POWER WATCHDOG Bluetooth ONLY Reviews

We have a Watchdog PWD50-EPO. Like the other reviewers have stated, the FREE app doesn’t work right. The developers haven’t addressed the common issues within POWERWATCHDOGBluetoothONLY for 2years, regardless of the continuous complaints. So I did some research and realized they don’t have to fix POWERWATCHDOGBluetoothONLY because NOW the company makes an RV WHISPER MONITOR STATION that will do everything the free app is supposed to. But that’s going to cost us ANOTHER $269- $219 bucks!!!!! Cross selling at its finest!
However, our watchdog product is amazing and has worked excellent. I highly recommend purchasing one to every RV owner I know. It’s just too bad that they make you have to purchase another product so that we can get the information feedback from the product.

Doesn’t log. Should be able to show high/lows recorded over time.
Wake up and check what happened at night or while you were gone.
Would gladly leave behind an iPad or old phone to act as brains

Should allow you to do a setup.

Start with base config (everything possible off)
The label what you’re turning on and have it record the draw of all your equipment

Get alerts if you are too close to you cap to say run the microwave.

Device could easily discern afterwards based on your draw what is on (big stuff, heat, microwave, a/c)

Should ask what caused a shutdown or drew too much current so you can see a history of your devices.

Would be nice to once a quarter turn in the big devices and have it tell you if you a/c is suddenly drawing more amperage than usual.

Plug it in and the hardware works as advertised. Even the software via Bluetooth is fine when it isn’t spontaneously disconnecting disconcertingly and annoyingly if you have an audible alert on. More annoying is there is no indication why it is saying it has disconnected. The menu can also benefit from a History submenu so one can track potential power source problems. In short Hardware gets 4 Stars, Software gets 2.

POWERWATCHDOGBluetoothONLY offers very basic information about the status of the surge protector. We’ve been testing it on our first trip with our new RV and it has cut the power twice on us for going over current. I don’t know how accurate the meter is on the EPO itself, but that is a separate review :) POWERWATCHDOGBluetoothONLY made it very easy to check why the power cut off and to turn it back on right from my phone. Never needed to go outside of the RV!

Knocking some stars because when I had notifications turned on it was incredibly noisy, pinging my phone every few minutes that it disconnected. I don’t know what that alert meant: that my phone disconnected from the EPO, or that the EPO power had disconnected? Either way, power never appeared to be disrupted in the RV so I assumed it was an app issue. POWERWATCHDOGBluetoothONLY has no option to configure notifications (no options to configure anything, really), so my only choice was to disable all notifications completely from iOS. This meant I had no notifications when the power cut off and had to figure out what happened on my own. Would be nice to configure some settings like what notifications I want to see and adjust some thresholds for power off.

I really want to love this device but I have only had it for a week and am already having issues. The fact that as soon as you a few feet away, it sends you a notification that it is disconnected. The first time I received this, I freaked out thinking that the system had shut down. Now I know better. Secondly, in the past few days the wattage and amps have been showing higher than what I’m actually using as if I have the devices in when they are off. Example, I use a space heater and occasionally I turn it off during the daylight hours. The Watchdog will still show the space heater being used although it is powered off. This also happens when I use my microwave as well. I have attempted to “reset” the device through POWERWATCHDOGBluetoothONLY to no avail. I usually have to wait about 10 minutes before I am able to actually reset POWERWATCHDOGBluetoothONLY . I do not want to turn the device(s) back on so that POWERWATCHDOGBluetoothONLY won’t think I have went over my apps and turn everything off. I would love to know what is the fix for this issue.

Product great - for me being away from the RV so much, I need POWERWATCHDOGBluetoothONLY to notify me when I’m not home. Power failures happen all different times not just conveniently when your home to get notified.

Please please please extended the range of being able to notified and communicate with the device.

Also if someone steals the device while I’m not home at work, I have no recourse.

It really needs some sort of history. Currently it just kicks off when it senses over current or low voltage, but it would be really helpful to look at a graph and see what was happening at that time. Was it a spike? What were the values? We don’t know if it kicked off because of a slight difference or a huge potentially damaging event. POWERWATCHDOGBluetoothONLY is monitoring everything in real time so there is no reason it can’t record values as well.

Like the unit but cannot get alerts when you are a distance away. That would be nice. I thought this device did that. They have good customer service and any issues they are accommodating. I do recommend this device. I also purchased the security lock as well.

This thing has saved me over a dozen times from random surges out of no where to this ice storm we’re in now with the power dropping randomly to checking on my generator power and making me feel confident in knowing it’s putting out the right voltage.
I just wish it had a history option and you could look back on it

Edit- when is a update coming ?

I looked at the apps for both 30 amp and 50 amp and found that the 50 amp is lacking the ability to set the amp alert level, where the 30 amp has that capability. This would be handy if you had to use a 30 amp service. Otherwise, I am still checking it out.

