Do I add the fridge-cold eggs in the water and start heating as I start the timer? Or do I start the timer when I put in my eggs into the boiling water? Does the number of eggs matter? I need instruction please!

I always over cooked my eggs. I seriously gave up on hard and soft boiled eggs. My kids love them and so do I. We eat at them everyday , but it frustrated me so much that I either undercooked or overcooked them. One day I just thought...there has to be an app for this. Low and behold there was!
