Steals money and doesn’t work properly

UPDATE: I have been trying to get a refund to my bank account for a glitch in TimHortons that made a duplicate charge to my bank account on January 4th. Today is January 22nd. I still do not have a refund. PLEASE DO NOT USE TimHortons! It is absolute garbage and the Tim Hortons customer service is completely incapable of understanding the concept of a duplicate charge and providing the simple service of a refund. I have talked to/emailed at least 9 different people, including on social media and not one of them has correctly read the explanation, nor have they provided the correct service. I am beyond frustrated and just want my money back and TimHortons out of my life forever.

- - -

TimHortons never works how it should. It freezes, doesn’t place orders when you tap the place order button and claims it hasn’t been able to transfer funds through Apple Pay. Today it deducted the same dollar amount from my bank account twice. When you try to reach customer service through TimHortons you’re lead to a screen with dead links and no phone number to call. Not only was my card charged twice, the second charge didn’t even post to my Tim card so I can’t even use the money in a store. It just doesn’t exist anywhere. It’s really annoying that I have to go through all this just for coffee.

Carol Parker

My husband and I go to the Tim Hortons on Lilly in Plymouth at least 5 times / week. We have been going there since it opened. We visit other TH when we are away from our favorite TH, but the TH in Plymouth is the best. The people that work there are very professional, conscious of what they are doing and are ALWAYS friendly. Even during the pandemic, when only the drive through was open they were always glad to see their customers. The manager is always on her toes. She’s great and very personable. You have a great company. Keep doing what your doing. We really enjoy how you change your menu up. The Northville and Luvon Tim Hortons are excellent as well.

WORST App with terrible customer service

This should be my favorite app as I love Tim Hortons but it has been nothing but trouble. I live in US, near Canadian border so when I first signed up TimHortons auto defaulted my account to Canada instead of US. Then TimHortons didn’t work for anything- no rewards, no nothing. I tried to correct the error but there was no way to correct it myself. (What if someone moves from one side of the border to the other, what about the thousands of us in my community who travel back and forth over the border frequently?) I ended up having to contact customer service and the only options they gave were to create another account with a different email or completely delete the original account. I chose the latter which took several days and a series of annoying processes. When you delete your account you sign several data & privacy disclosures which quite frankly were kind of terrifying. The original plan had been to recreate the account with the correct country of origin but with the sketchy policies regarding what they are doing with your data and a not easily accessible customer service/help desk that took weeks to simply change a location. It looks like it is either over pay for coffe from now on, or better yet maybe I skip Tim Hortons altogether now.

Doesn't work.

I rarely write reviews but TimHortons has frustrated me time and again. I keep coming back to it hoping they've fixed the problems, because I love going to Tim Hortons, but it's just useless. The system is terrible: you can use Apple Pay to add money to your virtual Tim Card, but to order online you NEED to take the money from the Tim Card, and you can only refill from your bank account in minimum $5 increments. This seems designed to get you to leave little amounts of money stuck in TimHortons to encourage you to keep ordering. On my last try, I could not get Apple Pay to even connect correctly, and couldn't reload the card, so I couldn't order online. Also, this is an app made for Canada with very little attention paid to US customers, which can cause real problems. It's supposed to choose CAD or USD based on your location but this didn't work for me; despite being 40 miles into Michigan from Canada, in the past TimHortons interpreted all amounts as Canadian dollars. It would add $5 CAD to the virtual Tim card, which ended up being like $4 and change in USD. My bank then hit me with an international exchange fee. It was as if I had actually visited a Tim Hortons location in Canada. It's been a lot of stress; for a chain this big, I'm surprised how buggy TimHortons is.

So why give it any stars?

I’m giving TimHortons 1 star to try to offset the amount of people that give it 5 stars and then continue to write an entire review stating things they’d like to see changed or improved. If it’s not a good app then don’t let its rating in the store say it’s a 4.5 star app.
I’m going with the “Canadians are so nice” angle here and telling you that you don’t have to make the developers feel good even though their app is trash.
It won’t link my rewards card to TimHortons rewards. It says that I registered it in Canada, which I did not. So therefore my US card can not be linked to a Canadian profile. This is something that should not even be an issue to begin with but it just adds to the headache of also trying to place an order. TimHortons will tell you that numerous things are out of stock or not available at a location, but then if you ask for it in person they will 9/10 times have the item in store.
All of this making TimHortons itself inoperable and now unnecessary. I’m deleting it because it makes more work for me than just placing a simple order. I love Tim Horton’s in-store products so I won’t hold it against the coffee, but they really need to hire an entire new dev team for a new app.

