Subscription

Subscription services are lucrative for developers, I guess. But, for the user I have to decide which apps to subscribe to (if any) and which ones I have to quit using because I can’t afford a subscription for every app I use. I don’t mind buying an app at all, but having to pay an annual fee is just beyond my means. And so, I will switch my "calculator" app to something else other than PowerOne because they, at some point, will go to the next version (x.x or y.x or whatever) and I will be left in the dust having to subscribe to keep up with the technology. If every developer ends up with subscription requirements I will just have to abandon my support for them all. How many $50, $20, $75, $20, $40, $20, $25 services can you afford? For me it’s not many and so I just stop using an app that thinks their product should charge me a monthly or annual fee to use it!! There are plenty of alternatives out there. The smart developer will appreciate their customer’s PURCHASE of an app and take into consideration that users will have to decide which apps to keep or which apps to abandon. The less used apps I have will be the first to go. And, PowerOne falls into that category as there are many alternatives that don’t require a subscription fee after purchase.

I’ve paid enough for the prior versions of PowerOnecalculator, remove ads. etc.

I’m done.

Only create one sample template?

The description does not make it clear that you only get one chance to create your own template in the free version. I created one blank template and then deleted it without doing anything with it. Now I cannot create a template. I have no idea if I would actually want to buy a subscription, but I sure won’t buy one just to find out if the templates feature is what I need.

PowerOnecalculator is now basically useless for what I need to do.

Edit: I do appreciate getting a response, but it was not actually helpful. As I mentioned in my review, I have already deleted the one template that I could create. It is gone. There is no template for me to edit.

My complaint is not that I cannot create multiple templates for free, it is that there is no warning in any description or documentation of that exact limit, and there is no warning that after I delete my one free template, I cannot create a new one.

Again, because I deleted the one free template, I cannot try out that feature any longer.

Downgrade

I WAS a longtime paid user until this latest downgrade. I want an easy to use calculator and this downgrade has this new obtuse interface plus they want a monthly subscription for a..... calculator. I support developers wanting to make money and am someone who doesn’t hesitate to pay for products/apps I use. That said, the interface and usability of this latest downgrade is so bad, there is no way I will pay, let alone pay a subscription for a.... calculator.

Sadly, I have deleted PowerOnecalculator I paid for and used for years.

Previous version stopped working.

I was happily using the previous version of PowerOnecalculator and very satisfied. I deleted it since it would no longer function on my phone and started to download the new app but read something about subscription fees and didn’t want to be part of a subscription service so I deleted the new version too. I think I may have paid a small one time fee for the previous version. I don’t mind a one time fee, if it’s reasonable, but I’m not a fan of subscriptions!

Previous version would have gotten 5 stars from me!

I hope I get a reply with some clarification about how this new version works and if it can be used without a subscription!?

I will rate a 3 star so I don’t unfairly ding the creator before I hear back from them.

Update.

Good to know about the calculator returning once you dig around to find out where you hid it. I’ve used your app since the early days, and while I know the templates are useful for particular users, I am not one of those. I simply expected your app to function as it has for years, not much to ask. Be a little less condescending in your next response and I may give back another star.

Very impressed

The new version of this calculator is very impressive. It has a lot of flexibilities added compared to the old version. The user can easily set the arrangement of the functions menu based on their needs. The program writing capabilities have also been made a lot more user friendly. I am glad that it now has the engineering format but unfortunately it is currently ignored when in programming mode.

Disappointed

Updated 9/23 - thanks for the quick response. My error not seeing the conversions initially. I did like the old version better but definitely still a usable and convenient app. Sorry for the initial rating.

I used to have PowerOnecalculator but lost it when I just purchased a new phone. Said app no longer available in App Store, even though I paid for the original. New version does not include the metric conversion tools…I am assuming if I pay $2.99 a month they may be in there, but I’ll never know because I’m not paying for something I already paid for.

The best!

I’ve used PowerOne calculator since I owned a Handspring Visor in the early 2000s. I was excited when PowerOne was ported to iOS and have been impressed and pleased with the evolution of PowerOnecalculator on iOS. I have to admit that I had to take a bit of time to get used to the changes in this version. However, as an old codger, I have come to realize that it is necessary to adapt to change. I think users will discover the power (no pun intended) of PowerOnecalculator as they use it. With templates, you can do virtually anything.

Fantastic application !!!

This is an outstanding application I’ve been using for many years. This update is the result of developers listening intently to the feedback provided to the users and implementing the changes suggested in a very quick succession. This is my go to calculator for work, my hobby (woodworking) and anything in between. Download it right away, use it frequently, consider adding Siri shortcuts for PowerOnecalculator, and you will not be disappointed!

Absolutely essential for any finance professional.

I have been a user since the Windows CE/ Palm days. PowerOnecalculator has been indispensable through my years as a finance professional. I paid $100ish for the first Win CE version, and would gladly pay again to ensure that PowerOnecalculator stays in development.

