Like the product it represents, RecordSearchlight is more garbage from Gannett. Clunky, poorly designed and prone to freeze ups, it is right on par with its namesake third-rate news product. The sign-in process has always been lousy. Now it won’t get past the user name before freezing. Yep, you have to pay outlandish prices to access the news product and then its app won’t let you do that. Typical Gannett/Gatehouse Media.

Three times Ive attempted using RecordSearchlight for a digital subscription over the last few years. Every time my password doesn’t work. I change it. It still doesn’t work. I then have to get Customer Support help.
It seems that the security preventing unauthorized use of the Record Searchlight is Extremely successful but customer access is extremely difficult. Apparently I have a unreasonable expectation that my payment should authorize me.

Hate the format - want to see it like I can on our computer which opens up like a newspaper & can go from page tp page. RecordSearchlight doesn’t have the page w/weather, earthquakes, lake levels etc. irate RecordSearchlight as 0 stars

I used to be able to read a print version of paper on my phone. Now it has changed and I can only read summaries of stories from paper. Once I sign on I cannot read whole paper.

For the last couple of months I have had nothing but trouble with the print edition app. It freezes all the time. I have deleted and reinstalled several times. Are you ever going to make this work correctly?

If you’re looking to move to iOS 14 and have RecordSearchlight work...don’t. Since updating RecordSearchlight crashes every single time. Uninstalled and reinstalled with no change. App needs updating.

I grew up in Northern California. Siskiyou and Shasta counties. Moved away years ago but an article with Shasta Lake or a photo of Mt. Shasta will always get my attention. RecordSearchlight/newspaper helps me feel like less of a stranger.

I downgraded RecordSearchlight for 2 reasons. 1) targeting cookies cannot be turned off. 2) I cannot cancel the subscription from RecordSearchlight .

I enjoy the print edition more, but for a quick update this is ok.
For two months the print edition did not load all the way and I was unable to read it. Three times I tried to redo RecordSearchlight , waited 12 minutes or more on the phone to talk to someone and eventually gave up. Finally RecordSearchlight is working and I’m able to enjoy it. Also, due to my failing eyesight the audio is a welcome asset.

Sell ads rather than try to force an app purchase by cutting your stories off. Newspaper is already dead, don’t shoot your self in the foot.

I don't really care for the new design of the website. I enjoyed opening it up and seeing some of the headlines pop out..

Keeps me informed with news on new businesses, the homeless, drug addicts, bums and escalating crime in Redding and immediate area. Sad as the area can be beautiful if not for the above.

I did start paying for a subscription. I feel there are to many “on page” ads however. If I am paying monthly to read this, on screen ads should be at a minimum. Also, each article should have an email address of the article’s author. Most readers don’t use Twitter. I also would like to see articles with a more conservative bias. The articles in general need to original, simultaneously not repeating liberal talking points that seam to permeate the mainstream media these days. Other than that, I am enjoying the local paper.

This is a great local newspaper, I really appreciate the alerts.

It's a good app if you live in Redding. Always room for improvements though!

Way to keep in touch from afar -- especially local sports

It's to be able to log on so quickly and get the info i want.

I love being kept up to date on our area and all of the alerts of what is happening.

Old app was way more user friendly and way too many adds. Highly disappointed but it is getting better

I get the Searchlight every day but I really enjoy the new app. It keeps me up-to-date on things that are happening especially with current breaking news on local items. So I enjoyed reading both the newspaper and RecordSearchlight .

This bad experience will not go away. It will not let me sign in.

Constant issues trying to view.

Great way to read the paper enjoy reading it long time subscriber when I lived in Shasta lake city Bad point is you won't let us sign up on RecordSearchlight to pay for a membership or sub sub scription for the paper per month instead we have to call your office and you leave us on hold

RecordSearchlight seems to work much better than the previous version. I can smoothly navigate through the features and absolutely love the night time ability.
