Over the years I’ve used VBANReceptor off and on with multiple iPhone models and multiple pc’s. After all that time I’ve come to finally delete it as it causes massive battery drain and heat buildup on my phone, even when paused and not streaming anything. My upgraded 2300mh battery tanks in half a day just sitting on my desk not streaming anything with the screen off and gets warm to the touch. Multiple pause/play, forced restarts or manual turn off and reboot, forced closing VBANReceptor and turning off background play, nothing helps. As soon as I deleted VBANReceptor that problem instantly vanished.
I’m also a little annoyed that it doesn’t use the built-in iOS audio engine so you can’t play/pause the stream from the lock screen or from the control center if you want to hear something else on your phone real quick.
And the last thing, I’m really annoyed at how unstable the stream is. I always thought it was down to my bad WiFi setup in the past in combination with a failing computer. Not only have I tried this on multiple networks over the years but I now have enterprise-level network gear and just built a new powerful computer and VBANReceptor still can’t reliably handle a 100k/sec audio stream in real time without the ‘overrun’ and ‘underrun’ signals showing packet loss and the audio degrading into an inaudible mess.
Oh and don’t even think about using Bluetooth headphones with VBANReceptor. Even if you somehow managed to get them to work (it glitched once when a call came in and got routed to my headset) the audio gets so distorted it’s unlistenable.
Overall I really wanted to like VBANReceptor. To be able to use my phone as temporary portable speakers for a computer I only have headphones plugged into was awesome, when VBANReceptor worked. But the battery issue alone is enough for me to stay away from it, let alone the other issues I’ve had repeatedly for as many years as this apps been available across 3+ networks, pc’s and iPhones shows this is not an isolated incident and never getting resolved.
