I was looking for an alternative to CoC before it went downhill to diversify my game time. It took me a while to start enjoying the game. Despite the drama about the developers, I enjoy it very much. I also enjoy the events that open as you gain exp levels. I have spent some money on the game and thought it was worthwhile. Overall it is a good game you can plan solitary although I recommend you join a guild to help with experience points and other loot. More than 2 years later, I still enjoy this game. New content and new hero's help keep the excitement going. Join a guild to experience everything. On year 3 of playing, still my go-to game for events and activity, I enjoy it and I play with a great group of adults from around the world.

At this point, the game has been out for so long that you will literally have no opportunity to be a top player in game. All other reviews are mostly accurate that the best players all pay hundreds of dollars, if not more. You can play free and still acquire decent heroes and skins, but the length of time it takes to complete will be maybe like 6-12 months depending on your dedication to get one skin. This game was indeed a lot more fun and competitive several years ago before skins, before artifacts etc. But if you start now, you’ll be so far behind the curve that you’ll need to spend a ton of money on gems just to get your team level up. I still play every day but it has become a lot more of a grind and feels more like work than fun these days. Also feels honestly like there is too much of a focus on releasing new heroes and new game content frequently than refining what already exists. There is no need to have new heroes every month. You could instead offer something to help customize current heroes or something that requires a level of skill to play. If you want a game to quietly grind and play out a story on your own, this will work. If your competitive and want to pvp others and be the best, most likely will not happen without an absurd amount of real life money. I’m level 109 for reference.

The good - Hero’s Charge is an interesting and dynamic game. It has casual PvP meaning while you fight other players, you don’t lose much (e.g. there’s no griefing or camping of players). When someone raids you, you basically lose a small part of what you were gathering/farming so there’s a benefit for raiding others but you never get crippled like some games. While you can spend a lot of money if you want, the game doesn’t feel like you are crippled if you don’t. The devs seem to be adding tweaks and new features to the game (although related to monetization in many cases). The bad - The game is essentially dying because as servers fill up, and people can’t join them but get sent to new ones. As players leave the game (stop playing) others can’t join, and the number of active players there just declines - while many types of raiding are cross server, guild and server level quests and activities don’t so it becomes next to impossible to complete guild activities. If the publishers would clean out stale account records (or discount them from server caps) this problem would go away. In theory you can migrate to servers but only to older ones (which are presumably full). There is very little info from the devs on these capabilities. If you are looking for casual fun, it’s a great game but by the time you get intellectually invested, you will likely hit a wall and become frustrated.

The game is alright, though it gets tedious to level up. It’s definitely a pay to win game and compared to others I’ve played, this one is FAR more expensive for what you get. It seems the developers are quite greedy, too. The game is super glitchy at times, and every interaction with customer service to try and get things rectified when not receiving rewards is that they can’t do anything, or their records don’t match what you say, even if you have screenshots showing what you should have received. I’m in an active guild and hear complaints almost weekly of being charged multiple times and the uncool support saying it’s all Apple’s or Google’s fault. I still play simply to reach a goal I set for myself in game, but I will no longer pay any money to greedy devs with poor customer support for an often glitchy game. I want others to know before they start....if I knew then what I know now, I would have moved on to another game like Marvel Strike Force or Age of Magic. Both have similar formats to this game. AoM can be played completely free if you want...it just takes longer than if you spend money from time to time.