Horrible App

I rarely leave an app review, but TimHortons is awful. For items I actually order daily, I have to go into the store because TimHortons doesn’t have ANY options. For example, I order a latte, but TimHortons has only one size (and doesn’t tell you what size that is). There are no options for large or medium. There is a drop down box to change the milk, but only one option on the list. It says you can order and redeem rewards points from TimHortons , but when I order coffee or other items it doesn’t offer me the option to redeem my built up rewards. Also, when you order form TimHortons , it sometimes doesn’t count the order toward a reward. I ordered an item on TimHortons and then ordered an item in the store and scanned the reward barcode and it only credited one. That’s happened twice. The store also doesn’t have what is on TimHortons . Ordered a lunch item once only to hear the person working at the restaurant complaining that someone placed a mobile order for something they didn’t have. I had to opt for something else on the menu (while paying for what I wanted and not getting it). Really, just fix TimHortons and get better organized. It’s not ready for prime time.

It’s okay

At first, I had the hardest time getting my physical card points transferred to TimHortons . The employees at the stores couldn’t help and the customer service number in Canada tried to help but the bottom line is the points never transferred (3 years worth). I thought I would start fresh and open a new account. I went to the stores 3 times and my points didn’t take. Not to mention TimHortons thought I was in Canada and caused another problem. So, I decided to try another time to open up a fresh account using a different email. My first visit to a store and purchase did not give me credit (points) for that visit but I did get points for my next 2 visits. I have been a regular customer of Timmy’s since they started opening stores in my area about 25 years ago. Prior to that I had to get my Timmy’s coffee when I visited Windsor, Ontario or Toronto.
They have fantastic products and I’m glad there are many stores in my area.

Forcing use of Tim’s Card?!!!

Edit: Wow a response! I should be glad eh? Guess they didn’t read the review though. FYI guys… I already emailed your support as well as called/emailed CBC news and others. Was just too darn tired to go flood you guys on social media but that’s next. Not that it would accomplish anything… #TimHortonsCares

—————
Are you kidding me? Seriously this must be a joke… because if you’re now FORCING us to use & preload your card vs paying directly (ApplePay, credit card etc. as I’ve done and have payment methods setup for) then GOODBYE Tim Hortons. Not only will I NOT use TimHortons but I’ll not buy anything from you again. Why? Preloading your card with MY money in advance is me giving you an interest free loan! Forcing everyone using TimHortons to do this will surely give you a lot of cash to float… I have to put up with this at banks but refuse to from a merchant wanting my business. I hope everyone reading this does the same and says goodbye to you. What a slimy move on your part.

Not bad...

Update: as this is my first use I feel like I should point out that I got to the drive thru and said “I placed an app order under the name ...” and got a “ohhhhh..... just pull up.... TimHortons is really problematic....” so as I wait in line we shall see if I get my order or not

I Will admit this is my first use of the new app, as I had given up on the old app and didn’t realize there was a new version. Ordering was fairly easy, though there aren’t great descriptions of what the food items are. Mixed berry oatmeal... is it just plain oatmeal with berries on it? There also doesn’t seem to be a way to customize and say add sweetener or anything to something like oatmeal. I like having an app so I can browse the menu before arriving but so far this one doesn’t seem to offer much benefit to using it Versus ordering in store. Also, why no perks for app ordering etc like there are from some of your big competitors in the coffee/breakfast market

Worst Rewards system

I come to Tim Hortons every single morning before work and have like 5 rewards saved up right now. You know why I haven't used any? Because the only thing I drink is a French Vanilla cap and their rewards system is completely restrictive of what you can use it on. While other places have stuff like "spend $25 and you'll get $5 credit" or something broad, TH only rewards people that drink traditional coffee as that's pretty much all you can use it on (and some food limited options that don't interest me as I eat breakfast at home).

