I Love It, But It Needs Some Work...

this app is fascinating, because you get to see other people’s roleplays, but what if you post a starter and want to edit it later? And what if you wanted to delete a starter if you think you’ve posted too many? At least you get to read them, but I would love it if you were able to edit or delete some starters later on. It’s also pretty crafty—now I’m able to create a Doctor Who roleplay and I don’t need to copyright! I love how people get to see what they have in common with people all around the world. this app is amazing, with meeting others through roleplaying and growing your imagination, but we should be able to edit our starters or delete them if we want. I think it would be a marvelous idea, and it would help those people out there who think that they need to work on writing starters. Oh, and another idea could be to have a system where you could save your starter and post it later, or post it but only people you choose get to roleplay with you on it. Just some thoughts.

YOU GUYS NEED TO FIX THIS

I have been trying to be on this app the past few days and all i see is a white screen that is loading but it’s not doing anything like I tried to go on messages it didn’t load anything I tried to go on my own profile it says I have no stories when I clearly have a lot of them and it says I have no followers when the last time I checked I do and it says I don’t follow anyone but I do..CLEARLY that’s not the point, but you guys need to fix this! And apparently y’all don’t reply back to all the other people who does a review on Rook but please change this bug/problem you guys don’t need to respond to this but please at least fix this problem I deleted Rook multiple times and it still did nothing and never fixed my problem..like I said y’all don’t need to reply but just please fix this for me and fellow people who is having problems with the same issue my account is Yourlocalaccident-madi! Please help! Please and thank you for reading my issue

Great! But missing some features.

Hey so this is a great concept! But I have some tips :)

-Upload your own profile picture. I understand that you probably want to keep nsfw pics, but if we were able to upload our own and have them approved if that’s the case, that would be cool! Maybe even have it submitted for people to choose from the defaults?

-Write your own stories by yourself. Maybe include a feature to create whole stories yourself without roleplaying with someone else? It would be cool!

-Title the stories! On the stories page, it just shows the starters to begin with. At first I thought it was just a list of starters, but when you click it it’s a story.

-Mark your story as complete or incomplete. Spectating roleplays is cool, but it would be cooler to choose to view ones that are in progress or ones that are complete- if in progress maybe follow the story to read as it is updated, every now and then getting notifications that there is more to read.

-Group roleplays. It would be cool to see a roleplay of maybe 3-4 people, like a group chat but for roleplay. It would be more in depth and have more characters.

-Rate complete stories. While there is a top page, having a list of stories by rating of different time periods (like best of all time, best today, best this week, best this month etc) would be cool!

So yeah, I think those would be cool! If more features are added, it will get 5 stars from me :)

Good job making this cool app!!

One of a Kind

I’ve had Rook for over two years, I watched it grow and flourish, (and all of its “trends”), even though it’s annoying, they capitalized on it being a one of a kind app. They added the this app Royal membership which removes all apps and allows other features for $2.99 a month. I personally don’t have it, but it’s a great thing to capitalize on. But my biggest complaint is that they should make it required to use “#” on which platform the people which to role play on. Such as: #discord, #this app, #snap, and #kik

Which would allow you to immediately tell which platform the person writing the starter would like to role play on. Personally, I think this should be their next big update.

It’s pretty good, however..

this app is a nice app to express yourself and write. Though here’s some issues I have with it.

- Profiles pictures.
You can’t change it. All you can do is pick ones selected by Rook itself and they aren’t really that good. Especially since people are known to have an “aesthetic” so it’s not aesthetically pleasing unless you buy the accessibility to get your own profile picture. No one wants to spend money on that.

- Crashes.

Sometimes when I try to post a starter, it glitches out and closes me out of Rook . It does this for at least half an hour and there’s no way that I’ve discovered that I can fix it. Not too sure if other users experience this.

- Offensive spamming.

I really just ignore these, but other people are without a doubt bothered by it. People spam starters that are about homophobia, racism, etc and no matter how much it’s reported, nothing is done about it.

- Can’t send photos.

This I really don’t have too much of an issue with due to the fact that a lot of people would probably use this feature for inappropriate means. However sometimes people like to describe their character through a photo of them rather than a description. I suggest blurring out the photo unless the person clicks on it though for safety reasons. Kind of like how Instagram works.

As I said, this app is a good app but there’s some flaws that I suggest should be fixed or at least acknowledged.

It’s good, though I have a few things to say

There is a bug that when you try to look something up on the search bar it almost always crashes. It also can crash a random. The notification can also glitch and not send a notification, or delete itself when you haven’t touched it. As well as text will light up even if it was your own message and not the other person’s newly sent message. Those are my only problems.