Update 1: I found that I had no problem connecting POWERWATCHDOGBluetoothONLY to my IPhone 7, but my IPad Air was a totally different story. After several tries, I had no success with my IPad.

I've had the 50 Amp non-EPO and now the 50 Amp EPO app and the EPO app is lacking the ability to monitor Amps like the non-EPO can for some reason. Also, the biggest annoyance (for me) is the "Disconnected" notification which simply means you are out of bluetooth range. My camper is stored within 30 feet of my house so I get this alert VERY often. As a matter of fact, it depends on where in my house I am. Yes, you can go into your iPhone Notifications and turn Notifications off for the Watchdog App but that turns ALL notifications off. I'd like to know if there is an anomaly. Having the ability to pick and choose which alerts you want to receive would be HIGHLY appreciated. Other than that, POWERWATCHDOGBluetoothONLY does what it's supposed to do. Seeing the current amp draw and voltage is a strongpoint. Just wish it could be more "adaptable" to individual needs. Watchdog itself (my prior one AND this one) work PERFECTLY BTW. None better!

First time out of the box at a new park Bulldog detected missing ground at electrical post connect in the park. Notified park and switched locations in park and all was well. Worked perfectly. Only thing that bugs me is when I’m 30’ away or so from my RV it keeps sending the disconnected warning until I’m inside 30’. Kind of irritating Bluetooth connection warning. It’s working fine, but loosing the Bluetooth connection to my phone is all.

Have the 50 amp version. Love your product. I am always bragging about it to people and showing them POWERWATCHDOGBluetoothONLY . Awesome for diagnosing problems in the rig and knowing which devices are on which electrical leg and how much energy they draw. This helps me know how to manage the electricity on those rare times I have to connect to 110 socket.
My one big complaint is the bulldog logo is too bright in campsites. And there are times I don’t like it drawing everyone’s attention to it. Wish POWERWATCHDOGBluetoothONLY would allow you to turn it off or at least dim it down.

The surge protector is a huge comfort to have for my 5th wheel. I would recommend every camper have one. The only thing I would change is POWERWATCHDOGBluetoothONLY . I’d like to see more features. Like what kind of notifications I receive on my phone. Or if I’m away from my camper and it stopped a surge, it would notify me when I return about why it powered off and for how long (Aside from seeing the clock on the microwave flashing or food in my fridge going bad).

I am constantly monitoring my voltage to make sure i turn off certain appliances in my RV like my A/C, whenever my RV Park Voltage drops under 120 volts. I think a great update to POWERWATCHDOGBluetoothONLY would be to be able to set different limits that would notify you whenever voltage, wattage, etc drops a certain level that you would choose in the settings. I think this would be helpful for users especially in RV parks that fluctuate a lot in electricity so we can keep our sensitive appliances safer. Other than that. In my opinion this product is amazing and i am very happy with my purchase. Have bought 2 brands to compare. Ended up keeping this one.

I love this device, but only like POWERWATCHDOGBluetoothONLY . I rest well knowing the Watchguard is protecting my new class A Motorhome, and I like being able to monitor the amps and volts. I get the lost connection error anytime I walk away from the device too far, adding a simple total of amps in POWERWATCHDOGBluetoothONLY would be handy as I constantly have to add the numbers. A lot more insights like graphs would be handy helping to identify power issues as well. I had one unit go bad after a couple months but they sent out a replacement no questions asked which was excellent service. A little more thought put into enhancing POWERWATCHDOGBluetoothONLY would make this a five star device for sure.

Understand that POWERWATCHDOGBluetoothONLY will probably never get an update, sure would be nice to have logging and some other option that previous posts indicate. But other than that, this has save me $$$, I didn’t have 1 I and lost washer dryer, dishwasher and a few other cheap pieces. About $2500 total, because of a open neutral on a 220 site.
Worth every penny.
We did purchase the Hardwire model and that helped with range.

Has already saved my brand new trailer. Works exactly as advertised. The only drawback is the disconnect of the Bluetooth gives an annoying notification every time you walk out of the range of the device. I need my notifications on but I need to be able to disable that one notification from Bluetooth disconnect. Please update.

This is a great addition to my RV. Saved me more then I know. I had two hot water heater boards fry from low voltage issues. Installed for a year now and no more issues. There have been just a handful of times that it tripped because of low voltage at different places at peak times. You just open POWERWATCHDOGBluetoothONLY and hit restart. It’s that simple. POWERWATCHDOGBluetoothONLY is also great as you can monitor and check how much voltage and amps are present. Gives you a great ideas of how many amps your devices use.

It has been two years since you guys have updated anything. Would like too more options pertaining to power usage in POWERWATCHDOGBluetoothONLY . For example, showing a length of time the usage is building such as hour day week months etc.
