Corporate Lies?

I don’t want to be a “conspiracy theorist,” but as someone who cares both about quality food and corporate transparency, I noticed a pattern recently in the reviews of Tock. I was debating downloading because the “most helpful” reviews are all quite negative, but I wanted to read both sides of the story. If you sort reviews by “most favorable,” you’ll notice a flood of positive reviews on December 6, and then no others more recent than a YEAR ago. There are only 4 5-star reviews that aren’t from December 6! I’m concerned that this app is doing something in an effort to inflate their (poor) app ratings. This makes me feel like I cannot trust the company, so I will not be using this app going forward. I wanted to write a review just so anyone else concerned about corporations’ attempts to manipulate us can hopefully see this app for what it is.

Thanksgiving dinner order

I used Tock to order pre-order for Thanksgiving dinner pickup from a restaurant that was specifically listed in their Thanksgiving dinner section. I was allowed to place the order and even received an email confirmation. However on Thanksgiving day when I arrived at the restaurant, it was closed! I was definitely charged for the order that I did not receive. I even received an email the following day thanking me for order. Perhaps the people in charge of facilitating payment should also be in charge of making sure the restaurants listed are actually open! I emailed this app to file a complaint and received a courtesy note basically saying they are only responsible for providing the technology! Given that there are so many other apps for this service, I would avoid this one!

Restaurants beware

Restaurants have a hard time already with Covid and now this piece of useless application comes along and I hope the restaurants survive. It doesn’t list all of the restaurants. When you look at the map, there are restaurants that use Tok that are missing. When you try to order something, it just doesn’t work.
I had to cancel many orders as I can’t seem to get it to work. Often I have to reserve a time to look at the menu. It is not user friendly and Imigine most restaurants don’t even know the number of customers they are losing because this real piece of junk if an application. Absolutely a terrible application to order food from. Somebody really need to tell the restaurants how impossible this application is.

What’s the point?

All this app seems to do is tell me everything I might be interested in is sold out for today. I cannot seem to search for a combination of place, date, and time, and searching for a place locks me into just looking at that place for today with no way back to the calendar. I can search for more places, but I’m stuck. I have to quit/kill Tock and log in again.

There also seems to be a “back door” into this app reservations. I went from “nothing available” for one restaurant to “sold out” for the entire month when the reservations were opened. I understand popularity, but… really? 100% sold out in less than 5 seconds? That’s gotta be some OTHER automated service feeding this app, which makes this app a useless middleman.

Don’t bother. Worthless app

App does not update reservation availability in real time. French Laundry opens availability at 10AM a few months before. App took until 10:05 AM to refresh with availability. Both me and my wife trying to get reservations on Tock at same time. By 10:05 when the calendar finally showed the months available all of our 3 dates were sold out. Then some other “chase pay” option appeared and when selected said “someone else has selected that”. Frustrating, not updated in real time and completed worthless for getting reservations at hard to get in restaurants. Really sours the entire experience and makes me think less of French laundry for choosing this platform. They should remove Tock until it can update itself up to the second.

Tock ruined my marriage

Yes. That happened. Let’s see, it all began last Wednesday. My wife and I had been going through a rough patch, but nothing out of the ordinary. I decided to surprise her with a dinner reservation to one of the nicest restaurants in Chicago (Maggianos). However, when we got there, not only was there no reservation, the restaurant location had been replaced with a Potbelly. My wife was furious and I was humiliated. She said this was “classic Marc” and that she needed some time. Well, I found out yesterday that she is divorcing me. Anyway, that’s probably not all on this app. But when I went to review it, I saw many new 5 star reviews. That is concerning. As an actuary, accurate data is very important to me. This cannot stand….

Taking my reservation with my aunt elsewhere

My aunt’s in town this weekend so I decided to find a reservation somewhere for Saturday night. Went to download a few reservation apps (this, Resy, Opentable…) to see what I could find.

