I was so excited to start using HornadyBallistics not that I’m getting into PRS and invested a great deal in gear and ammo. I selected the ammo and app because it’s what’s used by our instructors. I’ve gone through the setup and ensured everything was dead on only to have HornadyBallistics crash over and over, I can change wind, pressure temp, everything, but it will not move the cone up from 0.0 not matter the data entered and saved, or I’ll be 80% done entering the data and it will just close HornadyBallistics , at this point I wish I didn’t spend so much money on the ammo because the calculator is garbage, for me at least, I’ve sent an email into their support team and will update if they even reply.

4DOF is the way forward when it comes to long range ballistics. This is the most accurate ballistic computer out there; it has much more fidelity than any BC based solver.
Hornady is leading the pack, but progress comes with some cost. HornadyBallistics is already incredible, and the areas that need improvement, such as a notes field and a way to better organize firearms and the several loads one may shoot with them is coming. It’s chock full of Hornady’s long range Bullets and loads and includes some of the most popular Bullets from Hornady’s competitors, but not all of them. Hornady is adding more of its own products and those of it’s competitors all the time, but the 4DOF data collection process is slow. It’s the nature of the beast.
HornadyBallistics is made by shooters and it shows. If you’re running ELD-M or ELD-X, this is your app.

I won’t echo the other great reviews. It is an awesome calculator that costs nothing to access the 4DOF data.

I would like to see HornadyBallistics have an option to estimate altitude by using the GPS location. There should also be an option to use the iphone’s built in barometer for the pressure reading.

my other gripe is that my weathermeter (the one with the built in compass), won’t let me override the wind direction when the device is paired. This wouldn’t be a problem if the weather meters compass was even slightly accurate.

This is an excellent, spot on app. All calculations for me have been dead accurate to extreme ranges. The only failing that I see with it is that it takes a second to navigate to the specific rifle calculator that you need. I wish there was a way to set the calculator for a specific rifle to the default page when HornadyBallistics is opened, to safe a precious few seconds when hunting and needing those calculations. Otherwise can’t complain!

Great app but there’s a design choice that I consider incorrect, which is that they reverse the arrow AND magnitude polarity going from left to right or the reverse which confused me until I thought about it. In other words if you’re pointing right with an arrow with a positive number then it’s increasing right, if you change the positive number to a negative number than it’s increasing left, but they both change the arrow AND change the magnitude which means it’s always increasing to the right or increasing come up for elevation.

HornadyBallistics is pretty good, at least as good or better than other free options. I opted into the range cards feature and I am still struggling to figure out what I even paid $.99 for. I mean, $.99 not a big deal I already wasted more than $.99 worth of my time on this review. I was under the impression that I could create a range card that I could DO SOMETHING with, like maybe export it into excel, or at the very least email it to myself from HornadyBallistics as a PDF so I could print it. As far as I can tell there is no way to put the information on a “card” at all with HornadyBallistics. I ended up typing all the data into Excel from that HornadyBallistics gave me to make, wait for it a range CARD. I do not wish to be tethered to my phone especially while hunting and printing a range card for simple solutions is the easiest way to be comfortable with mid to long range shots, I wish HornadyBallistics offered a way for me to migrate the data in some way that would allow me to print it. At the end of the day this is all just math which is why there are dozens of these apps and they can all generate the exact same info so it all comes down to aesthetics and user interface. HornadyBallistics is ok in those departments.

Over the years, I have tried to patch components together from different online companies. Sometimes for price, sometimes for other peoples opinions. Don’t get me wrong, opinions count, or I wouldn’t be writing this. I’ve been the cheap way, and non responsive way. “Not Good”. Hornady, not only makes multiple components, they’re commitment to Duty, and responsibility, are surpassed by very few or none. I believe the Management has set a good example for the younger employees. Especially when you consider the amount of products they manufacture with fantastic Quality. I’m a shooter, and reloader, and have multiple components Hornady provides. Their Bullets, are an ever evolving process through experience and testing. I know, the data they provide with clear and concise part numbers for reloaders are invaluable, especially concerning safety. I have settled down to a comfortable place with the Hornady service. I will continue to support this company, and hope for continued commitment in all facets of firearm equipment. You reap what you sow! Bless you all.

Just downloaded HornadyBallistics and it’s not opening. App screen comes for about 10 secs then closes out and it takes me back to my phones home screen. Deleted HornadyBallistics and re-downloaded and same thing happens. Not leaving a bad review just trying to see what the issue is.

I have been using this software since it’s release for all my long range shooting competitions and the features and data have been a huge help in my success. There are a lot of great features included in this software that account for everything needed to make long range hits. Highly recommend. Best part it’s Free!! Stop spending money on the other programs that don’t work.

