CRASHES non-stop. DOA. Totally unprofessional piece of work

Continues to be Dead-On-Arrival to UCSFEurekaResearch store. Please Apple, take it down. How many months and counting? You can't even open this thing as it crashes — again and again, month after month, release after new release. What a joke of a tech team. All on the same exact version of iOS that UCSF themselves advertised as a supported version too. Your tuitions and our tax dollars at work here. If you won't/can't resolve a straightforward issue like this, it brings serious doubts about abilities of your staff to address more technically challenging issues involving the security of user data and the credibility of your study results.

Hangs on “study is no longer available” dialogue box

I’ve used Eureka to participate in several studies. I had signed up for the healtheheart study, and after completing a lengthy intake survey, when I reopened UCSFEurekaResearch , another study, TREAT, popped up a dialogue box saying it’s no longer available. after acknowledging this dialogue box, it takes me to a grayed-out screen for the TREAT study, and no matter what I do, that screen stays and won’t allow me to go anywhere. UCSFEurekaResearch is now unusable.

Too superficial to be helpful

UCSFEurekaResearch continues to be just short of useless. It appears that the 100.4 degree threshold is the test for having Covid19. In June 2020 this narrow view is simply wrong. It does not account for folks who take aggressive action to treat a sudden fever before it gets out of control. Unexplained muscle and joint pains are inadequately considered. Many folks would comment that the degree and nature of muscle aches are the key finding. It does not resemble a backache you might get from a bad golf swing or equivalent motion. UCSFEurekaResearch seems designed to discourage folks infected with Covid19 from getting tested or overwhelming clinical facilities. The values of UCSFEurekaResearch as currently designed is more negative than positive.

Too many negative reviews

Signed up. Then, they didn’t send a link for UCSFEurekaResearch , so an email was sent requesting help. After a link was sent, downloaded UCSFEurekaResearch - I should have read the reviews first. After reading the reviews, I deleted UCSFEurekaResearch .

Be The Match was the group that sent the invitation. But one of there employees had posted some very negative/unprofessional comments on one of my websites - they didn’t know that their IP address was recorded with their comment. So I had to deal with that.

In addition, I had a very negative experience when BTM called/emailed me about being a potential match. So those two incidents just didn’t help.

Not sure why BTM contacted me about this project but after seeing the reviews, I just don’t have a good feeling.

I need a app that was made by a pro, not by a student working on their degree.

There are far too many negative reviews for UCSFEurekaResearch . It uses too much battery power.

I would love to help and have even volunteered for the stage 3 vaccine trials. I even tried to volunteer for the BTM program.

It just seems like these groups and their programs/research are poorly run. (My spouse is a scientist and I have been in several different labs that are professionally run.)

I can not run the risk of having a problem app, that also doesn’t respect privacy, on my phone!

I have deleted UCSFEurekaResearch and am withdrawing from this poorly run program!

App doesn’t work after update

I was part of a study and after the update I can no longer log in. I even tried forget password and it doesn’t recognize my email. I tried creating a new account and I get an error message. Everything was working great before the update. I’m so disappointed. The text reminders I keep getting for my study are annoying now because I have no way to log in!

Serious battery hog

I was using UCSFEurekaResearch for a couple of months to answer COVID surveys, then at some point it started becoming a serious battery drain. I’d go to bed with 20% left on my phone, and the battery would run out while I was sleeping. I finally checked in settings to see what app was using so much battery, and Eureka was *by far* the biggest battery draining app on my phone. No idea why such a simple app would be such a power hog (from reading other reviews, probably because it’s checking my location way too frequently), but I had to delete it to keep my phone usable. Disappointing, as I wanted to support this research.

Can't complete any but shortest survey

Contributing to information about covid seemed a responsible thing to do. For first several days it worked fine with only 2-3 questions. Today three survey was longer with questions about gyms, restaurants and theaters. Not sure what else was in survey because it crashed every time I tried too complete that days survey. I quit and restarted UCSFEurekaResearch four or more times and restarted the iPhone. Despite that I have been unable to complete today's survey. Not sure off UCSFEurekaResearch or the server it communicates with is at fault. Whichever it will result in days loads this compromised conclusions. Garbage in garbage out.

Broken workflow for password reset on ios

After requesting a password reset, I receive an email which contains a link.
Clicking the link takes me to a webpage which immediately redirects me to the ios app store page for the Eureka app.
Clicking “open” on that store page takes me back to UCSFEurekaResearch which is still sitting there offering to send a password reset email.
There is no way out of that perpetual loop.

Delete app after survey

After reading that UCSFEurekaResearch tracks you, despite saying it won’r. I delete it each time after answering Covid survey questions. Hope that stops tracking. I notice that now the questions take on a more political survey tone such as whether you have financial concerns. Etc. That’s not Covid health issues.

