple HomeKit, and NFC tags and increase my chances of actually do the workout and use the app.
I’m looking forward to become a paid customer when these integration becomes available.