Great & informative, subscribed and use the Hornady reloading data, brass & bullets almost exclusively (occasionally coated Missouri Bullet Co.) for my Ruger .45 Bisley Hunter with 7.5” barrel. I’m so much older after all these years of shooting with so much experimenting & testing within pressure limits, takes time to develop very accurate loads on the upper end. HornadyBallistics was key to the lock that immediately gave me extremely accurate reloads. Love it!

The Hornady app is a godsend. I’ve never used any ballistic apps or Kestrels or anything of the sorts. I took a long range shooting class, new gun, new scope had no idea what the heck I was doing. They required downloading the Hornady app and using the Kestrel 5700 with 4DOF. After getting all the numbers dialed in about an hour later, I rang still at 1,000 yards 3 times in a row. Never could have done it without the Hornady app!!

First of all I would say overall it’s great app. Getting information quickly is extremely helpful. However HornadyBallistics contains about half the data that my hard copy manual contains. Limited cartridge choices , Limited bullet choices /grn., limited powders. One would figure for a $20 purchase and being all digital HornadyBallistics would contain all the reloading data it’s ever collected! Common Hornady! You can do way better than this!

I have been reloading for 15yrs now and Hornady is by far the most accurate in bullet design and consistency. I wish I had a crystal ball 3 years ago and stocked up , either I can not find what I need or the price is so outrageous I can not afford it. If you are thinking about starting up reloading I highly recommend Hornady, they have the credibility and experience in this market. Hope this helped!

Since the most recent IOS update HornadyBallistics crashes every time I tried to select any of the menu options. Deleted app and reinstalled and now it doesn’t get past the launch screen before crashing. Went looking for APP support on Hornady website with no luck so this is a last resort.

GREAT APP WHEN WORKING.

update: HornadyBallistics is back working great! Hornady, you may want to let your customers know when you have a known issue (even if it’s not your fault) rather than radio silence.

Hornady hit it out of the park with HornadyBallistics. I’ve been using it for over a year and love it. It covers just about everything. If I had a wish list here are 2 things I would add and pay extra for:
A built in rangefinder
A way to tap into the weather stations for wind, humidity, etc.
Right now I use my scope to rangefind or my rangefinder but I’d like to leave it in my bag and I hate looking up the weather/ altitude info in another app.
All in all HornadyBallistics is still the best out of all I’ve seen and tried.

Had my 300 win mag dialed out to 850 yards but had not had a chance to shoot farther. A friend recommended the Hornady App so I got it. Found a mule deer buck at 960 yards. Used HornadyBallistics and whacked him first shot perfect lung shot. He was chasing does pretty hard so he circled around and faced us after shot one. I knew he was going down but we took a neck shot to end it quick for him. Perfect neck shot again at 960 yards. HornadyBallistics is great. I only wish it would display kinetic energy.
Update: Hornady responded to this review and explained where in HornadyBallistics I can find kinetic energy and velocity at distance.

I can't say enough good things about HornadyBallistics. It takes a few minutes to acquaint yourself with the inner workings, but the way that it is put together is absolutely intuitive.

Other calculators have clunky designs, and look like they were made in the 1990s. This thing is slick, minimal, everything is where you think it would be, and as I said once you acquainted her self with the different parts, it's extremely easy to use.

Do yourself a favor, don't bother paying for some calculator, when you can get a better one - this one - for free.

I’ve recently purchased a 7prc rifle for long range hunting. Hornady offers a few variations in bullet weights. They have all of their offerings uploaded for easy pick of the caliber and weight which is awesome, You just have to change some variables and your speed. They also have a general calculator for non Hornady bullets such as for my .30-06 with custom loads.
I checked their calculations for the MOA, and every time I was super pleased with it. It worked great in the field when I sighted in at 4000’ and 50* and then hunted and adjusted for 9500’ and 20* with 5mph cross wind. Everything was true and accurate, and made a clean shot. Very impressed.

Got HornadyBallistics because I have been using Hornady 6.5 CM 140 ELD Match with my Ruger Precision. Spent about 30 minutes going through HornadyBallistics and figuring out all the features. Punched in all the weather data I could find from a local Davis weather station, ranged with a Bushnell Elite 1 mile, used the shooting angle and Azimuth features...bang! First round hits and solid groupings at 259, 451, 721, and 5/10 hits at 1034 yards. Wind was gusty 20-30mph. The suggested adjustments HornadyBallistics gave me were spot on. HornadyBallistics made me look a professional with years of experience. Have used it numerous times after that first outing with similar results. My advice: take your time figuring out how HornadyBallistics works, and if you’re not using a Kestrel, search for the closest weather station and use that data for weather input.

I just purchased a new Savage 6.5 creedmoor and a SWFA 20x42 scope about 8 weeks ago. I zeroed my gun at 100 yards and used HornadyBallistics to start moving out in increments to 1000 yards. HornadyBallistics is amazing! It takes all of the guess work out and will have you smacking steel at distances you would not imagine! I love my creedmoor but HornadyBallistics was the real secret to improving my accuracy! Great job Hornady!
