Try Dry is the easy to use, free app that each year helps thousands of people to
drink more healthily. Try Dry is the only app brought to you by the official
charity of Dry January, Alcohol Change UK. Whether you’re taking on Dry
January or cutting down longer-term the app is your year...
In a lot of ways, this is my favorite app to track my “alcohol free days.” It’s wonderfully simple and minimalist, in a way that a lot of other sobriety and habit tracker apps are not. But ultimately, the bugs became too much to overlook. If you accidentally tap “stayed dry,” there’s no way to update it to add your drinks. It LOOKS like the option is there, but nothing happens when you tap it. It was annoying, but I could live with it. The one thing I couldn’t live with, and that led to me deleting the app: it signed me out constantly, and getting back in was a pain, because the app couldn’t correctly access my keychain. A task that should have taken me 2 seconds (logging sober days) routinely took much longer as I had to go hunt down my secure password, copy/paste, type in my email address, etc. There are other apps that do what this one does without the headaches.
Great, wish had US units
I downloaded this app about a year ago & it has been tremendously helpful in my recognition of my alcohol consumption. Other apps track days but this app calculating my alcohol units has been tremendously helpful in my path towards potentially quitting. I’m only giving it 4 stars because the only units are UK units, and maybe that is the only thing that exists, but UK units are 330 mL when a traditional US beer is 12 ounces or 355 mL. Just coming from someone who is obsessively tracking from an Excel and to know my month by month total is off by about 50 units from a year total. So offering US units and also one decimal point would probably help those obsessives when it comes to figures. Otherwise a tremendously helpful app!
Love the idea of this app
I’ve been using Try Dry for a month. The theory is great but in practice the app needs some work. First, it keeps freezing, like, it won’t even open. The only way to get around that is to delete app and reinstall it. And even then it forgets the most recent entries. Tried to update my goal and drinking habits and same thing happened. Also I don’t think the US calculations works. Pretty sure drinks cost more than the app allows and even so the calculations are off. I did stay dry all month thanks to the calendar (when it worked) so I’m grateful for that but I’ll be looking for a different app to continue my journey. Thanks for getting me started though.
Good app with a Major problem.
I like this app, it helps me keep track of the days I don’t drink. Unfortunately, it logs you out and you cannot get back in. This has happened to me twice in the first few months I’ve used it. First it tells you your password is wrong when it’s not. So you have to go through a reset process. Than it forces you to use a password chosen for you, but still denies you access with a message that it’s unable to find your reset token??? The company is quick to respond to emails, but they can’t seem to permanently fix the problem. How can you be in the App creation business and not mastered the log in process? It baffles the mind!
Simple and Motivating!
This is a straightforward app that is easy to use and very motivating. I have been using it for two years and in that time all the original bugs have been resolved. I love earning my sea of yellow teacups when I’m taking a break from alcohol! And the new feature of grey “drank as planned “ teacups are useful to keep me on track when I’m moderating. Best part is that the developers are very responsive and helpful.
I’ve been using the app for a year and mostly it works great. However, it has been very buggy lately. It keeps logging me out and crashing. It’s enough to make me wanna drink! Fix it and I’ll give it five stars. Update: So I got an email but no way to contact the developer, but lots of info on how to fix it like updating the app which I had done. It seems to be going again. Lastly, I can not see my review in the app store.
Like it but goals don’t work
I love the money and calories saved and love seeing my streaks on the calendar. Overall really enjoy this app. I’ve used it off and on for about a year and the goals have never worked. Example: I set my first goal for 3 days and, I’m On a day 5 streak and still the goal isn’t showing as met. This happens consistently no matter how many goals I set (and meet). I’d really like to see those rewards.
Awesome for tracking your drinking habits!
I downloaded this app to help me along with my first Dry January and have continued to use it throughout the year to get even better data on my habits. There’ve been some bugs here and there but I wouldn’t call them dealbreakers. Overall, the app is a great tool to help you stay on track, despite a few bugs. Highly recommend!
Frustrating app to use
I love the idea of tracking and being rewarded with badges and fun lil progress bars, but the app randomly will tell me I have been sober less days than marked in my calendar and that is SO FRUSTRATING. The app also deletes my streaks and creates new ones randomly. I have updated the app, force closed it, but honestly it’s just super buggy.
Current version won’t open at all on my iPhone X (multiple restarts don’t help) and just downloaded to iPad and won’t let me log in (says I’m not logged in, to try again). Agree w/others that it had been a bit glitchy sometimes but I still liked it and certainly like that you’re expanding your reach, for lack of a better way to say it, but let’s not lose the core product along the way! It’s a useful tool. I’m coming up on a year and like seeing the days add up.
I have been using this since last May. Since the upgrades, it won’t always open for several days. I have tried rebooting my IPhone which worked once, but currently I am locked out. Thank you. Everything seems to be working fine. I’m enjoying the app !
Use it daily
Very useful and important. Clear way to avoid unhealthy drinking patterns. When you click dry day you get a mini celebration and somehow psychologically it is surprisingly rewarding. Simple function. Free. Sometimes you have to reenter password.
Good but buggy
I’ve noticed the app will occasionally freeze or not open. When it works it’s wonderful!
Love the app but sometimes it won’t open
There are lots of bugs. Sometimes I have to delete it and reinstall. I love the app but how can it remind me at 9 at night to log but when I try to open it, it’s frozen?
Easy to use - great motivation
Let’s do this! I like this app to help keep track of my success as I cut back drinking, even better that I can see how much money I am saving.
