A UX failure

Anyone studying user experience should use this app as a case study of bad app design. My main question is “Does anyone at FightCamp use the app?” Because surely if they did they would be just as frustrated.

* the app doesn’t track where you left off. Everyday I have to go find the program I’m in and cycle through it all to get to my next class in the sequence.

* It won’t let me take a class without turning on the trackers. Very frustrating when I get up early and get all ready to take the class (which isn’t always easy) and the tracker battery has died. It won’t let me start the class. The app knows I pay the monthly fee.

* Instructors are lazy. I’ve been taking boxing classes at Title and LA Boxing for years. They always have unique and varied classes. No two classes are ever the same. On FightCamp there is a lot of repetition that gets very boring. Do they need ideas???

* The punch counter isn’t accurate. Sometimes it only counts half my punches. I’ve been boxing with instructors for over 5 years. I would say I have good form.

* FightCamp is expensive. The value proposition or trade off is to provide exercise that I will do because it’s fun. There may be cheaper alternatives but if it doesn’t motivate me to do it then it’s a waste of money. FightCamp is failing their value proposition by making it very difficult with terrible app user experience.

Not my favorite

I personally do not like FightCamp. The equipment is extremely subpar— first off, the gloves are the quality of the ones that you get for free when you first sign up at a gym. You can’t even select the weight of gloves that you want aside from large or small; they’re all just the standard 12 oz. The bag itself (not the base) moves around like it’s filled with air, and the trackers only seem to track, at best, 1 of every 5 punches. The traditional wraps feel like party streamers that are made from paper, and the FightCamp wraps have weird stitching that groups your pinky & ring finger, and middle with your index that makes them SUPER uncomfortable to wear.

I wouldn’t recommend this program to beginners because I have yet to encounter a workout where the instructors go over proper technique, so it’s not likely that you’ll learn the proper foundation of kickboxing. You’re much better off going into a gym to learn the right form.

If you’re an experienced boxer, watching the form of some of the instructors is very frustrating. I truly don’t understand how they can be throwing kicks, or even hooks for that matter, without turning their hips or moving their feet.

The workout itself is okay. If you’re like me and are working out in your garage in Texas, in September, you’ll definitely end sweaty. That said, you will not feel your workout afterwards, or the next day. This might be a personal preference, but I like to be sore after completing a workout.

Too overpriced compared to

The work outs are good. It's kinda annoying how to be able to use the tracker you have to have a subscription. Otherwise trackers are useless not unless you want to pay $41 something dollar a month. I think it's way to overprice for a subscriptions. For the amount of money they are charging for monthly subscription, they should be able to create an app downloadable to a smart TV. This is not even compatible to a fire stick. Only to Roku and Apple TV or they advise you to buy an HDMI cable and connect your phone. Which is crazy. I had to buy a ROKU because it was hard to watch it on the phone.

Too overpriced compared to Peloton Subscription. Which offers a whole lot more workout than fight camp offers.
The worse is not being able to mirror it with the fire stick.