So basically, if you hate regular coffee then the rewards system is worthless for you. No reason to have TimHortons anymore. If I buy 7 French Vanilla caps, I should be able to get a French Vanilla cap for free... Instead, I buy 7 French Vanillas and find myself suddenly not being able to buy one with my reward??

If FVs count towards the reward progress, why in the world wouldn't they count for reward redemption too....? No logic at all.

Frustrating

TimHortons is convenient but there are a major flaws. It gives you the option to order a bagel but that’s about it! I can’t choose if I want it toasted or extra toasted (which Is how I like it), it doesn’t give you an option for butter, and when I try to do plain cream cheese it tells me it’s not available. It doesn’t allow you to load money or pay from your phone until after you place an order ahead. Once I was able to load money I tried paying with TimHortons and they told me it wouldn’t work and didn’t even know how to work it. Why give the option if you can’t even use it? They need to rethink this whole thing! Part of the reason I would go to Starbucks was because of their app. I didn’t need my wallet and if for some reason I didn’t have my card or wallet I didn’t need it, i could add money whenever and I could pay with no problem.....

Working good now, install instructions needs improvement

Instruction sheet handed out by the local Tim Horton’s store gave better instructions and talking to an employee there. What is confusing is when setting up the account for TimHortons is you have to have the same email account on your phone to receive the email to activate TimHortons . Doing it from a computer it does not work. After talking to the employee at the store and adding another email account on my phone I got it to work and it is working good. Good update today adding the scan to the wallet!

TERRIBLY UNFRIENDLY!!

I hardly ever put a review but this merits a terrible review. TimHortons is “cludgy”and I have lost rewards both times through the workers taking rewards from an app that I’m supposed to be able to store my rewards on so obviously they think it’s bad too because they can’t figure it out. It’s not user-friendly, it’s disjointed to say the least. Starbucks has it down pat where the rewards and Starbucks card is tied together with TimHortons . Not this one! everything is a two or three step process. If the employee forgets anything or does it wrong, the customer is the loser not the company. Tim Hortons comes across as cheap unprofessional merchant. To solidify this. Try and contact them! Good luck. Try to send any feedback and you can’t see beyond a few characters what you’ve written. And if you go to amend or look at the text in the FB it closes the chat. Terrible terrible app. Tim Hortons wake up and smell the coffee!!!!

Menu items not the same

First I’d like to point out that whenever I order the Café Mocha through the drive thru I have to specify and pay an additional$.50 for whipped topping. But in TimHortons there is a Coffee Mocha and the image shows it has whipped topping but apparently it is included in the price which is $.50 less than ordering it in the drive thru. The other item(s) are the soups. I just tried to order the Spicy Thai Soup but TimHortons wouldn’t process it. So I switched it over to the Cream of Broccoli but when I arrived they didn’t have cream of broccoli and she mistakenly offered creamy potato. But come to find out she meant creamy tomato. But that wasn’t even an option on TimHortons . All I’d suggest is to make sure your menu items match your menu.

Can’t login

After opening TimHortons to check my balance, I was prompted to login. I entered my email and when I attempted to enter my password a message appeared and stated that I would be sent a link to my email. I’ve been waiting 2 months. I called the helpline and of course I couldn’t understand the rep. After 3 more calls I was able to explain the issue. They stated I would be contacted by the IT department. A month later still no contact and still not able to login. JUNK. Still waiting a week after this review. JUNK.

I received an email from the developer and tried to chat but like TimHortons , it didn’t work!

Ok, it finally works. Good job. I’m going to use it for a while before I give you 5 stars.

Deleting the app

Update 29Oct2021: trying TimHortons another time. Same problem. Can’t load gift card balance. No support. In the meantime, I have found other coffee that is just as good and they have a much better app to order.

I loaded TimHortons this morning. Tried to load a balance from an existing Tim’s card. Said number was not valid. It has $40+ USD. Called number on back of gift card...person said she couldn’t help me, had to use chat feature on website. Didn’t want to waste my time. In addition it’s confusing as to whether I need to be a registered user with a password or just kinda register with my email and phone number, but no password via TimHortons . Then I read the recent reviews. Oh my. Tim Hortons makes good coffee, but sure sounds like their execution on IT side is not good. Not worth any more of my time. I am deleting TimHortons .