The next thing I’ll say is just suggesting that don’t count as problems. I’d suggest adding two sections in the chat part. One is with active chats and the other with chats that the other person left and the user left. They can delete from there, it can make sure people don’t delete the wrong people and get rid of the get lost in the main chat section.

It’s a good idea but it needs a lot of work

There are a lot of bugs on Rook that needs fixing, like a lot. Half the time it doesn’t let you post your idea or doesn’t notify you if someone had replied to it. The block button dose not work whatsoever and if you report someone because what they’re posting is bad and harmful they face no repercussions.
There are also a lot of people who only post spam which can be really annoying especially when you’re trying to find a good rp.
I think you should be able to have different categories for different rp plots or be able to search for specific thing, like if you wanted to find a fantasy rp with someone who’s literate. Idk, just some thoughts.
There are some things that I genuinely like about this app even if it’s not that much. I like that there aren’t that many adds, and I like that you can add #s about what your starter/plot is about

Rook needs to listen more

I have been using this app since possibly day one and I been in love with its ever since. I met tons of people and had amazing roleplays with them but recently there’s been problems with my account, I was unable to see my feed or chats at all. When it happened the first time I just assumed that I was banned so I made a new one and everything was fine but yesterday it happened again! I haven’t posted all day and when I did it was harmless and I couldn’t see my chats again! I still get notifications from that account and I can log in with no problem but I still can’t see my chats at the very least. I emailed the this app team at least 6 times about this and I have not received an answer yet. this app really been going downhill with this issue and sadly I may just delete Rook if this problem continues on. If you care about your roleplay chats best move them to whatever app you use to save the headache.

Profile Pictures

Okay so Rook itself is really cool and I feel like it could definitely be my main source for finding roleplays. My only problem is the lack of freedom with our profile picture selection UNLESS we pay 5.99 a month, while it isn’t a lot of money it’s still a waste on something so simple like changing our profile pictures to what we want specifically. You could easily charge us for anything else like being able to tell if someone reads our replies or being able to design our chat rooms and chat bubbles to how we like. Not to change our pfps to what we want that’s ridiculous. I’ll continuing using Rook because it’s really fun but until the profile picture thing is handled I won’t be changing from two stars anytime soon.

Great app but...

this app is a great roleplaying app, always easy to find a rp partner. Its filled with interesring plots and starters, many good features like hashtags, followers, voice messages but only thing that its misssing is a feature to choose if youre online, offline or slow replies, just like in other social apps. It would appear on profile pictures as icons and it would be much more easy to tell if people are offline or just replying slowly. Users improvised and came up with a way, writing it in their bios but its not as comfy and good to do. If the developers will add that feature, it’ll be a perfect roleplaying app, also some bugs fixed and performance issues fixed and it’ll be just amazing.

By

Convenient

It has a lot of potential, I like it because it’s easy to use and convenient.
Like most roleplaying apps or sites you have to sift through a bunch of stuff before you find something that is actually up your alley. There’s something for everyone here but I will say it seems like most people who use this app are not too literate and their writing style is a little immature. You see a lot of cliche plots and characters but tbh you see that on most roleplaying places these days.
I will say that I prefer advertising for a roleplay on this app and then taking it to discord. Roleplaying in Rook feels very disorganized and I don’t like that it defaults to let anyone read the roleplay; it’s kind of weird.

WHY DIDN’T YOU WARN US SOONER?

I couldn’t access my original account yesterday with my phone number so I had to create a new account with my email. TODAY I received a message saying Facebook no longer offers sms (phone/text message) so I would need to sign in again with my email. WHAT KIND OF “NOTIFICATION” IS THAT? While other apps notify their members a week or a few days in advance of the change so their members can properly adjust, this app NOTIFIES YOU HOURS AFTER THE CHANGE HAPPENS...y’know...the time when THERE’S NOTHING YOU CAN DO TO PREPARE YOURSELF. That “notification” did nothing to help the situation. I still can’t access my original account and I’m still disappointed with the way the update was thrown at us. I now have a new account with 0 stories and all I see are people posting about how they suddenly can’t access their original accounts and begging their former rp partners to find them. Rook becoming a disaster.

It’s good, But...

Okay, the idea of this is great and it’s not a bad format. But at the moment, it’s starting to turn into another Geeking. A roleplay app that is filled with underage and pedophiles asking for NSFW roleplays. You need to get this to stop before it gets out of hand. People can report them and block them but, these people make posts quite often. It’s gonna be a problem.

Also, it’d be nice to have a filter feature for the tags so you can find roleplays with certain tags.