Glad to contribute, but

I’m glad to contribute to the surveys, and I haven’t experienced the crashes that others have. I do wish it didn’t try to track my location when I’m not using it; I need to force-quit UCSFEurekaResearch to get it to stop. I wish that they’d just take my location when I’m filling out the survey and be done with it.

Works reasonably, tracks location

As others have said, the weird thing about UCSFEurekaResearch is that it continues to track location after exiting, despite my settings of, “no, don’t do this, not ever!” I’ve grown used to force-quitting very time I use UCSFEurekaResearch , since I’ve noticed battery usage reporting, “eureka used 14% battery via background usage from 2am-3am!” otherwise.

Aside from that, UCSFEurekaResearch has appeared stable and functional in recent releases.

Runs smooth, works great

Recently uploaded this to my iPhone7 and it is working great. Pics up right where I left off, no troubles opening or closing. I was able to complete tasks smoothly. Only glitch I found was not being able to update my address but that’s not something I really need to have done.

Location tracking bug

Overall, UCSFEurekaResearch works very well. Sign-in was quick and easy. The questionnaires work fine. Although, I haven’t figured out why the study hasn’t asked if I’ve been vaccinated yet (I have). When I first downloaded UCSFEurekaResearch , I noticed some negative reviews about location tracking. Although I used UCSFEurekaResearch for many months without an issue. Then recently UCSFEurekaResearch starting following my location even after I closed UCSFEurekaResearch (Apple places a blue indicator at the top of the Home Screen), even though my setting was set to allow only when using UCSFEurekaResearch . After two days of that, I had to go into the settings app and turn off location services for that app, which seemed to solve the problem. It’s a strange bug, though.

Hopefully good research

I’ve been using UCSFEurekaResearch for about two months and have had zero problems with it. They notify me on a regular basis to answer basic questions which takes less than a couple minutes maybe four or five days a week.
It’s a good reminder to practice good sanitation and social distancing.

😕 respond to reviews

You are hobbling your studies by not responding to each and every review, positive or negative, here in the AppStore. Responding what good developers do.

Reasonable people are properly skeptical and hesitant in joining your (worthwhile?) studies when you don’t respond to the very pointed specific criticisms about tracking, etc. which constitute a large percentage of reviews. Make it easy for people to choose to help.

Also your website is vague corporate-speak happy talk. Communicate straightforwardly without fluffy marketing verbiage. The short Vimeo video is good.

I’m drawn to help as I fully believe in science, but I’m turned off by UCSF’s presentation as well as a lack of response to reviews.

Giving five stars now, will sign on and see what actually happens with battery drain — and whether my user experience is not a pain and a time-waster.

I hope this criticism reaches someone who can understand and execute. And respond.

Great App

Hi! I wanted to say thank you for helping everyone figure out more info around COVID-19. UCSFEurekaResearch hasn’t given me any problems and notifies me once a day to record my personal info. I have the latest iPhone and set all apps to auto update so maybe that’s why I haven’t had the issues everyone seems to be experiencing? I have one concern though, I originally granted Eureka access to my iPhone health app but I cannot see where that info is being synced from any of my devices. When I went into settings to ‘Connect a Device’, the screen was just blank. Since I want to help as much as I can, I wanted to know how I can make sure my health app data is being recorded. Thanks again!

Works well

I have been participating in the Covid-19 study for many months now and haven’t experienced any problems with UCSFEurekaResearch . It sends daily reminders and texts sometimes. I’m happy to be part of a study like this.

Much improved

UCSFEurekaResearch had some issues with crashing early on but it is now much more reliable. The great thing is that u can connect with a variety of studies based on the causes u are interested in. Participating in scientific research helps us all and I’m happy to do my part.

COVID-19 Citizen Science (SciShow)

I just saw UCSFEurekaResearch on SciShow. I downloaded it and it works. I wanted to leave a review because so many others were reporting problems, and when I saw those problems I was skeptical about it.

But having now used it for several days, I legitimately don’t understand where all these negative reviews are coming from about bugs and login issues because I haven’t had any problems at all. I’m running on an iPhone X right now which has been updated regularly and everything works fine. It’s literally never crashed once.

Anyway, I hope their research helps end this pandemic and I’m happy to be a part of it. It feels good to give back somehow.

Great resource app

I was so excited UCSFEurekaResearch company started tracking SARS - COV- 2. I have learned so much from UCSFEurekaResearch and another CLINICAL trial app. I have been able to advise my family correctly. I did a clinical trial for allergies to Covid vaccine and got my 3 Covid 19 shots. 1 placebo, 2 Pfizer Bio N Tech. This is a great app! I am enrolled in a few of the clinical trials. Clinical trials save lives so I’m more then happy to be enrolled.
