Sporadically app cannot tell if the phone is in portrait or landscape mode while recording. Also, it stops functioning after all the memory is used up. This is obvious, Until you realize that I have it set at 3 GB max with loop videos at 2 minutes. Why would it be short of space when it should be deleting the older videos? This doesn't make any sense. Furthermore, the den feature is all out of whack. Sometimes it works sometimes it doesn't and I cannot make any sense of any of it

See for yourself. I have a new iPhone 11 with the latest iOS update. The footage is comparable to 360p at best! I never even tried it in my car, just holding the phone in hand and trying to read a license plate from 15+ feet is impossible! This was simply useless. Also, my phone has full AT&T LTE service so there should be no issues. Tried on my wife’s phone and everything was the exact same...I’d love to hear from the developer about this. Of course I made sure the camera lens is free of smudges/fingerprints. It’s also not a focus issue, as you can see the auto focus going through different focal points, all of which are blurry to REALLY BLURRY. It’s very evident SmartDashCam is optimized for 360p recording or equivalent. Gave 2 stars instead of 1 because technically you can still use it as a dashcam, even though you won’t be able to see any details at all past 10 feet.

I am using Iphone x Max. The Camera Quality is really bad. I tried focusing, reseting, etc Doesn’t improve. You can barely see the license plate of the vehicle in front of you(it doest focus good enough for the Street names to be visible. Very Blurry. ) another issue is my phone gets sooo hot, its scary. I will stop using SmartDashCam until all the issues gets fixed. Not to mention the shakiness of the camera. Once you accidentally look at your phone while driving (being mounted on the vehicle) you get dizzy. Lol very Distracting.

Camera recording is fine, sometimes the loop won’t save properly, and the speed is always off. The speed on SmartDashCam says I’m going 54 when my car’s GPS speedometer (which is correct and has been reset just in case) says I’m only going 49-50. It may not seem like much but if there ever were an accident, that’s one thing they would be looking for. I have also tested speed on different speedometer apps which all show the correct speed +\- 1.

Functionality wise this is great. Im using it on an iPhone 6 and it records and stores, stops at Red lights, etc just fine. Took it on a 36 hour road trip and got tonnes of footage. However, now I'm stuck as to how to offload the said footage! First off, there's no select all button! I mean come on! Secondly, most reliable way of getting the footage to my computer I found is via Google upload, so each file has to be selected, uploaded, and re-downloaded, not to mention uploads stop midway all the time! There's gotta be a way to have iTunes read the stored video and transfer straight to PC! Pls fix that if you can, though of course it's asking a lot cause it's a free app, but it would be perfect then!

SmartDashCam is not bad for short trips. I was able to record a lot of close calls during my morning and evening commute without issue. My big problem is the heat. I’m using an iPhone se that has no other apps running off of a fresh restart and the phone overheats within the hour drive to work. When recording videos normally I find no heat similar to this coming from the phone. It’s a shame, great app and concept, poor execution on power and cpu consumption.

I installed the free app just prior to returning to New York from Florida. SmartDashCam is relatively easy to use has a very good screen definition ....installed on a iPhone 6. There were two drawbacks first one froze several times. Needed to close SmartDashCam and restart it. Annoying but it worked. Second issue the phone ran very warm. Don’t know why but I’ve read other reviews identifying the same issues. I am concerned if it would damage my phone over long-term use. For that reason I only gave it three stars if it ran cool I would’ve given it a five star rating

This is a great APP. I some feedback:

The map in one of my video appear only for a few seconds. It did record via the camera but for some reason the map only appeared for about 30 seconds of a 20min video.

I would like to see the ability to mute and unmute the microphone while SmartDashCam is recording.

I would like to see the ability to flip the camera while SmartDashCam is recording OR have the ability to record both cameras on the iPhone at the same time.

I would like to see the ability to adjust the map resolution for the purposes of recording the map overlay.

Everything work great with SmartDashCam.
The only thing I notice is that the speed that is shown on SmartDashCam is 10 mph over my actual speed. This seem to only happen when I am fwy speeds. If I am doing 50, app says I am doing 60. Focusing is a bit problematic as well. It will focus on my dash board rather than the street, so I have to tap the screen to re-focus on a car.

