Great App

Very good for learning the correct stroke order of hiragana. Only thing is that just like in schools that teach English, some of the characters like さ and き are different when written on paper. Example is in English, we wrote out a differently on paper then it looks on text. So while learning hiragana, remember to learn the written way, or Kyokasho way first before learning the one that is on HiraganaQuest which is called Mincho.

great overall!

personally i love HiraganaQuest, but there is something im disappointed about. it really helps me learn a lot since i’d like to learn Japanese, but it only teaches you the first 7 characters. and i know some people can pay for it, but i don’t have the money to. it’s a great app but it just teaches you 7 characters until you have to pay for the rest. im pretty sure it would be worth it to buy the rest though, i just can’t afford it which is unfortunate it’s not free but i see why.

Great way to remember hiragana

Hiragana Quest’s system of creating stories in your head and then practicing the stokes is a effective method to memorize the titular Japanese alphabet.

If I would improve it, I would have set times/reminders to practice hiragana and recall past characters during the game as spaced repetition is important for remembering words.

Great app

Great system of learning Japanese.

If I were to make a suggestion: have a version of HiraganaQuest to have all of the letters available for both hiragana and katakana. Players can select all or certain number of hiragana and katakana to memorize and practice. Have a measuring system that leads into a goal they have.

Makes you think

Definitely makes you think and want to retake a test even after you get 100% to help memorize the characters

Best way to learn hiragana and katakana

I discovered HiraganaQuest by searching Japanese school through Gogo Nihon. If you want to learn Japanese HiraganaQuest should be your first step. For only $5 it is totally worth it. I tried other free apps that use mnemonics and their examples were so bad. I highly recommend it.

one of the best apps for learning hiragana/katakana

worth it!! one of my biggest issues w studying Japanese through language learning apps is that they skip over the basics and go straight into vocabulary and sentence structure. however HiraganaQuest is very thorough and helpful!! 10/10

Actually a great resource

I’ve never written one of these things because I’ve never felt the need to but I believe this is a very well made resource.

The only suggestion I would offer would be to pick which Hiragana/Katagana one would like to study-something akin to flash cards.

Great but I can’t pay!

I love HiraganaQuest so much! It definitely helped me learn hiragana but I just don’t want to pay so I was only able to learn the first 7 characters. nothing on the apps fault but it’s probably worth the price knowing how well it helped me!

Truly fantastic

I’ve tried many different ways to learn hiragana and usually ended up discouraged. With the building blocks and the stories HiraganaQuest uses to teach, Ive learned all 46 to a fairly reliable degree in just under 24 hours. Can not recommend this enough to anyone trying to learn kana

Best Language App I’ve ever used.

I got HiraganaQuest at the recommendation of the school I’m going to be studying at in Japan and, let me tell you, it has been such a blessing. I’ve tried learning Japanese before on other apps (like duolingo) and I really struggled to understand. I always felt like I was just attempting to memorize but never actually deeply learning. HiraganaQuest teaches in such a different way that I not only found it fun but everything stuck so easy I was amazed with what I picked up. It gives you crazy stories and visual images to plant in your head and it says the sounds out loud, has you say them out loud as well, has you trace and draw the characters by hand. Every aspect of learning is there and that makes it work. I was so proud that I was able to actually read and sound out writing in Japanese. I was able to even write it myself. Please use HiraganaQuest, if you are questioning whether you should, do it. Give it a chance, you won’t regret it. And to HiraganaQuest and it’s creators, ありがとう! (*´꒳`*)

Love it, so

I paid for the full version of HiraganaQuest because their method really suits my learning style, anx I was able to learn all the characters in a little over 2 hours (over a couple of days). HiraganaQuest helped me learn so much as a total beginner!

BUT HiraganaQuest needs a lot of work on the other end. I want to be able to have hiragana and katakana in quiz sets that I can easily navigate between. After going through the whole course I wish there was a way to maintain my learning using HiraganaQuest . Right now, I can only strughle to navigate between previous lessons or study in bulk sets. I want more control and options so I can reenforce my learning.

This is a great tool! Thanks so much.

Thank you GogoNihon

Jake from the U.S. here. With very little Japanese speaking/reading ability, I was able to learn all of hiragana and katakana within 2 weeks using hiragana quest everyday. HiraganaQuest really works, and is totally with the $5 in app purchase. Thank you to everyone who helped put this amazing app together. 10/10 would highly recommend.

The FASTEST and most efficient way to learn Hiragana!

I learned the first 7(free) hiragana characters in 17 minutes! And the explanations, stories, and visual representations make them STICK like gorilla glue! I am beyond contentment on learning Japanese with HiraganaQuest. So much fun!

A MUST HAVE for anyone first starting out learning Japanese. Highly recommend!!!

Do yourself a favor and exponentially increase your hiragana/katakana learning rate with HiraganaQuest!!!

Great for learning but there’s one feature it needs

This is a fantastic app and teaches really well and it’s well worth the money you pay for it!

However I wish there was a feature that turns off the English letters during testing so you can associate the sound to the kana

Best

It is cute and I learnt all the characters in hour and a half. Still have some problems with learning characters from bonus lesson as there are a lot information but there is no interactive lessons as for hiragana and katakana. Anyway, it is worth buying, I enjoyed it very much.
And keep developing HiraganaQuest , there are many more things to add.

Arigato!

Great app to learn writing Hiragana and Katakana characters

It has been said over and over that things that you learn in a form of story never abandon you. HiraganaQuest does a great job of making a storyline for all the Hiragana and Katakana characters. 10/10 would recommend to beginner Japanese learners. I can write and read most of the foreign origin words after I got done with the content of HiraganaQuest. My nickname here being an example 👆.

Use it if you are a beginner

HiraganaQuest is amazing compared to other Japanese learning apps such as Duolingo. Reason being is because it characterizes the symbols through stories instead of just telling you the sound they make. This allows it to stay in your mind and you also get tested at the end, allowing for complete mastery of the symbols and the sound they make. I HIGHLY recommend HiraganaQuest to anyone who is a beginner.

The best hiragana writing / learning app I’ve found

I’ve tried at least a dozen apps for learning hiragana and katana and this one is my favorite. I think being tested on the ability to write the characters helps them stick. And the method for memorizing the characters is great too. I bought the paid version and have worked my way through all the levels. I’m now have a foundation to continue learning the language as well as Kanji.

My only wish is that they incorporated the ten-ten versions of the characters into the quiz.
I hope they see this and add them!!!

SO underrated!

Very good app! I specifically like how it gives you storylines to remember what your learning. It also helps writing skills dramatically! I would not use this as a stand alone guide to fluency, but it helps SO MUCH! Please get HiraganaQuest if your beginning in Japanese! 😺😺😺😺
