Not worth the money

I regret purchasing the premium version after having answered all the free questions. Far too often the questions are vague and multiple answers can be correct. Most of the questions on the actual CompTIA exam provide more details and fewer choices that are red herrings. I was really hoping this mobile app would help me pass, but it often left me frustrated.

Not even close to what’s on the actual exam

I see a lot of positive reviews about PocketPrepCompTIASecurity but unsure if they’re from users who passed or not. I purchased the ultimate edition and must say I’m disappointed. I took and passed the live exam and used PocketPrepCompTIASecurity maybe once a week. My primary sources were Darril Gibson and Professor Messer. I would Highly encourage anyone to read his book and purchase his premium content. Most of the questions on PocketPrepCompTIASecurity aren’t even covered in the Comptia objectives! The live exam will mostly consist of scenario based questions, not factual based as they are in here. I’ll give them this, PocketPrepCompTIASecurity is good for brute force memorization but again, that’s about it.

Lastly, I found that most of the questions and answers were completely irrelevant and not covered In the objectives. It’s more of a nice to know but not necessary. Please don’t waste your money on this! Save yourself some gas money and use the free edition which is useless as well.

Pretty good prep for Sec+

I write questions for the SEC+, CEH, CISSP, CASP, CCFP, CCNA and some others so I know good questions when I see them.

It’s also easy to see that questions are recycled from other exams, which isn’t a bad problem but it distracts from what is actually on the Sec+ exam.

Some of the questions’ answers are incorrect but for the most part, they’re on target.

They’re well-written and we’ll-composes questions with minimal errors in grammar and punctuation.

The questions are simplistic and explanations don’t go into much detail. No big deal there.

PocketPrepCompTIASecurity and web portal interfaces are pleasant and nicely-presented.

Overall, they have a good system of app, web portal, questions and exam setup process so I’m satisfied with my purchase of ultimate version.

**** Update after Exam: Failed the exam by 3 points after repeated study of the 500 Sec+ Questions.

They don’t seem to honor their money back guarantee because they don’t respond to their support email.

Do not make in app purchase

For one, they won’t refund your money. Additionally, PocketPrepCompTIASecurity and the “500” questions are largely useless. The questions are poorly written by someone who obviously had a very surface level comprehension of cyber security. I have helped developed the cyber curriculum for the US Military and also have a degree in cyber operations. PocketPrepCompTIASecurity will not assist you in the exam.

To the developer: your “tireless hours” working on these questions were worthless. Fire whoever wrote them. Some of them are actually not just poorly written, but wrong.

A bit frustrated

This review is for both PocketPrepCompTIASecurity and the online version. Overall, I am fine with the set of questions and the answers. PocketPrepCompTIASecurity alone isn’t going to get you to pass the exam, especially if you don’t have plenty of real life experience in the field. I’ve been frustrated with PocketPrepCompTIASecurity and the online version. A while back, I even reached out via PocketPrepCompTIASecurity but no one got back to me. For the online version, over and over, when selecting a subject sometimes I am able to test on all available questions but other times I can only do 62. I know for a fact that 2.0 has 100 questions so where is the 62 coming from? I tried 3.0 this morning and I could only test 50 questions but now I am able to do all 100. I don’t see the logic. For the mobile app - I often use it on metro and I am convinced that the scoring is off at times maybe when signal cuts off and certain answers aren’t registered/ captured? The high score I would get wasn’t indicative of all the questions I was missing.

A mess

PocketPrepCompTIASecurity is a mess. There’s a high probability of the presence of a bug that keeps reverting the system to a free app state there by erasing all study progress without any option of retrieving paid user data. Very disappointing and frustrating as I will always have to start all over from scratch. The developers need to fix this bug as soon as possible. Until then I give it 2 stars.

Mostly bad

PocketPrepCompTIASecurity has good metrics about what domains you’ve done better/worse on in practice exams. Beyond that it’s not very good. I’m hesitant to use it for prep for these reasons: 1) The “explanations” are lifted from one reference. There is little context and no information about incorrect options. 2) Along the same lines, some questions excerpted from the reference text seem specific to that author’s wording and aren’t validated by other study resources. 3) A few answers are flat-out wrong.

For beginners ONLY

PocketPrepCompTIASecurity covers definitions of terms. If you already have some knowledge about the vocabulary for security+, it won’t be much help to you. The questions test your understanding of what the terms mean, but not how to apply them.

The questions provided are all much simpler than ANY of those in the actual exam. It’s partially my fault for buying the premium version before trying out the 30 questions provided, but the misunderstanding could have easily been avoided had the description provided been accurate. PocketPrepCompTIASecurity is presented as if it’s a way to test your readiness for the exam. It is not. I’m not really sure why there’s a money back guarantee if you fail the certification, because PocketPrepCompTIASecurity can not possibly provide you with the knowledge to pass. It’s got a great user interface and works flawlessly compared to similar apps, but the questions need serious work.

In short, DO NOT rely on PocketPrepCompTIASecurity to gauge your knowledge for the certification. Only use it if you’re a total beginner to familiarize yourself with vocabulary. For all others, I recommend Darril Gibson’s GCGA app.

