Colitis and me

I have to get to the bottom of my flare ups. Even if I’m eating healthy, something I could be eating or drinking is causing something to happen. Bowelle helps me log everything in easily. You can customize it to your needs. I need to know the difference with and without medication. So I added medication as a feature to keep track of. Very simple to use. And allowing me to use my keyboard to its extent like using emoji’s in my text, really helps to see my progress. As I was using emojis on a regular calendar before Bowelle.

I’ve tried journals and calendars .. but having an app at your fingers .. especially since I take my phone with me when I go.. has helped me log absolutely everything. And I can also go back months if I need to to edit or add.

I’m giving it 4 starts because after entering your bowel movement, if you don’t add a “Tag” initially (Bowelle has a feature to tag a specific note you would like attached like “discomfort” or “urgency”) you can’t edit it later to add one. So you have to delete it and add your bowel again. Kind of annoying for someone who is not feeling great.

Can’t edit incorrect BM?? YES you can!

UPDATED:
Click the calendar in the upper left to adjust which date you are on. This allows you to add past records. Also from the main page a tip popped up that if you click on the number of bowel movements you can then edit them there, this includes editing the time. I wish this had been a little more straightforward before but I super appreciate the developer reaching out. I’ve already switched apps but this might be worth switching back to. Also changing from 1 star review to 5 star. Thanks for helping!

OLD REVIEW:
Maybe I’m missing something obvious but I have yet to figure out how to edit or delete a recorded bowel movement. Seems like a pretty basic tool to incorporate into a data recording app. I did like how easy it was to enter, the layout and little images made it kind of fun even. But I was entering data from the past few days and unfortunately you can’t specify the date. Plus you only get one chance to pick the time. Once the data is in there, I can’t change it, or even delete it! And since I made several attempts to figure out what I was doing and try to learn Bowelle I now have many many inaccurate bowel movements recorded. I have to clear everything and start over so I might as well find an app that works better for my needs anyway.

Great app

I love how pretty Bowelle is it makes me want to track my BMs when
Normally I have a really hard time being consistent with tracking. I think tracking your bowel movements along with water consumption and other variables really can help you to become more understanding of how different things affect your symptoms.
I just have never been able to do it before it now. this app makes it really easy because you just do one tap and add the consistency and the amount or number of your bowel movements. Even documents the time of day that you had your bowel movement. You can also easily add things to a different day if you forgot to document something on that day.
I’m using the free version and I think that it offers plenty of options for people to benefit from Bowelle without paying for the paid version

Not just an IBS tracker (gastroparesis)

I have severe and complicated gastroparesis which is quickly getting worse. Using Bowelle, especially the features where I’m able to add additional things to track like how nauseated I was, how often I got sick, and of course bowel movements because constipation is a symptom of gastroparesis, has been extremely helpful with keeping my team of doctors up to date on what’s happening with my symptoms so that we make informed decisions about next steps, also depending on my health and heart (meaning change in medicines or placement of a PEG-JET tube). Thank you so much for creating Bowelle, and for making the possibility to add other things to track free. That’s rare on apps these days. Thank you!!!

Just what I needed

I was looking for a free app in an attempt to find out what was bothering my digestive system.I got a quick diagnosis of possible IBS, though I only had a negative CT scan and never heard anything else.I have been religiously tracking everything it asks for and it’s so easy because there’s nothing to look up, I don’t have to worry about calories or points, and I can either use a picture or write down what I eat. I’m still not sure what I have, but since I’ve started tracking, I am much more aware of what I’m eating, and I generally feel better. My symptoms have subsided a bit. And there’s also a premium version which I will definitely use if I need to get reports to a doctor at some point

Functional and Fun

Bowelle is pretty cool. Not only does it let you track your bathroom patterns , but there are tons of other cool features well. I love the fact you can document your sleep patterns , meals, stress levels and more. You can even add pictures and times of your meals. There are customizable tags and categories you can add as well. It’s all neatly summarized on the “History” tab. It’s fun, functional and easy to use. Let’s face it , if any of us are here …it’s because we’re going through something that’s not too enjoyable . But Bowelle makes it a little more pleasant to keep track of those things. After getting the hang of it , I decided to pay the yearly fee because I can see it being something I use every day. 5 stars!

New Here!

I’m new to this app so I will update my review once I’ve used longer.. I went in search of an app for IBS that would allow me to track feelings, bathroom breaks, and food- so far, Bowelle is perfect! It’s streamlined for easy use and I have the option to store an additional field of my choosing. I like the dashboard view that quickly shows what all you can enter and I love that I can track symptoms with foods to find a correlation. Would definitely recommend to anyone who needs to start seeing a pattern with GI issues.
My only note to the developers: the “tags” div is overflowing off the screen. The default amount fit nicely, but I love the feature to add additional.. the only problem is those additional aren’t fitting on the screen so I can’t read them.
If that were to be fixed, Bowelle would be exactly what I need!!

