I didn’t have it for too long because I couldn’t find how to use it. There’s no tutorial and I can’t understand how to use the guitar and drum set. I also can’t upload audio and for some reason anytime I tried to edit a video it created a new copy which is really stupid because when you edit something like a background noise out you generally don’t want to keep the original. That’s the point of editing. I might have missed something but there’s no way for me to learn the stupid controls (all 5 of them!) I might re-download MusicMemos if I can figure out what the heck I’m supposed to do with it but I would rate it 0 stars if I could because that’s how much I was able to accomplish on it. I guess 1 star makes more sense because of the hour of time I wasted on it and how long I used it before deleting it. MusicMemos is literally just voice memos except they think that because they can detect pitch they’re totally different. I personally think it’s complete garbage and it’s really hard to describe it without cussing.
What a great app!..... when it first came out.

What a great idea! Too bad apple gave up on it. I get that they are too busy trying to sell XR’s but this was a great and useful tool at one point. I dropped every other voice memo app to use this. It was so handy to record, edit, notate, and organize all my songs and ideas. Then one day I would hit record and it would not respond. Hit the record button again, it would record and stop after one second. Hmm. Then it kept happening. It became a part of my work flow. Hit record, it records a one second blip that I delete then second go it would start recording. Then the end of 2017 came along and the new fancy iPhone X came out. It’s 2019 and they app still isn’t optimized for the display. I guess I should export all of my songs and ideas out before MusicMemos won’t open. Please apple, update MusicMemos or at least stop letting it on “best music app” showcases on MusicMemos Store home page.
App frozen! Can’t access my recordings!!!

MusicMemos is really cool and I love using it! But I am really panicking right now. I’ve been using it for about 6 month and I’ve never had an issue until now. I just got the iPhone XS Max and I backed up all my data from my old phone including music memos and moved everything to the new phone. But now I think I just lost all the work I did in it. MusicMemos will load but it just freezes and sometimes it will let me view my library and I can see that my recordings are there but MusicMemos is just frozen and won’t let me listen to them nor open them to export them. I tried restarting my phone and force quitting MusicMemos . Only thing left to do is delete it and reinstall but I’m afraid that will definitely delete all the recordings. I’m sad MusicMemos is unusable now but I’m really freaking out about losing my recordings! Please fix this ASAP!
Do not use this app.

I absolutely loved MusicMemos when it came out. I used it for every piano and guitar idea that popped into my mind. I had around 100 ideas on this thing and one day it stopped working entirely. It would load the start screen and freeze. After hours and hours of tech support no one was able to get any answers or any help retrieving my now lost song ideas. MusicMemos looks great and is genuinely a great idea, but it’s not worth the risk. Voice memos works absolutely fine and has never lost me any ideas. Beyond that, voice memos actually stores its files in your iTunes so if it were to mess up you’d have a backup. Even with iCloud turned on I have no way to get my song ideas back. It has absolutely earned 1 out of 5 stars. I will never use MusicMemos again.
Every time I open MusicMemos it doesn't register my first press of the record button. I wait and try to press again, then it does this glitchy press and then unrecord. Then I have to delete a 1 second clip.
Also, I will do a PERFECT take of something just nailing it and then I name it and MusicMemos freezes. I can't do anything and I try to wait. I resort to having to close app and the song disappears. I don't even know why I trust it to keep coming back to MusicMemos. It's so buggy.
I can't even listen to any of my old songs!!! There's no point in recording in MusicMemos. They all just say "updating" all the time. Even if it is updating to the cloud, why would you make the entire library inaccessible ?
I also get a message popping up saying I don't have enough space on my phone so everything will be stored to the cloud. But I have like 90GB free on my phone and only 100 or less music memos. So they are 1GB a piece for 2 minutes of a acoustic guitar? No.
By the way I'm on a brand new iPhone X. It's been having these problems for the last 6 updates of MusicMemos. Nothing has been fixed.
Great idea, but bugs make it nearly unusable

I really wanted to like MusicMemos due to its simple and elegant interface and good sound quality, however, there are too many unacceptable bugs to make it reliable for a working musician. I use MusicMemos in both an iPhone and iPad, both last generation and the experience is consistent. I have also been using MusicMemos since its inception and no updates have addressed the issues.
Firstly, yes, it takes MusicMemos 5-10 seconds just to load the waveform image, and you have to wait until that happens to listen back. The longer you record, the longer it takes for this to happen. If you delete and re-record more than 2 or 3 times in a row, MusicMemos will either freeze or stop deleting and recording anything new. It appears to delete and record successfully, but when you play it back, it continues to show and play the last take. Also, it will sometimes stop audio capture (or playback, not sure which one) mid take, despite showing a waveform. I find myself having to restart MusicMemos , but I usually just stop using after a while to stop wasting time. I have deleted and re-downloaded MusicMemos several times.
If you need a recording app for practicing where deleting and retaking is a must, MusicMemos is simply unusable. It is clear Apple has not allocated enough resources to properly test and debug it.
Need to be great again...

