Absolutely no sound

you can only practice from romaji to hiragana (or katakana) but not the other way around, which is a shame as to be sure you fully know/remember a language you have to be able to translate both ways. also there’s no exercise where you could train to read words. for a paying app the service is really scarce.

Super App - damit hab ich die Hiragana echt fix gelernt. Leider ist das Lernen nur in eine Richtung möglich, deshalb gebe ich einen Stern Abzug. Vielleicht kommts ja noch - ich hatte deswegen Kontakt aufgenommen und eine sehr schnelle Antwort bekommen.

Außerdem sind die Eselsbrücken m.E. bei den Katakana nicht so schön durchdacht wie bei den Hiragana, aber das ist persönlicher Geschmack.

It’s a great app to learn the basics of the Japanese writing system, if you can speak and are comfortable in English. Unfortunately only trains you in writing, not so much in reading. I find myself having an easier time coming up with Japanese characters for syllables now, than figuring out the syllable for a character I amlooking at. At the moment it feels like I can write faster than I can read, but this is a minor complaint and the difference between the two should disappear with more practice from other sources. Also bonus lessons on ten-tens, chou-on, small vowels, etc should ideally offer some lessons to fortify those principles as well. All in all, worth the money (if you want to go beyond the introduction) and recommendable.

It’s very good for learning hiragana and katakana, the app is well structured and the teaching methods make it easy to memorize the characters (keywords, visualization, ...). It took me two days to memorize all of hiragana, and only one day for katakana.
The only thing that is keeping me from giving 5 stars is that I would have loved for the app to provide some reading practice with full japanese words and/or sentences, not just the characters alone.
Other than that, I would totally recommend the app for anyone who wants to learn hiragana and katakana :)

Learning Hiragana with this app works like a charm! The stories are quite easy to memorize and bring (some) structure into a highly complex system. Unfortunately, the Katakana course is almost not useable. The pictograms allegedly shown are absurd and very hard to keep track of. The is especially sad considering the high level of the Hiragana course.

Nonetheless, very much worth its price!

Decent stroke recognition - not perfect, but the best I could find.
Unfortunately there is no tracking of which characters one is having trouble with and only training those.
It should also allow you to optionally review the stroke order when you get things wrong/skip a character.

I can only give 4/5 stars. I dont know why but i dont get any sound on my app that makes it hard to learn

Pro:
The app makes use of mnemonics, so the progress is pretty fast (I learned all 46 Hiragana in 3 days, while also doing my university stuff). This means all letters are linked to a unique story that is easy to remember.
Also, I like the whole design of the App very much. It’s kinda playful but at the same time very minimalistic. I always knew where I am right now and how to get to wherever I want to get.

Con:
There is no real Con.... the App works just great so far.

But there is one thing I’d rather call a useful extension. I think It would be great to have a Hiragana/Katakana to Romanji training. Right now, the only training mode looks like this:
Draw the letter for “Fu”. The App then checks wether your drawing is correct or not. This is great, but I think the other way around would be super useful as well, so this might be a great extension for the future.

This app is by far the very best app to learn hiragana and katakana. The method it uses makes it so so much easier it‘s crazy.
The only downside is, there is no german translation. Well it wouldn‘t be usefull to just translate everything, due to the art of memory. You would have to create something that works even in german.
Besides that, if you are good in speaking english you won‘t have any issues learning with this app.
For me it took 3 days to get every hiragana down.

I learned Hiragana in a Week (to be fluent) and Katagana in 8 Days. Very effective way to learn! The app only had English which is fine for me, but is something to look out for when you aren’t a good reader!

Really fun, memorable little lessons.

Did one lesson every evening before going to sleep and did the „quizzes“ throughout the day when I had some downtime.

The added bonus lessons ad the end were very useful as well!