Also, I have always provided feedback, and will continue to do so.

For instance, I still find myself using V5. I just like that layout better for the standard calculator. The scroll bar at the top for custom functions should have multiple levels, as there is so much screen real estate to work with.

As a positive, the template implementation is better.

I know that any redesign is polarizing, and commend Elia and her team for continually working to improve PowerOnecalculator .

Best calculator and support

I have been using PowerOne for many years and absolutely love it. I am an electrical engineer and use it just about everyday. The customer service and support is exceptional. I had reverted back to an older version when an update did not have engineering display option. I sent in a suggestion to add it and received a response in 6 minutes that they would let me know when it was added back in. I received a follow up email when they added. Very impressive support. I like the RPN mode and the user definable keyboard is awesome. Thank you for your support and developing a great calculator.

Great app

I’ve been using PowerOne for many years now. I was in need of a good RPN calculator and liked their version 4 design. So I took a good look at the rest of PowerOnecalculator and discovered the templates. What a discovery it turned out to be too. I’ve spent a lot of time and money on programmable calculators over the years and never found any that worked out. Until now, PowerOne is the definition of programmable, customizable what ever you want to call it. It’s just a lot fun to play around with and when you are done playing you have a powerful tool with you. It is too bad PowerOne is stuck in the calculator section of PowerOnecalculator Store. It’s so much more than just a calculator. Although it does have a great calculator. However that’s just a small part of what PowerOne really is.

In Version 6 they brought back Version 4’s interface which was very easy to use and Version 6 is a lot easier to program than Version 4 was, so now we have the best of both versions.

I never had a problem with the login. Because I know what I’m getting in return. Things only a login can provide, syncing across all my devices, and a web based editor. Plus there are things coming in future versions I don’t even know about yet.

Pricing, I don’t understand how you can make money at a 1 time 5 dollar fee. It turns out you can’t. So if we want to keep using PowerOne the developer needs to get paid. The complainers have no idea of what they have. I do, and I’m willing to pay for it.

This is my go-to calculator

Like many others I have using Power One since the Palm. When I’m using a Windows machine I use their old windows version which still works great.

The new iPad rewrite has some nice enhancements to the prior version. I’ve used many other calc apps and this one is my favorite.

One other thing the Power One offers that few can match is great support. These folks are great.

The best keeps getting Better!

I great app is only as good as the people behind it. The developer has always been a good listener to what the client needs are and built PowerOnecalculator to address the issues. I’ve been a user since the PalmOS days and can’t imagine using another solution for calculations. Thanks for listening and making our lives easier!

Still the best!

I am also a client/user since the PalmPilot days. This new version, despite having some drawbacks, like having to sign on (as many people have pointed out), layout changes, unable to reorganize templates as one would wish, and other minor interface issues, I firmly believe this is still the best analytical/computational application available. I like the ability to sync across platforms and be able to use on my desktop. I also appreciate them keeping the old version around, since that is my preferred app and will use it until my phone no longer supports it.

Great app. Amazing support.

I ran into an issue where I did something wrong in PowerOnecalculator to access my account. I emailed the developer and got a response so quickly and it resolved my problem immediately.

PowerOnecalculator is fantastic, I’ve wasted money on apps dedicated to do what only 1 template in PowerOnecalculator does (e.g. lease analysis), when I should have just gone with PowerOnecalculator.

Great app! Always making it better... but... there’s the minus “-“ quirk

This is by far the best calculator app there is. Plus the versatility. But, there are always few little things and bugs to squash. There is an annoying thing about how it works after a result shows, if you press the “+” or the “*”, “/“ it will, obviously, invoque the “last” result plus the new operator pressed and it will let you continue with the operation, as expected, but if you press the “-“ it won’t apply that to the “last” but will start as a new operation. The other thing is that when you open a menu it constantly changes its height to accommodate the content. It cool, but it annoys the eye, but in this case, maybe it is just me. But trust me, this is the one and only calculator to have!

Love PowerOne!

I feel this is the best financial (and other) calculator there is. The simplicity of use can’t be beat. I use the Time Value of Money the most, frankly. Running calculations while deciding on investments is invaluable to me. I also use the Revolving Debt and General Loan calculators a lot. I honestly use this calculator almost everyday.

Responsive developers, powerful app

App is great for automating repetitive calculations. Perfect for use in the field - avoids having to bring data back to a computer in order to enter and manipulate it. Developers responded quickly and helpfully to a feature request and bug report.

Incredible product

I’ve been using the PowerOne calculator for many years (maybe 10). It’s the best calculator I’ve ever seen on a mobile device. I used to own an HP-18B and thought nothing could beat it. Well, PowerOne does. Moreover, the developer is incredibly interested in and responsive to feedback.