Do NOT use this app as a main study engine

I am very disappointed with the questions on PocketPrepCompTIASecurity. The 4 star review on PocketPrepCompTIASecurity befuddles me because I truly and objectively think it does not merit such a rating.

I would argue that almost 25% of the questions on PocketPrepCompTIASecurity have NOTHING to do with the actual exam. For example, PocketPrepCompTIASecurity asks you all the different classes of fire extinguisher classes (A-K) and asks you all the different steps of the SDLC and what number each step is (that’s not directly tied to IT Security!).

I foolishly wasted so much time on this study engine thinking it was legit. It’s absolutely not! If you want real study material and preparation for the exam, spend your money on a book. Buy Darril Gibson or watch professor Messer videos (free). Those sources are excellent study materials. PocketPrepCompTIASecurity deserves to be in the bin. I strongly recommend to not spend the $15 on it as it will be a waste of your money and, more importantly, your time.

Should be used as a supplement ONLY!

The easy to use interface and convenience of PocketPrepCompTIASecurity is what attracted me to buy the full version. However, after taking the security+ test today, I quickly realized that none of the questions on the actual test are setup like the questions in PocketPrepCompTIASecurity . They are all scenario based and a couple performance based. So do not solely rely on PocketPrepCompTIASecurity as it does not prep you for the 90% scenario based questions on the actual test.

I would suggest doing it old school and cracking open one of the security+ books.

Good Preparation Tool for the Exam, but out of scope

The questions in PocketPrepCompTIASecurity pull from other study resources available like professor messor. As a result a lot of the questions available tend to be out of scope, thugs givong you an innacurate representation of what you know come exam day. Other than that, PocketPrepCompTIASecurity is great for learning and retaining information, but i wouldn’t solely rely on this for the exam.

It’s OK

I haven’t tested yet but I have passed Net+, and I’ve used many test prep softwares, so I am familiar with how hard the real test is. Most of these questions seem too easy. I’m using PocketPrepCompTIASecurity to get a good overview and then using ExamCram (highly highly recommend) book and test prep software to really get ready. I’d be very surprised if PocketPrepCompTIASecurity alone got someone to pass. Questions just seem too easy.

Lasted update breaks app - Updated

Happily used this for weeks until the latest patch. The patch resulted in lost credentials and an inability for PocketPrepCompTIASecurity to run on my iPhone unless loading directly from PocketPrepCompTIASecurity Store using the “Open” option. Won’t save my credentials and keeps reporting that I am on the free version - not the premium version that I had been using pre update. Restore purchase doesn’t fix the issue, nor does a phone reboot.

It appears that the issue resolved itself within a couple of days. I can’t now recreate the problem so I don’t know it it was the application or phone - but neither was updated prior to the issue being resolved.

PocketPrepCompTIASecurity performs as expected and was a very useful tool in my personal experience.

I used the daily question as well as the quick 10 questions (at least once a day). PocketPrepCompTIASecurity then kept a calculation covering each area of the exam and my overall correct percentage for each topic. I could then use those indicators to determine where to focus my studies.

Wonderful and affordable

This (along with other forms of studying) gave me the confidence to pass my exam. Obviously, you shouldn’t use this as your ONLY study method, but PocketPrepCompTIASecurity helped me a lot when it came down to practicing the material learned. Loved that I could use it on my laptop as well. Thanks for making PocketPrepCompTIASecurity, really, thank you!

Good app on the Go

PocketPrepCompTIASecurity is good to use when on the go, but definitely not something you want to solely rely on. Great for supplementing with other test prep, it has tons of questions and keeps good metrics on progress. I passed on my exam on the 1st attempt using PocketPrepCompTIASecurity, and tons of other resources. Also hey, The money back guarantee is a good assurance, that’s what got me to buy the full version. Good luck !

I really enjoy this :)

I love this! It should not be used as your only reference, but it provides you the ability to do quick quizzes where ever you have time. It can help you solidify some of the core concepts. Good luck to everyone:)! P.S. Even after completing the test I still use PocketPrepCompTIASecurity for quick review during down time.

Use this as a stepping stone, not as your official readiness metrics

I’ve been using PocketPrepCompTIASecurity for previous certifications. It has been working great for me. Great app to help you solidify test objectives definition before moving on to exam-like practices offered by Dion on Udemy. These help but the exam is much harder than the questions on pocket prep.

Passed!

After my first failed attempt, I decided to purchase PocketPrep Security+ to help go over areas I was weak in. After consistently scoring in the mid 80s, I went for my test and passed on my second attempt! To anyone who is studying for the Security+, this will help you in areas you are weak in. I highly recommend reading a book and taking as many pretests as you can.

Best Study App Ever

I was able to pass Sec+ by studying 24/7. No matter where I went I had practice questions with me and it was worth paying extra for the enormous question bank they have. Thank you for these! Side note: would really appreciate a CompTIA CySA+ study guide PLEASE!

Pocket Prep

PocketPrepCompTIASecurity is amazing. You can study at anytime on your mobile device. I’ve learned so much and I finally feel prepared to to take my exams!
