Packing List Checklist Reviews

After reading this you’ll probably think I’m a shill for the developer. I’m not. I’m just an adventure traveler who uses PackingListChecklist a lot. My traveling always involves a combination of camping, hiking, biking, fishing, canoe tripping, motorcycle tripping and so on. I’m often planning more than one trip at the same time.

Packing List allows me to create, update and check off from various lists. I appreciate being able to categorize my gear which makes building a new list much easier. I also like the separate To Pack & To Do function of each list.

For years I have used spreadsheets (MS Excel and Apple Numbers) for making lists. This worked fine, but I found them cumbersome to check off. Which is why I searched for an App to serve this function.

It’s simple to use. When I’m getting ready for a trip I don’t want to be going through alot of non sense to get to where I need to be.
A couple of things I would like to see is a dark mode. Making the categories have the ability to be in different colors. And making it be able to when you cross off on one list it crosses off the same item on another list. Example. I have the regular list. Kitchen, bedroom, bathroom , food,etc. Then I have a list for items that stay in my RV. Example coffee filters. Stuff I don’t need to bring every trip but might need to re-up every now and then. When I check it out in one list it should check off on the other list as well.

It is difficult to find the perfect packing check list, but I believe PackingListChecklist hits the spot. Most apps are too complicated: Setting trips, picking destinations, choosing activities, etc. PackingListChecklist is limited to a Packing Check-List and a To-do list. Perfect!

You can set categories for different lists of items and assign each category an emoji. You can even add some complexity by giving each item a description and an importance. With premium you can even add quantities (which probably should be a free feature).

All in all, this is exactly what I needed for traveling, and if you travel a lot, something like this is essential. PackingListChecklist works really well (it looks like a native app) and is definitely worth the money to support the developers.

PackingListChecklist is awesome. I have small children and we’ve been on several trips with them over the last few months. This has been a lifesaver with trying to remember to pack and do everything each time we leave.

I would love to see more ways to categorize everything, though. I love that I can group things but would love some kind of tagging system so I can see not only what I need to pack in each category, or what my pending items are, but also, for example, what things I have to leave out until the last minute, or what things I’m packing that will go in our carry-on bag for the plane.

Sometimes, an app is better than a list. This is certainly one of those times. I travel a lot, but it’s hard to remember what to bring for work, a 5k, trip to Mom’s, romantic overnight, cruise, lake vacation... PackingListChecklist helps me organize what I need, then save it in separate lists to customize each. Cheap! I could do most of what I wanted with the free app, but I happily paid these guys their $2.99 for giving me EXACTLY the ease and flexibility I needed.
I see myself having a list for just about everything...and the list of “actions” that need to happen before travel? Genius! Thanks for PackingListChecklist. It’s perfect.

A lot to like but with some missing elements. First it’s extremely easy to edit and organize. It uses conventional editing that will be familiar. The export is excellent and in a very useable format.

What’s missing is a summary of what needs to be completed by categories. For instance 12/20 in category headers letting you know you’ve completed 12 of 20 items. Without a summary it’s to easy to overlook a item. Might be nice to have some color marking the nearness of completion as well as a import feature.

After all this still better than the other 3 list programs I’ve used. Keep up the good work and I look forward to the improvements you implement.

For some reason I'd never looked for a packing list app before, but this is super useful, looks nice, and has a bunch of suggested items in categories so that I don't need to enter in as many things manually.

If I were to make two suggestions/requests, they would be to add a button to expand/collapse all categories at once, and to add a search bar for the things already in the list to find things quickly.

Overall nice, simple app that does what I need it to. Happy to throw a couple bucks the developers' way to unlock a little extra functionality.

I really like PackingListChecklist . It’s easy to use and very through, but it needs a more polished look. A dark theme would like nice and maybe offer some different color choices in the IAP upgrade.

Maybe it’s just me, but once the packing list items have been selected from the categories, it might be helpful to just have a list view without having to open each category to see items needed to pack. Then provide options to show the list in alphabetical order, category order, completed or not completed. Just some thoughts to make PackingListChecklist better.

I’m going to continue PackingListChecklist for a while and come back to review again.

This is the perfect packing list app! It's simple, clean looking and easy to use. It has all the features you need to quickly create a list and check the items off. It's so easy to add items, move them around and edit them. The $2.99 in-app purchase to be able to add the number of the items is well worth the money (and I really appreciate that they let me try it for free to figure that out). I've had another pro packing list app for years that I never use because it's ugly and difficult to add items. I am so glad I found PackingListChecklist and you will be too!