Adding your own profile picture would be nice too, as most of them are either pictures you’d find on Google or someone’s art who I doubt have given permission to be used on Rook.

By

Uploading your own profile pictures

I really do you like Rook, I’ve been starting to use it instead of Discord and after geeking sad demise. Though everything from the format to the where you can write starters it’s very easy to use and nice to me, I have one complaint. Not being able to upload your own profile pictures. I understand that you probably want to cut back on people posting not safe for work but there’s other ways you can do that, and everyone not having to share the same hundred or so profile pictures is nice, and adds a bit of individuality to everyone.

By

Great!! But lots of horndogs...

So I downloaded Rook because I like to roleplay, but I quickly realized that there are a lot of people that want to erp or drp (erotic/dirty role playing). Maybe you could make a separate section of Rook specifically for erp/drp? That would definitely solve some problems. Also, I would like to be able to send images of my face claims, but there is not a feature for that yet. Maybe in the future we could make wikis for our OCs and send them to each other, like they do in Amino? I think that would help significantly!

By

People are being too harsh.

Okay, so. In all, it’s a great app. Most people that are rating it badly are complaining about not getting to send pictures and pedophiles “running freely”. Honestly, think about it in a realistic way. Pictures could be a very bad feature though many would like it, people who don’t mean well could send stuff that most wouldn’t want to see. And on the topic of pedophiles “running free”, Rook is free and 17+? Of course it doesn’t mean they’re okay but there is a report and block option. People should stop being so harsh on this app. It’s a great platform. Thanks for reading.

By

Great Start, but Needs Work

My number one request would be to let users upload their own images for their profile pictures and to within chats be able to share pictures and videos without having to pay. My other critique is that Rook often crashes on me or won’t let me post what I’ve written even though it is well within the guidelines and not over the character limit. Other than these issues, it is a great place to meet all kinds of people for those who are interested in the role play writing community.

By

Pretty good!

It’s a pretty good app (as the title says) but as I’m scrolling through the starters, all I ever see is “Looking for dom boy” or “Kinky smut” or whatever. It’s not really.. refreshing, to say the least. When I roleplay, I’d rather there be an actual storyline and not just sex.

Also, I really, really want group roleplays. Like maybe you could set chat limits (3-6 people?) and then have your own roleplay. That way it doesn’t have to be awkward and you don’t have to roleplay side characters - if you’re doing a canon roleplay - and it would be a great way to make friends.

Other than that, Rook isn’t bad!

By

Great concept, terrible app

Okay. So I’m going to start by saying the core functionality of Rook is a good model. I like the concept of what Rook is supposed to do: connect you with other roleplayers based on their starters.

Here’s what I don’t like:
Blocking doesn’t work.
Reporting does nothing.
Signing out means you can’t sign back in.
Rook crashes constantly.
No way to send images.
No “add friend” system.
Starters don’t always post.

It feels like the dev threw Rook together sloppily and then just abandoned it. “Set it and forget it”. That’s not how this works.

FIX. YOUR. APP.

Oh, and did I mention how STUPID the premium subscription is?? Seriously. Why pay $4 a month or whatever it is for a PROFILE PICTURE. Come on, guys. It’s not rocket science. Fix your app. Moderate it properly. And add more to the premium if you wanna stick to that model. Maybe that’s how people can be allowed to add friends and send pictures to each other. Maybe they get access to new fonts and or layouts. Either take the paid subscription out or make it actually worth something.

It’s ok-

Hi so like I said Rook is ok. It’s just full of dirty bad people. But you just need to stay away from that. Usually I only use this app to promote my Rps on other apps but I made many new friends on this app. this app was good at the beginning but now won’t work. I think I’ve been banned I’m not sure. I didn’t do anything it just happened so could you like fix that please I also think it would be cool if you maybe created separate areas. Dirty posts and clean posts. Just because sometimes I need to scroll all the way to the bottom to find a roleplay I’m interested in instead of random dirty things people just need to say.

By

Not bad at all.

this app is pretty new—so it’s understandable that it might not include every useful feature that other roleplaying apps have had. However, with what it gives you, it gets the job done.

To begin with, not having moderators breathing down your neck 24/7 is truly refreshing, coming from somebody that’s been roleplaying for around five years. All other roleplaying apps that I’ve tried have ended with me deleting them due to the frustration of having my starters deleted over and over for absolutely ridiculous reasons. this app is the first of which that I haven’t had this problem with.

The interface is very minimalist, which isn’t a problem for me. You simply post your starter and wait, or scroll through other people’s. Pretty easy.