So easy, customizable and thorough!

Never had an app that lets you customize not only the field of data but also how it’s recorded — whether it’s by a range (that you set up) or simply by adding a personal note with a time stamp too! So easy to navigate and (yes) the paid version allows you so much more options but for the low annual price it’s so worth it to have one place that you can record your food and water intake, bowel activity, environmental conditions like stress level, work and sleep (although it’s not a sleep app but it can be linked to one) as well as overall mood and whatever else you want to make note of. I also added fields to include headache, OTC meds and recording potential non-FODMAP trigger foods. It does also link to Apple’s health app and many more. You’ll use it!

Good for alternative uses

I have been looking for a good food tracker app for a long time. I don’t suffer from IBS but I do have fibromyalgia and Hashimotos and have flare ups of body pain, fatigue mostly, with the occasional stomach issues (usually heartburn). Every other food diary I’ve found is geared toward weight loss and it’s so annoying. I want to track how I feel, not calories.

I knew Bowelle was geared toward IBS so I wasn’t sure it would be perfect for me. But since the paid version allows you to add your own custom categories it’s been great. I’m currently tracking energy levels, heart burn, pain levels, and medications on top of the standard categories it comes with.

Its easy to use and convenient, and I’m hopeful I’ll stick with it much more consistently than any other food diary I’ve tried

Helpful & easy to use

I have been using Bowelle for several years now. With a long history of IBS and irregular gut issues, I wanted to track bowel events and note patterns.
Bowelle allows you to track bowel events, write notes, track food, mood, and stress. Doing all this can reveal correlations that can reduce symptoms. Making changes can then be correlated to reveal success. So using Bowelle allows for experiments to see results.
On the other hand, you can choose to track only what you wish.
The owner is very amenable to feedback. I wasn’t able to record the events in real time and requested a way to record after the fact. The owner created a method to do that. I’ve been meaning to write a positive review ever since. Finally! Grateful for this very easy-to-use app that is so valuable to me!

Cancer Patient and This App Has Helped

After a stem cell transplant, chemotherapy, and depression it has been hard to remember everything. Its hard to remember to write things down especially if I dont have my planner on me and Bowelle takes care of that. Almost wish there was a separate section for notes, blood pressure, and heart rate. As far as i have seen so far the only note part is in the food category; but after this review I will mess around more and see what more the application has to offer for me and others. With that said, being able to write my own details of my IBS descriptions helps a TON when I go to look back. On that note I wish there was also a small note section in the stress section to describe my feelings to help me when at the doctors. Thanks this app for so far a seemingly flawless and helpful application, I can’t imagine how many lives you have helped other than mine. Thank You.

Great for tracking how often you go

I have tried a lot of digestion apps and this is the only one I am still using after 450+ days. My Gastroenterologist was very impress to see over a year of tracking. It helped him see the current treatment with the low FODMAP diet alone is working better than when we tried to treat it with just medication. So glad Bowelle is available. And for the record I would pay for it if it started charging. One of the features I love is the ability to customer what you want to track and add in custom symptoms. I have mad sugar cravings. So I track that. I have various digestive discomforts all of which I can track. It’s very helpful also to set the alert, mine goes off at 9pm to ask if you forgot to make an update today. I frequently forget during a busy day but I usually make an entry when the alert pops up. There are some improvements I would suggest, like the ability to delete symptoms I added which I no longer track. But all in all this is a simple and easy to use app for tracking bowel frequency and context. Great app. Highly recommend. Love that it’s free but I would pay for it to keep it if that ever changed. I give my best to the developer and thank him for this tracking tool. It has helped me so much to manage IBS symptoms.

Fantastic tracker!

As someone who has tracked my movements via notebook for many years, I must say Bowelle is a life changer. Most people always have their phones with them, whereas it isn’t always feasible to have your notebook out in a public restroom immediately post accident. this app makes it easy and fast to get the movement down no matter where you are so you’re certain not to forget. The icon is also very discreet on the phone, whereas some trackers I had tried literally had a poo emoji. Some people may appreciate that lighthearted fun, but I definitely prefer the more discreet this app icon, myself. The only thing I wish it included was a voiding option to track urine output, but overall I am extremely pleased and recommend this app to everyone I know, including my children. Even if you have no bowel issues it’s good to track how often, how much and any issues you may be having!

Life saver

I was finally diagnosed with Crohn’s after more than a decade trying to fix my symptoms with just diet alone. Part of my struggle with the diagnosis has been paying attention to my symptoms, and knowing how to answer my doctors questions. Bowelle has made me so much more self aware of my body, and the reports are a great tool to bring to my doctor with my EXACT symptoms I’ve been experiencing. My doctor and I can go over the report together to see what has been happening over the last month, start identifying trigger foods, notice patterns in my flares… all of it. I paid to upgrade and added additional categories for tracking my medication, sleep, exercise habits, and energy levels. Now EVERYTHING I need to remember is in one place and I’m not just getting overwhelmed and forgetting everything the second I walk into the doctor’s office. Seriously, a really great tool for anyone dealing with any IBD symptoms.

