Forget it

While I love the USB connected version on my Mac, the iPad version is just terrible, and the instructions on setting up are impenetrable.

Total garbage app

I bought this remote/focus stacker app a few years ago to use on my iPhone and a Nikon D7100. It has linked up to WiFi once or twice. So I haven’t used it since 2017.

Now in 2021 I thought I would try again with my Nikon D500 and iPhone 8 running the latest iOS. And again, no connection at all.

And to add insult to injury. Tried to contact the company from their web page. And guess what? Yep! That won’t work either. What a waste of $50.

Crashes on iPhone 11 Pro

It won’t open.

Does not work MOST OF THE TIME

I’ve had HeliconRemote “work” before, yes, and it’s great when it does. But note that you should absolutely never expect it to work, this way it’s a crazy surprise when it actually does, like you won the lottery while being struck by lightning AND enduring a shark attack in shallow water. Not the best odds, but you better get out of the water I guess, because IF that lightning strikes, look out (because when this stupid app does work it’s amazing)

Not compatible

App claims to be compatible with the Nikon D7100. It does not recognize it. Don’t waste your money.

Useless app

Completely unable to connect HeliconRemote to my Canon T7i. I went through the connect process, the camera goes into live view, but the Helicon app says the camera isn’t connected and then drops the connection.

The Helicon website offers no insight, except to say that HeliconRemote supports T7i.

I will remember this when I buy my stacking software

Cannot connect to my Nikon D5300

Connects to nikon DMU app easily. Helicon remote simply does not connect. I'm missing something simple but still a Goose egg.

watch out!!

I tried this with my old Canon 7D and it bricked the camera! Now it won't turn on with an "Error 70", and Magic Lantern logs a crash report about an invalid value that could only have been set when I tried connecting the camera to HeliconRemote . Be very careful before you plug in!!

iOS 14 issue with Helicon Remote?

App worked as expected prior to latest iOS update. I use 2 mobile devices (one at a time depending upon project). One device accepts the registration but cannot connect to the camera. The second device says my registration is expired. Both worked fine prior to the iOS update.

Does not support Sony with iPhone

So iOS app only supports WiFi, and Helicon Sony support does not include WiFi support. So bit of a bust for me.

Needs a UI update for X models

I love HeliconRemote on my iPad but it is unusable on the Xs. You CANNOT click the menu button on the top right of the screen. I don’t know if they put it too far over or what but it is in an untouchable area on X models. I can’t get to any of the settings on my phone thanks to this. Please update guys!!!!

No longer works

Updated HeliconRemote and is now just a blank screen. Running iOS 15.2. May as well delete. Worthless.

Canon camera Not Connecting

I think features in app is good but I have problem with adding camera, I try using my Canon 5D MkII with WFT, HeliconRemote show my Camera but can’t connect ... All my devices have latest firmware!

Great App… Wi-Fi connectivity issues

Great tool for focus stacking! Works well …. when working. Has difficulty staying connected, or even connecting, to Wi-Fi on my iOS devices. Fortunately it now can be teathered to the iOS devices, but would be nice to have the Wi-Fi working properly.

Wanted to love this.

App is a little slow when shooting with my Nikon D600, plus one thing not mentioned when I downloaded (and spent $60+ on a wu-1b) HeliconRemote is that you need to buy the pro version to use a lot of the settings, like raw and bracketing. I was ok with this but there no light meter and “live” view doesn’t show what the photo will be exposed like. So for me it just didn’t work, love the idea of it and if they add a light meter and make it run faster I would buy it again.

Works as described

Works with compatible WIFI cameras

You won’t be disappointed

All you need to do to get a great stack is follow the camera setup instructions!

Remote Photography

I use the Helicon Remote on a Nikon D850 to photograph Hummingbirds wirelessly and it works perfectly.
You can set your camera to silent mode and not disturb the birds, the burst feature works well. I have not used the stacking feature as yet.

excellent

All the facility for remote shooting including burst, stacking and bracketing. It works very nicely and, when compared to hardware that does no more than trigger the shutter and provide an intervalometer, the premium price is not too bad. HeliconRemote puts complete control including live view on the screen of my mini ipad.

At least one person complains it is difficult to connect HeliconRemote and camera. What might be overlooked is that HeliconRemote itself does not make the connection to the camera. First, the wifi connection must be made between camera and ipad or phone. It is a network setup matter. Once that connection is made, HeliconRemote will recognize and connect itself to the camera. You will be very frustrated if you expect HeliconRemote to set up the wifi LAN between ipad or phone and the camera. It won’t because it can’t.