By

Incomplete

TimHortons does not offer everything Tim Hortons offers. They show a breakfast sandwich as their icon but when you click on it that sandwich is not one of the options. You can’t order the multipacks of TimBits. The Map doesn’t always find me a location unless I am super close to a Tim Hortons. I can’t pre-order based on the time I want to pick it up like every other fast food or restaurant app that is out there. I really enjoy Tim Hortons food, but with being forced to go through the drive through to pick up my order (rather than be delivered to my car like McDonalds or Chick-fil-a) I have passed on Tim Hortons more because it just takes way too long and I have to order in person to get what I want. TimHortons could really take some pointers from Chick-fil-a and Chipotle and Dunkin Donuts.

By

Coupons never work

TimHortons is honestly pointless. The coupons are only good for mobile ordering, but even when you place a mobile order the discounts are not reflected in your cart nor after payment is completed. I have had to email customer service every time, and they keep giving me rewards points rather than my actual refund. Most recently I made a mobile order in order to use a coupon for a free donut but the store was out of stock of all of the donuts I ordered. There is nowhere in TimHortons to cancel an order so now I have to wait for customer service again. Also they seem to have removed the option to pay directly with a debit/credit card and now you have to load funds onto their Tim card which is a complete money grab and waste of time as well as being inconvenient.

By

Could be better

Love the selection and variety of options. Enjoy the rewards program, however do not like the way the new rewards are set up. Considering how much I spend (family of 6) on a single visit, I should receive far more than 10 points. And it’s definitely not worth placing multiple orders, because the orders have to be at least 30 minutes apart to qualify. Also, rewards are app based only now. No physical card. That’s quite a drastic assumption to believe every single person that may frequent a Tim Hortons has a smartphone. Rewards are not required by companies, so I will give 3 stars. However, if companies wish to gain & maintain customers they may want to reconsider their rewards approach.

By

Good Concept, Poor Execution

I love Tim Hortons and I have been a steady customer for years. With the new launch of their rewards program, I decided to give TimHortons a try. All in all, the only thing I’ve found TimHortons useful for is tracking my rewards card progress. The few times I’ve actually tried ordering ahead on TimHortons , I get to the drive thru and the workers either don’t have my order ready or are completely unprepared for my order and ask me to come inside the store. Furthermore, when I go to order an iced coffee the only flavor customizations I can choose from are hazelnut, and mocha. You would think there would be a drop down menu of all of the different flavors you can choose from, but unfortunately this isn’t the case. Overall, TimHortons did not live up to my expectations.

By

New user of the app

I HOPE TimHortons DESIGNER READS THIS BECAUSE I WANT TO HELP MAKE IT BETTER. I just got TimHortons and the card and I didn’t see the card until after I had purchased my coffee and I’ve got a ton of receipts from other Tim Horton orders. I just think it’d be helpful for TimHortons to be able to scan or add a receipt to the list. Maybe limit it to a week from purchase date. But at least capable of adding orders. Half the time I forget I have rewards cards to places and usually they can still add the purchase to the card so I get rewards. It'd be nice if yours could do the same. I think TimHortons would me more useful if there were exclusive benefits to TimHortons like off menu items only told to app holders

By

Great idea, but needs support for all menu items

I’d love to be able to reorder my standard 10 sour cream glazed Tim Bits, and my chosen dozen donuts. TimHortons is well laid out and responsive.

Unfortunately, the only Tim Bit option I seem to have is a multi-pack, and the donut selection is missing the raspberry filled frosted donut, not to mention many, many other flavors (eg canadian maple, maple glaze, vanilla cream, etc). I wouldn’t mind if it was just missing the seasonal things like pumpkin spice, but this is unfortunately useless to me as-is.

Here’s hoping for an update to add all the missing items! Alternatively as another reviewer pointed out, a simple notes box to write in the missing items would be a reasonable work around.

I didn’t get to the point of payment, but it would be great if Apple Pay was supported if it is not already. :-)

On a side note, after giving permission to use location to select my nearby store, it jumped straight to picking out items. I was expecting a confirmation of the location selected. As-is, I was nervous that one was automatically selected and I don’t know if it was the right one. However, as I mentioned I didn’t go past selecting items, so maybe that was handled later (but if so, why ask for location permissions up front?).