I love using PackingListChecklist because it helps me organize all the various things I need to bring for work trips as well as camping/vacations. I have used it many times, and I like that the lists are saved so I don’t have to re-invent the wheel. There are a lot of other great features, such as notes for each item, which I have used to locate things that I pack. There is also a timed reminder feature, which I have not yet used, but just discovered, and it could be useful. Thanks for creating such a helpful app!

Very nice app! Clean, simple, and easy to use interface. Many travel checklist apps appear cluttered and have way too many options to pick from. PackingListChecklist developer really does listen to feedback, I made a few suggestions and within a few weeks they had already incorporated many of my suggestions and I got a response back from the developer. I originally used the free version for my first trip but I quickly bought the premium version after that, well worth the small price for a very helpful app.

I downloaded several packing list apps to try them out, and this is the only one I’m keeping. It comes with a pre-populated lists (what a timesaver!) that’s easy to customize, and additional lists can be based on an existing list or you can start from scratch. PackingListChecklist works dependably and it has a simple, highly functional user interface. Plus, when I asked a question I was surprised to receive an immediate response. This is the best packing list app I’ve seen—and I’ve tried many. I’m going premium to support the developer.

I’m a working musician, with a lot of gear and odds and ends to pack. It’s a lot to keep track of. Sometimes I drive as many as eight hours one way for a gig. It’s a long way to go and forget something. I purchased PackingListChecklist and created customized, detailed, categorized packing lists just prior to one such a lengthy trip. I slept like a baby the night before the trip, knowing that I had everything packed.
My only criticism of PackingListChecklist is that the interface feels a teeny bit cluttered. Otherwise I am loving PackingListChecklist! Thanks for giving me a good night sleep guys!

I am leaving the country for the first time. PackingListChecklist has been EXTREMELY helpful for me to stay organized between carry-on and my checked bag. The suggestions have also been very helpful because I would never had thought about bringing certain items if I didn’t read the suggestions.

Also, next time I go hiking and camping, PackingListChecklist will be a go-to.

As for the next update, it would be very helpful to be able to organize the order of the items within my list.

I needed a app for packing because I always forget things every app I tried was too crowded or costed money. I have been using PackingListChecklist for years now for yearly camping trips to family visits and it has never done my wrong. I like that you do not need to buy PackingListChecklist or membership but you can, I personally do not need it but I like that you do not need the membership to use PackingListChecklist . I am planning to use PackingListChecklist for my trip in 15 days and I’m honestly exited and thankful it exist.

I purchased PackingListChecklist (pro) after reading the 4.7 starts but I’m very disappointed. The most annoying thing is what people are saying about items listed in multiple places and under multiple names (ie. Swimsuit one place, bathing suit another, swimwear somewhere else). There are so many things and options that you don’t know if you’ve added it to your list and then once you add multiple, it’s impossible to tell if you’ve already added it.

Also you can’t add your own commonly used things to the main database. You’d have to make your own new list. I find this super annoying.

Will be looking for another app.

Overall, I love the interface and simplicity of Packing List. However, the UI often gets frustratingly slow and choppy when scrolling through a list. This seems to happen especially with “Pending” lists, when scrolling up, and/or when PackingListChecklist hasn’t been force-closed in awhile. I’d happily change my rating to five stars once that’s all fixed.

Also, it’d be great if PackingListChecklist had a way to create folders that lists could be organized into.

I like the simplicity of PackingListChecklist for packing lists. But I paid extra so that I could use my lists across multiple devices and they would be backed up to the cloud. That’s not happening. And there doesn’t seem to be any way to make it happen; I can’t find any settings for PackingListChecklist at all. I sent an email to the developer, and I will update my review if this issue is fixed. Until then, I suggest saving your money.

Being able to email the list to yourself, then print it out, is great! I can now sync my iPad and iPhone. Love PackingListChecklist! If there’s a better app out there for creating packing lists, I have yet to see it!
I gave PackingListChecklist a positive review a couple of years ago, and have been using it since then; this is an update review. I still love PackingListChecklist ! I have to email the packing list to myself, for I don’t have a wireless printer. Wish I could give PackingListChecklist six stars!

Wow! PackingListChecklist is extremely well thought out for travel: it gives you a lot of useful suggestions, has quantity for the items, categories, everything you'd need. But the goodness doesn't stop there I started using it to get organized when travelling but now I'm using it for everything! I recently read The Checklist Manifesto and decided to add several checklists to PackingListChecklist and it's been awesome! It's crazy how a book and an app are having such a positive impact in my life.
