4.5 out of 5
Dash diet spanish ads

I really like MyDashDiet but gave it 1 star because of the pop-up ads that cannot be closed. These ads are in Spanish. Repeatedly tapping the “x” in upper corners has no effect in closing the ad. The only way to get back to MyDashDiet screen is to leave MyDashDiet and not return until hours later. That doesn’t work for me. Therefore, I need to use a different app in which I can close the ads.

Kind of clunky

**Update for others who have complained about the ads freezing up MyDashDiet . My 15-year-old daughter showed me how to close MyDashDiet down basically on my iPhone swipe up and close it. When you close it it will go back into the dash diet screen. Hope they fix the issue with the ads. Because it’s still pretty annoying.
Not super happy with MyDashDiet. The ads popping up on the screen all the time actually make it difficult to use because I can’t figure out how to close the ads out and get back to MyDashDiet . Also I wish there was a way to save foods so I could more quickly track foods that I eat almost every day. I also wish there was a way to edit a food and move it from one day to the next if you put it on the wrong day. Also when you open up MyDashDiet it doesn’t automatically go to the day that is current it just kind of is where you left it it could be the previous day or some other day.

DISAPPOINTED

I was excited about an app based on DASH, since I follow that diet, and want to stay on track. When MyDashDiet works, it’s great, but every day I’ve used it there have been issues that waste time and have made me decide not to use it any more.

First, there are videos advertising health related products that pop up arbitrarily, are very annoying, and take me by surprise.

More important, and the ultimate deal breaker, though, is after spending time loading information I’ll discover some was arbitrarily deleted or changed. For example, after putting data in regarding my weight, I scrolled up and it went from 119 pounds to 362 pounds. I didn’t do that, but there it was. Yesterday and today I discovered entries I’d made for several meals were deleted. I don’t know why this happens but I don’t have time or patience for it. Very disappointed.

Not intuitive

It looked like this was going to be a perfect app for controlling my diet. Unfortunately, it doesn’t seem very intuitive and I can’t find any help files or tutorials in MyDashDiet or on the website. The website doesn’t seem to be anything more than a marketing page. I sent an inquiry through the contact page but never got a response. I’m not willing to spend hours trying to figure out MyDashDiet by trial and error. I feel that an app should have some level of instructions, especially if you expect to charge for it.

Ads don’t let go!

Those ads they have keep going and going for ever and when an “x” does come up to cancel the dang thing, you can’t activate it!!!

So Frustrating!! I guess I’ll just stick to my My Fitness Pal app. Not as good, but it doesn’t make me want to hurl the phone across the room!

COULD BE SO MUCH BETTER, but it works

First of all, I upgraded to premium. For a one time flat fee, it was worth it. The adds were so annoying, and compromised the integrity of MyDashDiet . I’ve used food trackers before with good success, but now I’m having to track sodium intake for hypertension, and following the DASH Diet. Think this is probably my best option for a simple nutrient/sodium tracker. But am missing things other apps are better at. Three things I wish they’d improve on: 1) good direction on how to navigate/use MyDashDiet . Some things, like creating my own recipe, are not intuitive. I’ve reached out for help but no response. Eventually I figured it out. And more often I find a workaround. 2) improve on barcode scanner. Several times I’ve scanned and a SIMILAR food item has come up, but not the actual brand I scanned. And always the nutrient values are off. And I end up creating a food. 3) sometimes the numbers just don’t add up for a meal or a day. So knowing this I’m having to check and double check. Sometimes delete and re-enter. Very annoying. Bottom line, COULD BE SO MUCH BETTER, but it works.

Cannot edit yesterday’s menu

When I try to edit yesterday’s menu, MyDashDiet shuts down. When I tried to report the problem, it wants an email app that I don’t use, and the link is broken on the apstore. My husband didn’t eat all his dinner, and I didn’t edit the menu yesterday, and it won’t let me edit it.

Looks great but...

I downloaded MyDashDiet for my Mother who has congestive heart failure and needs to track her sodium. The category for age stops at 80. She is 90. If I use MyDashDiet at age 80, I don't think it will align with her dietary needs. Would be great if you extended the age limit. 😉

Manual Entires

I don’t like that I can’t take a picture of a piece of food and get the calculation for it. I’ve added MyDashDiet to my mom’s phone for her to track her food. For example…half of a banana. My mom and I don’t know the nutrient numbers to enter manually. Please fix.

Great but limited

It’s very helpful but unless you buy the barcode app you will continue to get pop up’s. It does not remember what you are previously like a WW app so you have to re-enter each time and it will not log in certain things like wine which I think is important to the full picture.

Good not great

Needed app to track the sodium. Does track the carbs, calories, and fat too which is great. Food search feature is good. Barcode scanner does not work well at all only picks up 1 out of 5 different barcodes. This leads to a less than stellar food database. Which makes it that much harder to track your sodium intake as it’s very frustrating to enter foods that you cannot find as it’s time consuming. Hopefully the database will improve with more users and updates

Just ok

First, MyDashDiet does what it says. I cannot dispute that it meets its mission. But there are issues. The look is way too crowded, making navigation difficult. Putting all meals on one screen, plus grafts, charts, search box … poor design. The scrolling selection for servings/sizes is positioned too close to the screen edge, causing frequent switching of the screen. The above can be overlooked, but there is a major flaw. It seems most of the data is user entered. MANY are far from accurate. This is unacceptable as users must guess (or Google) for accurate sodium, calorie, and fat content. Further, there is no breakdown of sat vs unsat vs trans fats. This is a major shortcoming. I paid for the premium version before realizing the inaccurate data. Don’t waste the $9.99.

Update: a recent change is causing significant lags in the logging features. I’ve been using MyDashDiet daily for almost a year now. It just keeps getting worse. Does anyone know if a good alternative?

Good app; hard to read

I like MyDashDiet. I tried every dash diet app out there, and this one is the best! I love the tracking tools. They’re very easy to use. My only critique is that the letters are way too small, and way too faint, making it hard to read. If you could fix that issue, you’ll get a five star review from me.

Very helpful app

I like MyDashDiet and purchased the premium subscription. My problem is that you don’t allow people to set the Doctor’s ordered sodium target. All you give is either 1500 or 2300 grams per/day. My Doctor has me on a 2000 grams per/day sodium allowance. We should be able to set whatever level of sodium that we need. Otherwise I really like MyDashDiet so far and look forward to many days of use.

Helps but needs improvement.

Could benefit from adding fiber tracking and a more open barcode scan library.

Love this app!!!

I was recently told by my dr that I needed to go on a low sodium diet. I was trying to figure it out when I came across MyDashDiet. It does everything for you. So easy to use!!

Needed to track sodium

Health emergency and needed a way to track intake. MyDashDiet is excellent. You can scan barcodes on foods and the info pops up. Also quite the database of your favorite restaurants.

Easy to use. Been perfect.

Best App for DASH diet help

Makes it so easy to see how and what you need to do with your goals to lower salt intake and lose weight. Incredibly helpful. So thankful for MyDashDiet!

This one works!

Maybe it’s the easy interface. Or the ease of entering each item of food. Or using the barcode reader option. Or the fact that I get sodium levels. Whatever the reason, I’ve logged in every meal (except two) in the last three weeks.
And best of all- my blood pressure numbers are in a happier place.

Perfect for low sodium diet

Started using app to track sodium - it’s so easy that I am now using it as my daily food log.