Not streamlined anymore

The Timmy app was perfect for making me aware of the amount in my account and the scan to pay aspect was much bigger. I wasn’t planning to pre-order when I’m going through drive-thru, so maybe I’m missing something. So, to me it’s a step backward for now—but I’m sure I’ll catch on. Right now, it’s snowing and windy and the tiny little scan bar is problematic.

By

Great app, few bugs!

We love TimHortons. We travel a lot so it makes finding a local Tim Hortons to order from SUPER easy. Love that you can use your Tim’s Card. Wish it gave you the option to add your Tim’s Card to your virtual wallet.

Have had a little trouble with the “buy 3, get 1 free”. The first time we tried to use it, it wouldn’t load the “order” page and give me a total. I tried and tried - by itself, with another tea, tried restarting my phone, etc. Finally, the Timmy’s we were at just gave us a free coffee anyway and we sat down. It’s worked since then though, don’t know what the problem was then.

By

Ease of life

-performance is all over the place some days it will work perfectly fine and others TimHortons will not even open up.
- The scan to pay rarely ever pops up to use and I would like a way to manually bring it up other then the bottom
-Quality of life improvements like customization are getting better but need more features and amounts to the flavor amounts that only go up to 3.
-Side notes are that putting calories counts on the drink you are ordering would make some people happy and letting them know that the sizes of your drink changes how many sweet flavor shots come in the drink to begin with.( a large comes with three pumps of ___ so two shots would be six pumps of it.)

By

bad.

this was my second time using TimHortons . i used it 6 months ago and it didn't work. i had hoped that they would have fixed the problems in TimHortons . but they DID NOT. first of all, TimHortons kept crashing as we were trying to place our order, extremely frustrating. then if we did get it to work, it had about only half of the items that were on the actual menu, so not a lot of options. also, when we got there, it said our order was ready, but in reality it wasn't and it only said we ordered 2 drinks when we ordered 4. we had to wait an extra amount of time to get what we ordered. and they still messed up our drinks. needless to say i will not be utilizing that app again.

By

Worthless app

I’ve now downloaded TimHortons three times hoping that the issues will have been resolved and they still aren’t. Every time I try to order on TimHortons , it allows me to put items in my cart. But when I try to proceed to checkout, TimHortons glitches and crashes. I’ve tried re-downloading TimHortons multiple times over the course of a week and it still crashes every time immediately when I press the check out button. So frustrating. Even worse, you can’t see any prices of the menu items. Presumably, you can see them when you’re checking out but since I can’t get that far, I can’t even use TimHortons to view menu items and prices. Therefore it’s absolutely worthless.

Have been playing Tims NHL Challenge since it came out. Noticed lately that I am not getting credit for the rewards for picks that were correct especially the last several occasions on Jan 27, 2024 and again on Jan 31, 2024. Apparently this has also happened to several of my friends on occasions. Its amazing that when you use reward point to purchase something how fast the points are reduced.

Lorne Kelly   6 months ago

I become extremely disappointed with the Tim Hortons app over the last week or two. Again as with previous days, you open the app and it just our glasses and then closes but doesn't give you any information or ability to use your points or collect the points. Whoever is managing and creating their apps has done a horrific job and is impacting Tim Hortons reputation in my humble opinion

Timcards are the worst giftcard i've ever gotten!! To make someone have to create an account just to use a lousy gift card is an obvious data grab. Why do you need my address, email, birthdate in order for me to use this un-useable gift card?? Ive been trying for over an hour to just be able to use this and i keep getting told that I have to go back to the store from where it was purchased. I got this crappy timcard as a gift about 3-5 years ago. Someone paid money for this and its un-useable due to t.h. policies. If its so important to activate/register a card at a particular store, dont you think it would be helpful to have the store name ON THE CARD?? i ONLY WANT ONE THING FROM TIM HORTONS...HOW DO I DEACTIVATE MY TIM HORTONS ACCOUNT? I dont want it...never did...and CERTAINLY dont want it if i cant use this timcard. PS...Why in hell would anyone have to register an already activated card?? More data. I dont think this is what is meant by transparency but this companies motivation behind timcarrrds and probably all other "promotions" is very see-thru to me.

