Cobu is always crashing. Sometimes you get notifications sometimes you don’t. Sometimes Cobu takes a long time to load when you open it, sometimes it doesn’t. You never know what you’re going to get when you click on the this app app. I’ve been using it for years and the only reason why I have is because my building uses it. I feel bad that they invested in Cobu. There should be a resolution for all these bugs and glitches by now….
There are some good things about Cobu, but the “this app admin” is constantly monitoring everyone’s posts and encourages everyone to be respectful, thoughtful and constructive and will delete inappropriate posts or block a user without warning if the “this app admin” thinks your a threat. In theory that’s a great feature but who is making that call and shouldn’t there be some sort of warning process in place before someone is blocked? My husband was blocked from Cobu without warning or any prior incidents for posting “watch out the hall monitor is out” this post was neither disrespectful, rude, or destructive, but he was still blocked.
There are many bugs in your application and it drives you crazy when using it. Please troubleshoot errors in your application.
Do yourself a favor, don’t even use this app. I was removed from Cobu without warning - the “admin” Roberta was the one who put me in for removal as my “email did not match”. The more I questioned, the more that seemed to be false. They claim they want a “safe” community but all they want to do is promote parties at my community NOT safety. I would not recommend Cobu if you want your community to actually be safe. I posted that I had to phone the police & was removed that night. I was informing my neighbors that there was someone in our parking garage checking door handles & he was also arrested because he was prepping to steal another car, but that was still grounds for removal, apparently. I have spoken to a “Melissa” who claimed my account would be reactivated within 24 hours but an email later she claims they “do not have the technology” & that I would “need to create a new account”. A lot of conflicting & false information. What a shame. It could really be a good app but they target & censor people. Truly disappointed.
What this app promises is “genuine community” for residents in their apartment building/complex. The experience is quite the opposite. There is a “this app Admin” that pretends to be a helpful facilitator but in actuality they are monitoring residents’ posts and activity continuously. If there is any inkling of concern in your posts about safety, building issues, management, neighbors, potential complaints about common areas, or an attempt to discuss ANYTHING of value as a group with your neighbors - that will definitely not happen on Cobu. Your posts will be deleted and you will be blocked (but they won’t notify you that you’ve been blocked, so you wouldn’t necessarily know). Their customers are building managers that don’t want to hear about any complaints. Honestly it all feels oppressive and Big Brother-ish. Terrible, terrible product and experience. I hope the management of this company think about the ethics here and whether they would like to live in a community that uses their own surveillance app. 1 star.
They REALLY want your consent to text you. The latest version of Cobu asks you to consent to text messages and accept terms of service on the same screen (when you open Cobu ) . It doesn’t matter how many times you accept the terms of service (which by the way you can’t see because the hyperlink goes nowhere) , the pop up returns I suspect because they want you to consent to marketing texts.
Not to mention there are so many bugs and in Cobu relating to notifications and speed. Would give no stars if possible.
Posted in a group in Cobu then after a while of not getting a reaction on the comment (despite asking folks to react to let me know they where interested in a plan), I found out through someone else that they can see 2 reactions (theirs and that of another) but I can’t see any reactions on the said post. I proceeded to like the post and then I saw the 2 reactions. This is weird because now one can’t trust the reactions they are seeing
I liked using this to see chatter from my building. But, I can no longer use Cobu due the fact that your recent/new terms of conditions is designed for larger phone screens. I cannot click okay to submit if it will not scroll down and hold for me to press the button. I have an older iPhone SE, which I keep because I love the smaller size.
Perhaps next time, test coding on different phones before you submit changes. You know, the basics.
I think, in theory, the concept for Cobu is nice. I love knowing what’s happening at my building, being able to ask questions, and be updated by the building when things happen/events.
My main issues with this are the performance of Cobu (extremely slow and sluggish even on an iPhone 14 pro). Some other things is that notifications barely work, replying to chat threads is a pain, and it seems some of the features are hardly ever used (marketplace, for example. I see more people using the main chat). A dark mode is a nice to have, but not a deal breaker here. I think Cobu needs to be rehauled overall. I want to use it more, but the performance and overall ux/ui of Cobu make it really difficult.