Really convenient app to save evidence especially with all these reckless drivers nowadays. You can play music while SmartDashCam is running, only thing I think would make SmartDashCam better is the gps on SmartDashCam is kind of blurry/hard to see I wish it was more vibrant so I could see where I’m supposed to go, but other than that pretty reliable app that’s wayyy cheaper than buying a 100$+ dash cam.

This dash cam app works very well. I love all the updates but there is one feature that has been removed. Before an update, the dash app used to record in the background while using a GPS app. After an update, it no longer does this. It stops recording when I switch over to the GPS app. Sometimes I need to have the GPS on-screen but still want the dash app recording in the background. Now it just stops recording when I have the GPS on-screen. Having this feature back would be great and would rate 5 stars if it did.

Thank you for SmartDashCam, I have wanted a dash cam for some time but the money it costs is prohibitive... don’t think this is the place to give feedback for changes but I’m not sure where to put it, so I’ll place it here...
one change i would suggest is an option to record from both cameras simultaneously... allowing an interaction with police to be recorded if I am accused of something like not wearing a seatbelt or something then the camera will show what happened

It’s a good app don’t get me wrong it records it saves it helped me a few times with people stupid driving but the only issue I keeping having is SmartDashCam either crashes or lags to the point it stays recording but not recording it would say 1:35 but it will stay like that for like a fat min but otherwise I had moments where it records from point a to point b without a problem so it’s a really good app don’t get me wrong just the only issue is the lags and crashes

Understanding the limitations of ios, I cannot fault SmartDashCam for not being able to record in the background/auto start on charge. This would solve the battery consumption issue.

Otherwise, it works well, with the exception of orientation. If you are already moving and open SmartDashCam , orientation sticks in landscape. If there was a small time delay to allow the orientation to change before recording starts, it may solve this issue.

SmartDashCam is wonderful and has everything you could ever need in a dash cam, all except for one thing. I think it would perfect if there were also an option for dual mode recording, where it utilizes both the front and rear cameras on your device to record inside the cabin as well as outside the vehicle. Hopefully if any developer reads this they will take this suggestion into consideration. Other than that though, would definitely recommend.

I usually do not purchase apps because you know, I’m a poor college student (cliche but true.) but I bought this one without hesitation. SmartDashCam is FANTASTIC!! I downloaded the free version yesterday that I was on a road trip. After using the free version for 5 hours on the road, I reviewed the video quality, the map accuracy, sound quality, speed accuracy, and everything was just right. Though I could have still used the free version just fine, I decided to buy it to support the developers. Great job guys keep it up!!

SmartDashCam is stellar! The full version is fantastic! This speedometer on the screen while you’re driving and recording is large enough to read, you can also set speed limit alerts. The loop recording is perfect. Also a great way to repurpose an old phone if you’re upgrading so long as you have iOS capability and all you have to download and place on dashboard no need to buy expensive dash cams and go through complicated wiring. Fantastic work DashCam team and thank you for this wonderful app.

Side note - I have captured some incredible sunrises and sunsets from my Dash Cam as well.

I use this on my 2016 Wrangler with a Rugged Ridge dash mount and it works great. I thought there was a problem with it at first because it would fill up the 1 gig space I had allotted. Turns out that if you have “lock video on impact” turned on in settings, and have a low impact setting, every bump and jolt will lock the video loop and start another. When you use up the space you have allotted, the oldest videos will not automatically delete, as they should, because they have been “locked due to impact”. I just turned “lock on impact” off entirely and have had zero issues since.

Ive been using for a few days and so far this is the best app. I setup a dedicated iPhone SE and deleted all the apps except SmartDashCam. Everytime i got into my car I pressed power button and SmartDashCam started auto-recording which is great. Samething a single press to turn the phone to sleep mode and stop recording. You can login iCloud and it will enable GPS even without a SIMcard. I can track it using other phone. For the footage, you can always send to other phone via AirDrop. SmartDashCam needs Select All button to delete or to send to other devices. Latest build also enables 1080p live recording.

I never write reviews so doing this means that it really gave me a great impression. I had been searching for a wireless dash cams and have not been successful in finding one that can be recharged. SmartDashCam gives you all the functionality of a Dash Cam and you can still use your phone to Bluetooth music in your car. Although recording stops if you take a phone call, I don’t have a problem with that and at least I don’t need a separate piece of equipment to hardwire to my vehicle. there are a lott good features even with the standard version but I think I’ll upgrade pretty soon.
