Almost Perfect, 5 Stars Anyway

I have been looking for an encrypted and easy-to-use messenger as a longtime disappointed user of iMessages/Signal/WhatsApp. Let’s see what this app does amazingly:

1) Encrypted with no extra steps
2) Requires no identifying information to create a profile
3) Works on multiple devices seamlessly
4) Easy and fun to use
5) BONUS: built-in crypto wallet to as a nice replacement for venmo/zelle and introduction to crypto for newbies!
6) other neat features: cloud storage up to 250gb, git repos, big teams (slack-like messenger for FREE), bot integrations, the list goes on...

What can be improved:
1) sluggish, but i assume it’s because of the encryption/decryption steps
2) race for good usernames and cannot change usernames afterwards

The only app i feel even completes close to this space is Status Encrypted Messenger, but it has high hurdles because of ultra-anonymous nature and account seeds being improperly stored/lost.

I love Keybase and I’m a little sad that the dev team was picked up my Zoom, but I hope this product continues to become better and better.
Crypto for everyone!

Missing key feature -very true

The team system is very limited and the namespace is not tied to an account. It is global and once deleted, they are gone forever. So it’s going to be a land race to get all the team names you can before others. Additional, team names are limited to 16 characters. It almost feels like I’m living back in the 1980’s. Some commands only work on the terminal, which means the “crypto for everyone” really means for everyone who is an super user, engineer or IT person. In the first 20 mins of use, I had to google instructions to understand how or if some was possible. Buttons/icons don’t support hover. I think it’s a good start, but needs work to be more user friendly. The team system needs a complete rewrite.

Lovely app, one hugely annoying bug

I use Keybase every single day and it’s mostly greet. It lacks some of the polish and super convenient gestures that Slack offers, but that’s a fine trade off for the security this app offers. My biggest frustration is the fact that big team channels, in the mobile apps (not just iOS here) seem to cap the conversation at the last 20 messages or so. Works fine on desktop, and works fine on normal team chats, it’s just a bug on those big team subchannels. Please, for the love of god, fix this!

iPad chat needs more work

I am glad we finally have an iPad app instead of trying to use the cramped iPhone interface on the bigger screen. However, this feels more like a repackaged iPhone app than a proper iPad app. The chat is still unusable with an external keyboard. When you press return it enters a new line instead of sending the message. Compare this to literally any other chat application on iPadOS and you can see why this is a deal-breaker.

Amazing app - bad bug on Monterey M1

Best app for team comunication. Absolutely love it. GitHub integration is excellent. So much better than Slack.

There is a REALLY bad bug on M1 computers that causes the launcher to no longer open applications. Have tested repeatedly a variety of apps and their extentions and it's for sure this app.

Absolutely love Keybase (and) we are mid-cycle crunch on an app so hope they fix this quickly. Highly recommend, just want if your'e on M1 for update.

great app — ipad version would be greatly appreciated

Love the security of Keybase and would like to be able to use on my ipad. An ipad optimized version of Keybase would be ideal but at the very least, being able to put Keybase in landscape mode would suffice.

Not sure what 1 star reviews are about

I have no idea what these 1 star reviews are about. I’ve used this app on mobile and desktop for multiple years now and I have nothing negative to say about it.

My family even uses this now for group communication after seeing the actions taken by Twitter, Facebook, Discord, etc....

Real security

Sure some features here could be a bit cleaner or better, but this is encryption and security first, everything else second. It has a little bit of a learning curve, and "Teams" are still being worked out (but really are fine), but take the time to learn because encryption is a necessity these days.

Great In Every Way

There’s so many things you can do with Keybase I don’t even know where to begin, yes it’s a messenger, yes they actually gave away crypto for a few months, teams can share files. heck, I use it mostly just the same password for one device to the other

Every Day

Keybase is a staple in my every day workflow, two of my offices use it to keep in contact over projects and support tickets. There is room for improvement in the mobile apps however this app overall is one of the most useful apps I've ever downloaded. Chat, free Dropbox storage, encrypted git, teams, stellar, and more

It’s Good but Lacking Community

I enjoyed the storage, premise, and UI design, but the team did not focus on community building and user acquisition. I don’t think it’s worth joining, because not enough friends and contacts will join too. Also the team moved to Zoom so they may or may not work on it some more. Maybe it’s useful for PGP encrypt/decrypt and sending the raw strings back and forth? Oh well.