One suggestion I have is this: rather than automatically publishing a roleplay as a story and giving the authors the option to unpublish it, keep it unpublished at first and give them the option to publish it. It would be easier for people like me, who would rather not have their roleplays automatically published.

Amazing but needs Improvement

💜 growing points.🖤
My post don’t show up when I make them and they most certainly do not get out because I never get reply’s to this post. No one can see them and neither can I. Only every other time the post actually makes it out and people see it and begin replying.
It’s frustrated me to the point where I’ve lost many post and I’ve deleted Rook multiple times
💚highlights !💛
but I always
Re-download it sooner or later because I love it. So clearly something is being done right if it keep my intrest. But I quickly give up on Rook when it doesn’t work as it should. So please fix this minor bug and detail so that I may enjoy Rook better.

❤️Suggestions🧡
Also a cool feature to add would be live public story’s. When they’re being typed and written you can see it. And I feel you should be able to see when your partner is typing so that you don’t have to anticipate their every message. Sometimes it’s confusing on whether they gave up on the story or are just taking their time typing. Please do something about this.

By

Nearly perfect!

Easy to understand and learn, lots of open people ready to chat and roleplay, and even some options to help define yourself and interests in the profile.
But, everyone is restricted to single chats only rather then group chats/rp. Also, you cannot use outside images for your profile or bring images in to translate what a character, scene, or object looks like. If they could change that, then it would be perfect.

By

It’s Alright...

In general, I’d say Rook is pretty good if you like roleplaying cuz you can roleplay about anything on here.

However, the only huge complaint that kind of drove me out of Rook is that most of the roleplays I found are all NSFW and I could barely find any SFW roleplays on here...

It would be nice if there was like some sort of filter that separates NSFW and SFW content so that it’s easier for some people like me to find non-sexual rps and also so that the people who like smut rps can continue to enjoy their type of rp without having to worry about having more restrictions on what kind of stuff they’re allowed to do in their rp.

By

Roleplay

As I have ventured out into a plethora of RP cites and apps, I see this with the most potential. As I was also a user of Geek Chat/ Geeking, I enjoyed the little hangout spot until it ran rapid with corrupt mods and underage kids along with pedos. I want to stress this out, if you want this to be a good app; you have to stop all those problems from stemming. Nip it before it can truly spread and become uncontrollable. I am a fan of RP and I would love to see this become big. I’m rooting for y’all! Ps, please add a feature where I can add my own profile picture.

By

Awesome!!!

Rook is wonderful. It works with voiceover and is accessible which makes me happy and proud to be a user of Rook. I was just wondering if there could be a feature implemented so we can end stories or am I just not finding it. And a way to chat privately with your friends without having to create a starter. Thank you so much for making a great app and keep up the great work.

By

Love it, but...

I love Rook, but I do think that it needs some work.

I very much dislike the fact that the roleplays you do, become a published story for everyone to see. I think that needs to be taken out, or Rook needs to ask you first if you’d like to publish it as a story before deciding to do it on its own.
And if someone else you’re roleplaying with would like to publish their rp with you, there should be a button they press that says publish, but it sends you a notification asking if you’d be okay with it first.

That’s the only problem I truly have with Rook.

Actually, scratch that. I also don’t like that you can’t customize your own profile picture. But that’s not as big of a deal as the first thing I said.

The published story (your rp) needs to be taken care of ASAP!

By

This used to be cool.

At first Rook was really great, however, as it got more popular lots of horndogs showed up and made this app have a ton more restrictions. That’s fair. It really is! But! Any unclean or bluntly put mature mannered plots are not allowed now no matter how literate or evasive you are about it upon posting. Yet, on the flip side, people can post stuff about wanting nudes, a gf/bf, or someone to eff with absolutely no problem whatsoever. Also the ‘moderators’ are straight up rude as heck and post utter bull; even bashing fellow rpers just for fun. In conclusion, you’re better off with another app—especially if what you’re desiring to rp about isn’t entirely clean.

By

Okay for simple role play

If you’re 14 or into really basic train of thought roleplay this is perfect for you. I tried it out and surfed the ads for a week to see if there was any variety and found none. It’s either a kid genuinely looking for creative writing practice or a horny illiterate shmuck. ***Parents be advised to teach your kids about internet/app safety before just letting them loose, stop blaming your lack of communication with your kid on what’s appropriate or not on the developer(s).

Amazing app but..

I’d rate Rook five stars because its over all a great app I use every day! But there’s a lot of bugs for me, If I go to the search bar or go to someones story and I tap on someones profile it instantly crashes it happens every time, not just every once in a while, can you please fix this bug? Thank you