Instead of a quality restaurant choice, what I found in downloading the this app app was a clear conspiracy to rate an otherwise awful app with quality reviews. Tock doesn’t let me cancel reservations. I can live with that. What I can’t live with is using an app that doesn’t allow candid and real-world ratings and instead allows for bizarre influxes of five-star reviews that all take place on a day that doesn’t even correlate with a software update.

Derek out.

An exercise in extreme frustration

God forbid you use different emails because you will encounter so much difficulty you’ll want to throw your phone against the wall.

Logging in with a Facebook account that uses a different email than you typically book with locks you in to that email. You’ll never be able to change it or see previous reservations.

Attempting to cancel a reservation only results in an error saying “Bad Request: Purchase is owned by a different patron” even if clicking on a link directly from the email reservation. Horrible user experience and a massive waste of time. Figure it out, guys.

Great selection, app frustrating to use

I really like the selection of restaurants available. However, I have chosen to use other apps instead or have ordered directly with the restaurant because of the difficulty navigating. As other users have mentioned, clicking to look at the menu for one and then trying to return brings you back to the start. Each click feels like starting the search all over again. Tock can be very slow even on the latest iPhone. The list of restaurants has grown both in numbers and variety and with a few simple improvements I think would make Tock significantly more useful.

The BEST app for foodies and casual diners alike

In my experience with all of the other platforms (Opentable, Resy, Yelp, etc), this app has gone the extra mile to provide the best experience for its users. While the map feature isn’t yet perfect, the caliber of restaurants on Tock goes to show for the level of a well thought-out UX.

At the very least, I know that any reservation I make on this app will make for an excellent meal.

Bad App for Gift Card Redemption

I was given a this app gift card for Christmas, but Tock does not provide a good search method to easily find where it can be redeemed. There is no search filter to isolate businesses that accept this app gift cards. This would be helpful because gift cards can only be redeemed digitally at select business participants, which are unfortunately few in my area. It is annoying to shift through a list of reservations where a gift card cannot be used because the businesses are not “Participating this app Customers”. I would not recommend this app gift cards as gifts.

What is going on

Let me start by saying this: I’m a foodie. Having an app that places amazing restaurants at my fingertips is super important to me. This week I went to read reviews to see if there were better options than Open table and I noticed something suspicious. this app had notably middling reviews until this Monday. I don’t want to assume the worst from a company seeking to provide a valuable service to people like me, but this can’t be just by chance. Why would a flurry of positive reviews come in on Monday? A notoriously slow day for the restaurant industry! I smell something fishy…

terrible - utterly useless

I placed a delivery order on this app via the Chase platform because of an opportunity to earn more points on my card.

I placed an order on this app for an 8pm delivery from a restautant that's then delivered by Doordash...so what does this app even do? So far as I can tell they're useless middlemen who charge unnecessary fees, provide no order updates, no real time tracking, and there's no way to contact this app customer support and I can't contact Doordash either

...so all I can do is continue to call the restautant back who then have to call the delivery guy so they can tell me he's still on his way and apologize for the delay.

It's 8:45pm at the time of writing (for an 8pm delivery) and I have zero clue where my food is and no way of getting this app's help.

First world problems, I know, but pretty unbelievable a service this bad is in operation in 2021.

Wil never use again, 10/10 do NOT recommend.

Makes my life so easy

I have always loved being able to make a rezzie with a few clicks, but ever since this app began to offer delivery & takeout, it has beeen a game-changer for me — especially during Covid. If you're looking to find a selection of really good restaurants, this is where to start. I always discover something new & unique.

Like but needs a lot of improvement

I like Tock idea and what it offers, especially when looking for prix-fixe or kits during corona, but becomes annoying when going back to search results and starts all the way at the beginning of the page. The more I use, the greater my annoyance gets. Also would be nice to add more filter/sort results & more photos rather than having to cross-reference Yelp.

Tock app has been showing blank page

this app app quality has been going down hill recently. When you try to open Tock to make reservations for restaurant, it loads nothing but a white screen then crashed.

I gave up booking any restaurant who is using this app because of this. Cannot load anything and we had to reboot Tock multiple time just to get it to load.

