3.4 out of 5
Extensive setup, minimal performance

Team bought hudl sideline, works 20% of the time and the setup is way too complicated, would recommend another product.

Does not work half the time

Plays do not show up on the iPad like they are supposed to. We check the signal strength and that does not seem to matter if it is on 100 or not. Have not had a game this season where we were able to use the Hudl Sideline for 4 quarters. I would not waste your team's money

?

App crashes every time I open it.

Rough season

It is a helpful tool for coaches when it operates as advertised. The system has been temperamental. So far this season it hasn’t worked for a hole game yet. Tech support is good but parts delivery is slow. Have had many problems not on the help guides. Crossing my fingers for the next games results

Scrubbing on iPhone

I give apps that service coaches/athletes/educators a lot of leeway so I’ve held on off on this review, but the lack of improvement to HudlSideline over the past year (or more) is disappointing. My number one complaint of HudlSideline (I won’t address the Sideline hardware, which is fairly unimpressive itself), is the video scrubbing. On iPhones for sure, and on some iPads it is almost impossible to fast forward or rewind through plays like a coach wants to do. It is either impossible to grab the slider button to scrub through the video. On both iPhones and iPads when you grab this slider HudlSideline either doesn’t recognize your touch, initiates the feature to show your running apps (iPhone 10 and later) or your Control Center (iOS devices with home button)(in both cases the phone is registering you swiping up), or switches you to your previously used apps. It is so frustrating in-game to constantly mess with this. It’s disappointing that this would happen on the most commonly used devices, and not have the issues ironed out after consecutive seasons.

Other issues I don’t like.
-Users can only set ODK while the film is running. I would like to be able to set it in between shots.
-In the absence of the previous point, it would be nice to be able to edit the ODK play type.
-Other sideline replay software allows you to enter much more data with each play. Down, distance, LOS, gain, loss, player, etc. It’s crazy that this company which seemingly has the HS video market cornered has not made these functions available. Couldn’t Hudl’s tagging a game and Sideline functions be combined? I’m sure it’s not easy, but it has to be doable.
-better error coding and trouble shooting that point users to solutions

Good tool but...

Great tool (when it works)! But what about in-app play labeling, not just flagging? For me, it gets very confusing when trying to remember which play was which that I flagged--takes precious time on the sidelines away.

Queued?

Is there a way to make sure clips are downloading when filmed and not sitting in queued depending on what view is being watched?

Great to use

Has been great for our football team use on game nights. One of the best things I like about HudlSideline is that it is a Hudl product. It integrates very well with our Hudl system that we purchased already. After the game we are able to upload the sideline and Endzone we captured and they are automatically intercut. This can save you a lot of time and hassle trying than trying to use another product and trying to bring it into Hudl. What we found out that helps out the most is that you have the most up-to-date iPads on both ends especially the one up in the box. We have the premium version and we have been fortunate not to have any major issues. I would highly recommend this to any football team looking to get film and get it sent down to the sidelines for the players and coaches to review. The livestream feature we get up in the press box can also be beneficial for coaches to use presnap.

Absolutely Top Notch Support

We’re a small sized HS. The technology works “as advertised” and gives us a major coaching advantage.

However, what makes this system “go” is Hudl’s 24x7 tech support staff.

I have yet to have talked with any Hudl person, day or night, during a game, after hours, anytime, who is not expert on their hardware & software, patient, clear - really professional. I’ve placed lots of calls, and come away well informed, with the issue solved each time.

They are better than best-in-class, by a wide margin.

I’m not won over easily. Hudl people have earned these accolades.

100% improvement over 2016 season.

2017 season Hudl sideline was flawless. We never had an issue and every game worked. I highly recommend it and wouldn’t coach with out it. Love every aspect of it and saves time uploading because I no longer have to intercut myself.

Works great!

Last year was a little sketchy with sideline coverage but this year it has been rock solid. Replays are downloaded within seconds of the play being over. We are a Plus customer so we get both the sideline and end zone views right away on our iPads in the box and on the field. I don’t know what we would do without it!