Fully Featured but Sluggish

This application has all the features you’d expect from this app. But the entire application feels really sluggish and slow at times. The amount of times I have to force quit the application because I can’t switch views or a specific part of the application isn’t functioning properly is insane. Users can tell the difference between native apps and hybrid apps. This application would be perfect if it was a native app with a bit more polish...

Keybase ?

Read an infomercial that users of this app would receive a free XLM airdrop. This is what brought this app to my attention. Before this infomercial, I had never heard of this secure Texting app. Read on Coinbase today, that December 13 would be the last airdrop because of spammers and fake profiles. One would wonder, not being fake, what happened to the airdrops? Maybe fake advertising? Or something else.

Update: Down to 2 Stars. See no response from developers for these reviews.

Still no ipad support :(

I actually really like this app on both desktop and iPhone, but for some reason there is no love for the iPad.

What’s interesting is if you look at the codebase 98% of the work is already there. They just need some core devs and UI folks to ensure that the UX for iPad gives folks what they expect for something that sits between iPhone and Desktop experiences.

Not suer why this isn’t getting a higher priority, but it is a bummer.
To be fair, they aren’t the only ones: Signal hasn’t ported to iPad either.

With iPadOS and the iPad Pro, though, I’m increasingly looking to push my work onto this device and I hope they find some bandwidth to give the iPad version of Keybase some love.

Good but slow and lacks iPad app

I really like Keybase , however initial message communication is slow and doesn’t tell the user what’s going on, a spinning wheel would even be better than nothing which the connection is being made. Also, Keybase could set itself apart from Signal by adding a native iPad app... I would even be willing to pay for that!

Embedded Messages/Threds

this app is alright and does the job. BUT it’s is SO inefficient when massage threads can’t be started. It clogs up messaging boards and makes it difficult to track what people are referring to. It would be very helpful if people could start message threads within channels (like a sub thread/tweet style. Refer to Slack on how to do this well). Thanks!

iPad app any time soon?

Like like concept of this app and some of the inventive ways that crypto is implemented. Decent phone app ... but still no iPad app?! What’s the hold up? In today’s app ecosystem I can’t give higher than 3 stars for a product that still doesn’t have both iOS platforms covered. Judging by the feedback here, an iPad app would skyrocket user adoption. Just sayin’!

This app is absolutely amazing

Keybase is freakin awesome I just hope there comes for more social media platforms to be added to track. The twitter Reddit and GitHub feature is fantastic, I hope they add other platforms like .locals, Parler, Minds, Gab and Mastadon. Great app! Will donate!

Privacy is important

These guys have cracked the privacy problem - chat with friends (regardless of their OS/platform) securely! Teams feature is great. As others have mentioned it would be nice to have a native iPad app but I’m sure they are working on it.

This is my favorite app, you guys.

Thanks this app, you guys are the best.
Is there an option to give extra stars?
Glad to have found a secure communication/storage space, like hidden treasure on Keybase store.

By

Good but missing a couple features

I wish I could turn off email notifications and replace them with in app notifications.

I wish there was an iPad app.

By

Outstanding!

Outstanding network that is powerful, safe, secure, well designed, very useful, and user-friendly. I LOVE it and can’t wait for more people to discover it and begin using it...

Terrible account recovery options

I changed my phone and now I don’t have access to my account only because Reset is temporary disabled? How do you expect people trust your services when you just disable reset function in your service. Sorry but I can’t trust a company that disable account recovery.

Love to see where this is headed

Looking forward to keeping track of where this app goes. Very compelling. Would love to see an iPad app.

3 stars at best with no iPad app nor chat in Safari

We try to use this for chat but the iPad is a key for us and Keybase doesn’t have an iPad version (it’s really just an iPhone app). A lot of us use the iPad for communication (typically w/a keyboard attached).

Great, but needs iPad support

This is great but you really need iPad Support.
I use an iPad Pro 11” 2018 with the Smart Keyboard. So my iPad is almost always in landscape mode. You really need to make Keybase work as well on an iPad (in both orientations ) as it does on an iPhone.

O ya, Thanks for the free Lumens!!