Jason King   1 year ago

The app is so slow. It takes so long to load, to order and when trying to use scan and pay, you need to load it 10 minutes before arriving. And don't even think about trying to transfer a balance from a gift card. Reason 27 why Tim's is drying in Canada and will be replaced by Starbucks, McDs, Wendy's and A&W.

Irene S   1 year ago

This new app that TH has recently implemented is the absolute worst. It takes wayy too long it stalls, glitches freezes and is a pain in the a$$ to use. It's actually quicker to stand in line at the store when the line up is all the way backed up outside. I can't stand it. It wasn't broke, so why did you do this?? Get rid of it!!

Tracie Hunt   1 year ago

Do not use the App. My kids gave me TH gift cards for the holiday. I loaded the cards in my app and was able to use successfully until one day out of the blue the app demanded a sign on? Never seen this before. I was unable to navigate the sign on at 7:30 am. App would no longer open. I had too pay for my coffee. then two days later app opens and ALL of my balance from gift cards GONE. Im done...I will no longer be in your long early morning lines again. Shame on u TH.

Tim Horton"s app totally sucks. You can transfer your points over to another account. What does one do if one loses their phone and in the Tim's account they say you can change your phone number if need be but that ain't truth either, every time I try the Update button grey out. WORSE customer service

Abbi   1 year ago

the tim hortons app is terrible. you can only delete your account by contacting support, and when you email them it says the email address is unavailable. no items are ever available on the app, and some items when you click on them it just says 0 dollars and 0 calories, no options to select anything. and, trying to change your region does not work. there is an option to change it, however after leaving the page or refreshing the change reverted back no matter how many times I tried. the absolute worst app i've ever used.

This app is truly horrendous. This is my 3rd time using the app and the 3rd time I never got my order correctly. This time round, I never received 2 wraps and a Craveable. It arrived without the food. I called the Tim Hortons it came from and they said I was basically SOL and to contact head office. They said they told the driver to wait for the food and he "ran away" with just the drinks from the store. I complained to Tim Horton before about this at this same location, it took them forever to respond and they did nothing. I was supposed to get a credit in the store but that never happened. The Tims app uses DoorDash (maybe it should be called “DudeDashes”) as the store informed me. How totally wrong is this, I suppose that’s the trouble with franchises as they are never accountable. Due to using the Tims app, DoorDash washes there hands with the situation as well. My son accidentally used the app instead of using UBER. Please be aware people!

I have been trying to register a different Tim’s reward card than the one I had a decade ago. Apparently you have to jump through more hoops than you would see at an NBA game😒. It’s not worth it, there are lots of places to buy coffee.

When will I recieve my refund? This is getting ridiculous! I recieved someone else's order and have to chase you guys for a damn refund?!?!? Never using this service again!!!!!!!! You should be reported!

Armando stiletto   2 years ago

TH you continue to be so lame. Fancying yourself as some sort of cardboard coffee cup gourmet destination when you remain lost in your previous, pre foreign owned, Canadian identity when you really are confused about who you are and where you are going. Now you run the roll up the rim event exclusively to app users. The same users who are frustrated by your lame, problematic app. Pre app a consumer could pick up an old school tab by simply asking for one and without actually buying something. Shameful!!!

Julie Rizzo   2 years ago

This app is THE WORST! It NEVER works and the retail outlets just nonchalantly say "Oh, it didn't take off anything" and want full payment. I loved Tim Horton's before this app and was a frequent flyer, but after so many bad interactions because of the app, I rarely go there anymore. Every now and then I try it again, but to no avail. Good bye Tim Ho!

Tim Horton's app sucks especially the roll up app I have bought at least 1 coffee a day some up to 3 a day and only ever get 5 points I have won 1 free coffee after buying about 25 now so I buy 14 coffees to get one extra free one..... what a joke

Ordered delivery through the app. Delivery was messed up and a $6 item was missing. Open a complaint form that I found on the contact us tab in the app. Apparently Tim Hortons digital assistants Are nonexistent because I Never got an answer... opened another one a week later again explaining my problem and that I need a refund for 6$... no answer.. I opened another for 3 weeks after and here I am today... waisting time trying to get back my money 🤦‍♀️ Tim Hortons I was really expecting more from you.