OK so I am a musician and songwriter who relies on this software as it is very easy to use and simple. It has very useful features such as autostart in which it starts recording when it hears sound. Do you additional instruments my drums and bass are very useful as well as you can see how the song might sound with other live instruments.
MusicMemos would be great if it actually worked. There is a lot of waiting and delays when I try to go to my sound library where all my demos and ideas have been recorded. Is very laggy. Before iOS 10 it was working marvelously but now it lags too much and is a pain to use.
Please fix the lag and the delays when trying to switch features. Make it smooth.
Mostly love!

This is a great app to use to capture an idea quickly, then get inspiration for baselines and grooves using the automatic accompaniment. However, though the chord analysis is often wildly inaccurate unless you’re using root position major or minor chords (one star down), the most frustrating part about this is the iCloud refresh. If you are out somewhere with poor cellular reception, the recordings are unavailable until they refresh (or update) which means that you have no access to your ideas until you’re back in a good place for WiFi or cellular. There’s no option to turn off cellular data for background refresh or an option to update only over WiFi. Seems like that would be an easy fix, but I’m no developer. Anyway, despite those pretty significant frustrations, MusicMemos has definitely given me more warm fuzzies for its inspiration that frown lines from its quirks.

super clean app easy, intuitive. ive been recording on iphones since my 3G and have more than 10 different apps, including multi-tracking apps and this is the easiest to use and most functional in its ability to share to various places.
the one thing missing (from all of these types of apps..) is the ability to Play All... after a nite of recording 10-12 different ideas from :30 to 30:00, it'd be wonderful to just play them all, rather than one looping over and over - to be able to create a playlist would be even more over the top! and then export that playlist to the cloud as mp3! holy smokes...
I'm so happy that this kind of app exists, but there are a lot of features that could be added or tweaked. First off, why is there no way to share memos? I can't email them to myself, I can't put them on my library or text them or anything. It's annoying. Regular memos have this, why doesn't Music Memos?
The tagging feature is a great way to organize tracks, but it doesn't work as well as it could. You still have to search for the specific tag you want, why can't I look at a list of tags, and click on the different tags to show all the tracks that I've tagged as that. Like a kinda folder situation. It would just make it much easier to get around.
Also why does it take so long to start up. Whe I want to record, I want to record. And when I go to try to listen to something I record a long time ago, half the tracks say "updating". Updating what???
Anyway, cool app, some great features, but needs some work. Love you.
A few gripes from a daily user

This is a fantastic app. There are a few issues that could use some work however. A lot of other reviewers talk about the lag of it and that is pretty major. It seems to take a bit for MusicMemos to "update" the waveform view. This at least provides user feedback however. When I tap the blue record button sometimes nothing happens. I guess MusicMemos is initializing the microphone or something. You have to wait until you see the incoming sound circles emanating from the button for it to be ready to record, which is not immediately obvious. I also wish that it would handle the iPhone's power saving features better. Sometimes exporting a track will be interrupted by the phone going to sleep which seems to interrupt the process, forcing the user to start again. That or you have to tap the screen to keep the phone awake, but remember not to tap the cancellation "x". Again, this is a fantastic app. I use it every day to send song ideas to band mates. There are missing features that might be useful, but adding too much stuff runs the risk of bloating it.
This app is amazing. But there still are some bugs. Even as a voiceover user, I see them.

As the title clearly states, there are still some bugs in MusicMemos . It’s automatically opening my ideas, and it shouldn’t be. However, I still like it, and it still usable, however, there are some people that are still saying that there are some bugs in it. And I do agree. The opening the idea automatically, is one of them. And while I do agree with someone else that adding reverb, and other effects to hear sound quality instrument, is great. Sometimes, during this experience, do you have does crash every once in a while. But, hopefully the next update will fix this. Keep continuing to do updates, and I look forward to seeing them. As the bugs get squashed, maybe a lot of us will continue to use MusicMemos a little more. I am a music fan nonetheless, and I am trying to write songs myself.
Of course MusicMemos has crashes, but that was not what I meant. I meant, MusicMemos sometimes crashes. Just figured I would receive that a little bit because of me using dictation as a blind man.

Prior to using MusicMemos i was using the voice memos because i didn't know about MusicMemos. When I found out about MusicMemos I was eager to give it a try. I grabbed my fender hellcat and played a riff I've been playing for quite some time. I loved how it automatically added bass and drums to the riff. I thought that was the fullest extent of MusicMemos until I went to share a musical idea. When I saw that you can upload this directly to GarageBand I was overjoyed. I love how the drummer and bass player also get transferred to GarageBand. What I would like to see is a section where you can basically tab your song manually because MusicMemos doesn’t always get the chord right other then that MusicMemos rocks 🎸
I've been waiting for an app like this

I used to use the voice memos app for all my random on-the-spot ideas, but it was never easy to sort through or export. Just the fact that MusicMemos keeps the simplicity of being able to just hit record and go, while giving me tagging and export options is more than enough for me. The drums and bass features are pretty gimmicky, and the note/chord detection is okay, but since MusicMemos hits a home run on the rest, and those features don't get in the way, I still say MusicMemos is a huge success.
This is so worth any dollar amount for the creativity that it puts out. I can’t believe the recording quality. If I Record on my phone and take it to my car with a bigger bass system and play the bass and drums in time it sounds like I recorded with the full band. That is the best. And im not Just saying this because me and my daughter recorded a really good song on it tonight. I’ve had it for about 2 months now. The only Change would be sometimes being able to fire the bass player and drummer that would be great. Wink wink.