However, I do see this being a lot better with time as long as the developers are looking at the feedback.
App is a good concept and seems off to a decent start. Performance is so so and the overall UI/UX could use a lot of refinement. Dark mode would be nice. Residents in my building have been a bit aggressive about using the main chat page in Cobu to sell things, which really defeats the purpose of the “marketplace” group and just creates spam. Better moderation would be appreciated.
EDIT: one other thing - my chat is littered with “comment deleted by user” spam. It would be really nice if it just removed the post entirely rather than leaving these weird fragments. If I open Cobu right now, it’s literally all people trying to sell stuff and/or “comment deleted by user” posts.
Cobu is fine for what it does. However whenever I received a push notification from Cobu and click on it, Cobu crashes. I recently received a notification from the bulding and can’t find the message anywhere because I’m not able to click the notifications.
Also - the direct message feature in chat should have push notifications or at least the option. I tried to buy something from a neighbor but ended up missing out because I didn’t know he messaged me back.
Wow Cobu has helped me connect with the community in my rental building. My boyfriend and I found Cobu so easy to use during our transition to our new apartment building. Cobu features upcoming events, cool groups, chat chains, local discounts, etc. I wish previous buildings where I rented had Cobu!
Cobu is a connection to the other people in our apartment building we get to share information and get to know each other in short snippets. Happy to have this little place to be able to check in with other residents.
Before they rolled this out it was almost impossible to communicate with neighbors. Now we have a way to stay connected and help one another. Wish I had this before.
I moved to new bldg a couple months back and was looking to make some friends in the area which is hard these days. Ive met some cool neighbors and joined a group in my building that plays softball which is pretty cool I would definitely recommend Cobu and it helps you sell stuff
There are a lottt of things I love about Cobu... I think marketplace is first and foremost. Marketplace is a complex wide group where people can sell or get rid of things as they move or replace them. It amazing since whatever you’re buying you just walk over to whatever apartment or building which is especially helpful with bulky furniture if you don’t have a car. I’ve bought a bed, chairs and a tv stand easily wheeling them back to my apartment (and for super low prices).
this app also allows for complexes to organize community activities (my second favorite) which has constituted of a free comedy show with bottomless cocktails, a free upcoming Mother’s Day brunch, cocktail hours, etc which are an amazinggg way to meet neighbors. Cobu itself is a great way to meet fellow tenants in general.
Overall it’s well organized, easy to use and great idea... so surprised I hadn’t heard of this with previous complexes.
I’ve liked this app in my building. We have had a rental portal for a while called RenterCafe which was around submitting work orders but i never was able to meet my neighbors despite living here for quite some time, which felt odd. In this app im a part of several groups and have made legit friends with several neighbors i had never know despite many of us being here for a few years. Its new yo my building and i am glad it is here now, thanks this app
I just moved to a new city, new building, new life from a small town in the Midwest. A born introvert, it was quite stressful at first. But then my building acquired the this app app and my experience has been different ever since. Cobu is pretty intuitive and easy to use - though I wish there was a dedicated marketplace to buy stuff and it was a bit faster. I connected with my neighbors, found friends at a this app-sponsored hike and got back into fiction at the this app book club. Thanks for making my transition to the big city an easier one!
I just downsized into my apartment after a long time in the suburbs and I found Cobu this app when I moved it. It’s been nice to know their are friendly neighbors in this building that I can get to know. I started a group for those that are older and wiser and that has been nice. The property team cares a lot about us and has great amenities. this app is a great app to meet people in the building. Some misuse it to complain and such but they keep it safe and civil on here. I’m glad to be living in the city for the first time in a long time. I wish Cobu was in my neighborhood before
Cobu has had some good updates recently but it’s been good to have here. I am pretty new to west coast and didn’t know a ton of people here and it’s not the easiest to meet new people in bars and such. Cobu has some cool groups like a book clun and a plant group which is actually pretty fun. Cobu can always be better but I have really liked this app in my building. And during covid it’s honestly been a lifesaver