Best tracker

I have been searching and searching for an app to track my symptoms of IBS as well as other symptoms. I swear I have tried at least ten. They either restrict the amount of symptoms you can track before you have to pay, or they are confusing and not user friendly. this app is the most amazing thing I have found. Not only does it help me accurately and precisely track my IBS symptoms, but I can customize it to track other things as well. The layout of Bowelle is beautiful and the ease of use is fantastic. It’s so simple to use, it doesn’t even feel like I’m tracking anything. With other apps I would get so bogged down by how annoying it was to track, that I would forget to do it. The reports and history that you can view have been very helpful in identifying triggers for my symptoms and useful for my doctors diagnosis as well. I recommend this app 10/10 over and over for anyone. Even if you don’t have IBS, it will be the best tracker you can find, I promise.

Versatile and Thorough

I have searched 17 other apps for a tracker that helped me track my moods, water intake, exercise, gut health, everything. The first time I used this app I ended up deleted all my other ones, and purchased a year subscription. I’ve never purchased anything related to apps or in an app. I paid $12 for the year and have ended up using Bowelle 6+ times per day, which is highly unlike me considering my screen time is less than an hour a day typically. It has given me in depth knowledge and customizable fields that are specific to my needs. I’m currently using it to help me track my moods and gut Health, as well as seeing the effect of foods on my mood. I’m working on tackling a lot of problems in my life holistically and this is giving me an incredible accurate view of everything and it has been the perfect place to start. Thank you all developers, finally an app that I’ve actually found useful and would actually recommend to others. Thank you.

First time I found an app I would design myself

Not everything is perfect but this is pretty close. I’m planning on purchasing a pro membership so I can customize further. 1) customizations is a great feature and being able to add certain topics and various ways of measurement. If anything I wish there was more ways to customize further. For example when adding a topic being able to have it measured as a range and also add notes to it. 2) it’s easy to use. 3) it’s coming from the perspective of mood and how you’re feeling and not weight loss - in fact if you’re looking for a calorie tracker this isn’t for you but if you’re looking to track you’re ultimate health and how your body and mind may react to certain foods then yes this! 4) the graph that it creates for you is super helpful! 5) you can add time stamps fast and easy! This is a wonderful health journal and I am planning on seeing if I can find anything else similar but so far this is by far the best I’ve come across.

20 years Old in Chronic Pain and trying to get to the bottom of it.

I am a 20 year old Woman that has diagnosed Polycystic Ovary Syndrome, Hypothyroidism, and Hidradenitis Suppurativa. I also have suspected endometriosis and do not get my laparoscopic until March. Turns i have a positive ANA so i most likely have some sort of auto immune disease as well . this app is an app i found when looking for a food tracker that does not count calories and is very straight forward because i knew i needed to figure out my food triggers and fix my diet for my conditions and possible auto immune disease without getting too focused on the calories of everything in the process. This is that for me. I record what i eat everyday as a digital food diary for when i finally am able to see a gastroenterologist. I record my BMS (what it is meant for , IBS) helps track my water intake and i added an additional item to record my chronic pain and where i hurt and its severity everyday. This is an easy way for me to keep track and stay in tune with my body and what its telling me. Thank you for making Bowelle.

Simple, feature-rich time saver

Everything about your health is related to the gut, and the gut microbiota. You don’t have to be suffering from a diagnosed gut illness to benefit from keeping a record of your meals, snacks, beverages, mood, stress level, medications, supplements, and bowel movements—their frequency, consistency, quantity, discomfort, and other characteristics.

Before discovering this app I was going to journal all this information from a Pages template every day, but that’s a lot of typing! this app saves so much time, and organizes everything the way you want. You can add things to track like exercise, alcohol, caffeine, or anything you can imagine. You can view the history, see it as a graph, and create reports.

Response to customer service requests or feedback is fast and personal. The paid version is well worth the small subscription price if you want to track more than the basic version does. I am very happy with Bowelle; studying my record has already given me insights into how I can improve my gut health, and so improve my general health. I will be able to share the information with my doctor in a clear and organized way. Thanks, this app developers! Bravo!

Seamless and functional

I rarely leave reviews, but Bowelle deserves it. The interface is simple, beautiful, and user friendly. I downloaded it to experiment and see if I liked it, and got to the end and thought "wow this is nice but I really need something I can add custom tags to". BOOM. There were custom tags/options that are customizable enough to be useful, but not overly complicated. I ended up paying the ~$12 for the year of the full version because I was that impressed. I've been using it for a couple days and continue to be impressed. It is so simple, but for those of us who are trying to manage IBS (and/or food allergies and reactions, in my case) this is amazing!!!