What is this trash????

I’m being forced to book a reservation on this service. Web UI does NOT work. So I think I’ll download Tock . Tock is just a link to the website. It says it’s holding my reservation, but it’s playing games with my head. There is a clock ticking down at the top of the screen fueling my anxiety. Tick this app mf. Book your reservation. Hurry.

But the caveat? There is NO BUTTON TO FINISH.

I can’t fathom why one of the nicest restaurants in my city would funnel their clientele through this horror show. If they are paying this app, this is outright fraud.

By

Works … if you know what you’re looking for

Using the search function returns no results in my area, in the list or on the map. But if I know the restaurant I’m looking for and search specifically for it, the reservation system works well. Hopefully the restaurants aren’t paying too much for this service considering they’re not getting any digital traffic from it.

New updates made UX annoying!

this app is supposedly used to book high end and Michelin restaurants. But you can't search for a restaurant simply by name to see their availability anymore since the search query is confined by date and time. The restaurants only show up if you pick the date and time that they have availability. That's annoying and counterintuitive. Please revert to the old UX.

By

Yikes, no Apple Pay!!!

Why would an app developer make it difficult to use by not having Apple Pay? So you want to store my payment information? No, I don’t think so. I don’t want that, and you don’t want that liability. Get with the times and add Apple Pay.

Other than that, Tock is pretty good. For not having Apple Pay and then ASKING TO STORE CREDIT CARD DATA I would normally give zero stars, but Tock would be 5 stars if they could figure out payments.

Great app but missing a few things

Tock is great but it does not update in real time which makes it hard to lock down hard to get reservations. Also it would be great to be able to create a “wish list” of restaurants in my account. Thanks!

By

More features

Tock has a clean interface and flows nicely. However, it would be nice to be able to add the reservation into my calendar as well as share the reservation with others

By

Who designed this stupid app

Like everyone is saying, if you want to order limited quantity of take out from popular restaurant with a weekly release time, then forget it. Tock is so stupid, it doesn’t update real time availability. Also when searching the restaurant in the search bar for take out, only reservation come up. Not user friendly at all!!!!!!!

By

Needs work

Should be able to share with others and add to your calendar like you can with Open Table. Also, I couldn’t update my profile with good allergy and note special occasion- but finally figured it out. Feels too basic and lacks many features found in Open Table. Hope this app Managemt reads these and puts in necessary fixes.

By

Not a good experience yet

Need to add better functionality for browsing restaurants (eg bookmark feature and fixing the bug where search results reset to the top when navigating back from restraint profiles). Also would be cool to have a feature for setting up alerts when restaurants of interest have new availability.

By

Does not refresh

Since Tock can be used to get coveted reservation it has a major glitch. The glitch being that you have to exit and search for the restaurant again. Also Tock shows availability and then no matter what it says that someone else has selected or. Very frustrating experience.

By

Finally it's here!

One of my favorite apps to book the most amazing restaurants! Great work

By

Takes too long to sync

When reservations open at a specific time Tock has a significant lag time before becoming available. For coveted restaurant reservations, seconds matter and you will lose out every time.

By

Useless

Too many bugs. Reservation avails are not in sync when you search and click a restaurant vs. when you click the restaurant thru homepage. Even clicks out to different pages when you hit the same button.

By

Too glitchy

Intermittently won’t load or refresh which makes it even more difficult to get those hard-to-get reservations that sell out in a minute or two.

By

Best booking app

this app is the best-considered booking experience and it’s not even close.

By

Underwhelmed

Tock doesn’t integrate with any of my calendars, bad. No mapping, bad. It keeps telling me it is going to send me an email to confirm my email account, it hasn’t, bad.

Obviously Tock is built for the restauranteur not the diner. Worthless.

Essential

Need a lot more features for prime time.

Biased towards SF and inexplicably San Jose in Bay Area

I can't find anything because it only looks for specific cities. There are less than a million people in SF and 8x that in the Bay Area. This doesn't work for me at all.
