Used to be great. Now doesn’t work

As soon as they released the paid option DJMREC no longer works for me. I accidentally tapped later when it asked to pay for DJMREC which previously had always been free and now it doesn’t work and there is no option to pay for it so it will work. It’s now just a garbage app sitting on my phone.

Garbage

DJMREC is complete garbage. Went to throw a mix on my djm 900nsx2 and nothing was working. Updated the firmware on my cdj 2000nsx2 and djm nsx2 and still nothing. Ipad os 14.0 not working correctly, iOS 15.5 the same thing, DJMREC shows djm connected but not showing any audio. Called pioneer DJ customer service and spoke with some idiot who didn't know anything about djm-rec, didn't know what a djm-900nsx2 was. Starting to loose faith in Pioneer all together, especially when your customer support reps have no knowledge over equipment and software. Was basically told to post my issue to the forums and a tech rep should respond back within 72 hours. Pretty horrible customer service all around.

ruined a recording

the recording i got from using DJMREC is for some reason much slower than the speed i was playing at … i feel like my settings were correct and I have seen other users complain about the issue on reddit etc. either way it was super disappointing

Use to work now it doesn’t. 2023

I used DJMREC back in 2019. I was able to record a whole 4 hr set. Quality was incredible! Now in 2023 you get a pop up which tells you to update the firmware on certain Pioneer mixers in order for it to work. That’s ok if you are a DJ that uses the same mixer, but if you are a traveling professional DJ you can go to a venue and update their mixer’s firmware. About 15 minutes into my most recent set, I looked down at app and it stopped recording. Professional DJ go another route if you want to record your sets, you’ll waste $10

Potential Unrealized

DJMREC is a great idea, but is too buggy to be useful. One moment it isn’t reading digital input from the djm, next it crashes when trying to open the Sertings or File screen. If it ran consistently, I’d give it 5 stars, but then I go to record a mix and it crashes. Really disappointing.

Unreliable at best, but convenient if it works.

Has failed me multiple times by not correctly connecting to a mixer. Deleting and reinstalling DJMREC helped one time. App generally fails by recording with the phone microphone instead of the mixer, with no way to tell at a glance that something is wrong, regardless if the “use phone microphone” setting is on or off. Second failure mode is connecting to the mixer but not actually accepting audio digitally, so you have no wave form in DJMREC .

Typical buggy pioneer software with a poor user experience. Two stars because when it does work it’s really convenient.

Seemed to have stopped working

Used to be a finicky but works once you get it working. Last couple weeks, just loses connection to 900nxs2 for no reason.
So frustrating to ruin a entire mix. Basically worthless now unfortunately. The idea was good though !

Doesn't work on all djm mixers

Does not work with every djm mixer. You should correct that listing. I have a djm-2000 mixer and record with a tascam recorder. Thought this would be a seamless way to put some of my mixes out there on twitch or wherever else. $10 sounded too good to be true..

Cool but not useful if you use FX

Works fine if you run your FX through the master, however; if you toggle between A and B for your FX, it only records one channel at a time and not both at once (meaning you can’t record your transitions).

Needs updated features

Needs more features for the live option. DJMREC could do A LOT for live djing but it hasn’t changed much. Also never understood why Snapchat was an option to go live and not Tik tok.

Still missing features

Really enjoy DJMREC , but still missing a way to record from your camera app. I enjoy to edit my videos, so forced to go into 3rd party apps (only a few of them) can be irritating.

Mostly solid

The recording feature is great, I would give 5 stars, app keeps crashing when I try to upload to Mixcloud.

Solid app once you follow instructions

After an initial poor review, I didn’t read this through properly. So some human error. There were a few steps to counter act the use of DJMREC along with the older software on my 750MK2 mixer. Once everything was in sink, DJMREC is actually quite good.

Good & Convenient BUT It’s Missing Something

Please, please, please integrate a 96Khz sample rate at 24bit over USB to DJM-Rec for superior recording functionality with the capabilities of the DJM-A9. This capacity would eliminate so much competition and would truly make my day. My entire production chain is digital from cdj-3000 outward with no conversion steps. I would truly appreciate the ability to capture my audio at the digital quality of my top of the line Pioneer Equipment.

I’m an certain the most recent iPhones can handle this, and surely adding the feature into the DJM-Rec app for integration with the a9 would be a nominal time investment for your development team.

Good but…

DJMREC is super convenient. It’s so much easier than using external software. The ability to adjust the level post mix is awesome. The one thing I would say needs to be fixed/updated is that it “conveniently” automatically inserts track markers from cues like faders. Well for djs that use faders a lot it will add a marker way too often. Please pioneer make this optional in the record settings!

Love it but one problem

Love DJMREC it’s is extremely simple. My issue is, I play 4 hour + long sets and this auto stops recording at 2 hours on the dot.

I have to start a new recording as fast as I notice to try and lose as little as possible. But sometimes i forget and look down and have missed 15 min of my set. Really wish I could record the full 4hrs or whatever it may be. For the price I feel like I should.

READ BEFORE USING Great but could use a few updates

DJMREC is simple and Great to récord your mixing!
However some of the features could be more thought of, for example:
I used it yesterday , played one of my best sets ever and was very hype to use the recording.

For some reason DJMREC had my actual MIC on the whole time and you can hear the chatter in the Booth… it also sounds like I just recorded with my phone instead of through the mixer.
Not sure why that is a pre-set feature and I didn’t get to test DJMREC before the gig (my bad…)

The lock feature is great because you may move your phone around and accidentally touch the screen

I also used while my phone was on airplane mode to avoid any other possible issues. Not sure what happens if you try to text/others while using DJMREC .

Best recording app yet

Full sound quality recording app that doesn’t apply any effects. Exactly what I needed. Works with the built in mic and anything that supports audio over usb (not just expensive mixers, it works with my iRig Stream too)

Used w/ DJM-450

I’ve been using DJMREC for over 5 years. 2 different iPhones, never had any issues whatsoever. Then I downloaded DJMREC for a new iPad. Now I no longer can change the names of my tracks. To be clear, it only applies to the iPad.

Love DJM-REC - works well due to continuous improvement

I'm DJ Jen Siren and I've posted over 50 DJ sets to SoundCloud that were recorded with DJM-REC. It has been a lifesaver for my pandemic DJ life! I've been able to recod moments where I've freestyled mg best mixes, and also perfect my DJ skills through listening back to my recording. Thank you!

My recommendation is to have the ability to adjust the sound on a time scale so that I can taper the volume into the intro and out of the outro. I usually use Ableton for that, but would prefer to be able to directly upload it to SoundCloud as a finished product.

That functionally is very nice, and I do appreciate being able to upload to different devices. It would also be cool for DJM-REC to be able to link to my CDJs so that the artists and song titles show up for the timings of my mixes. Right now, I export through recordbox, and upload to SoundCloud as private until I manually copy/paste from the export into my SoundCloud track info.

Again, I love DJMREC!
