Decent app aside from the fact that you only can keep a 7 day log w the free version. It removes past days to stay at 7, so kind of pointless if you’re trying to keep track of what you eat over a period of time for health reasons. And I can’t imagine any food app being worth $5.99 a month but esp not this one. I understand people might want to pay for extras but you should at least be able to do the very basics w the free version (save your meals w/o losing them. That’s the point of FoodDiarySeeHowYouEatLog and the only reason I downloaded.) Won’t keep using it because it removes the days I’ve filled in anyway. FoodDiarySeeHowYouEatLog also doesn’t work great w the iphone x. Trying to save a new eating time is impssible - would NOT be worth it to pay. Wish there was a similar app for free. (Lowering my rating because developer response didn’t address any of my points lol).
The free version of FoodDiarySeeHowYouEatLog has too many limitations to be useful for serious tracking. You can only edit meals for the current day, meaning if you forget to log something from a previous day, you’re out of luck. Additionally, you can only view your 7-day history, which makes it hard to get a good picture of your eating habits over time.
On top of that, FoodDiarySeeHowYouEatLog is extremely spammy, constantly bombarding you with pop-ups to upgrade to the paid version, which gets frustrating fast.
The only features I did like were the ability to add extra photos and the timestamping of entries, but honestly, those perks aren’t worth the hassle. I’m switching to a spreadsheet for more flexibility!
Loved the visual diary & “tips” section as a bit of daily inspiration, but it maxed out at 4 weeks despite it having a dedicated button in the dock? I didn’t realize I had been using the paid version, and when it expired FoodDiarySeeHowYouEatLog is pretty lame. I thought I was on the free version and I still thought the UI was poor (the best part is the photo grid). I hate only having 91 days of history. I don’t understand the available plans in apples settings view, there’s like 3 different monthly and yearly options from “diary” to “journaling” and they’re too vague to know what I’d actually pay for. The free version is also INCREDIBLY annoying about buying the paid version, which is a turn off in itself.
I’d give the paid version 3.5 stars for being my favorite style of food diary with crummy execution. The extras are confusing to me if they’re paid or not, the UI just generally looks like a scam website or fishing email. It needs regular spacing and more of the nice photography it used very sparsely.
I had high expectations for FoodDiarySeeHowYouEatLog since it’s the focus of a health and fitness FB group I’m apart of and many people in the group have raved about it.
Everyone in the group uses FoodDiarySeeHowYouEatLog to share what they ate for the day but for some reason FoodDiarySeeHowYouEatLog won’t let me share to FB. When I try to share I get a pop-up saying “There are no FB accounts configured. You can add or create a FB in settings.” I have spent about 2hours trying to figure out how to link my FB to FoodDiarySeeHowYouEatLog with no such luck. I have tried everything I know and have even tried to ask for help from other app users and no one can figure it out. I can’t even find a help link on FoodDiarySeeHowYouEatLog or their website. I’m so beyond frustrated with FoodDiarySeeHowYouEatLog and the lack of guidance that It’s not worth my effort anymore. It’s time to start looking for something better. Don’t waist you time FoodDiarySeeHowYouEatLog or $ on their “Couch” version either as I have heard it’s just as frustrating and not worth the price.
I have to give FoodDiarySeeHowYouEatLog the three stars because it’s been so helpful to me. Just taking that picture before I eat makes me much more mindful.
That said, I’ve been using the paid version for two months and the premium features just aren’t worth it. to me. It’s a pain to upload data every six days, and the pdf it creates is arranged with the most recent date at the top, which drives me crazy. It also doesn’t save more than a small snippet of my daily notes. What a disappointment! For this price, I’d expect it to save ALL my information, including the meal-level notes and information. No such luck, sadly.
Since I found myself usually using the phone’s regular camera and saving to my gallery anyway (to adjust image quality since you can’t do that in FoodDiarySeeHowYouEatLog ), I think I’m going to quit this and just make my own format for keeping the diary.
FoodDiarySeeHowYouEatLog is simple, and straight to the point, if that’s what you’re looking for. ALL it does is take pictures of what you eat.
This is great if that’s all you want to do, but you have to pay for more options, and it isn’t particularly exciting for any other reason then it having organized pictures.
So, it may not have worked for me and my purposes, but it’s a good app overall, and I can see it could be very useful to many people.
The only one thing I didn’t like, and why it doesn’t have five stars, is that it would pop up with something to get you to buy their pro-version when you tried to move around FoodDiarySeeHowYouEatLog .
I’m just starting out and everything seems pretty straightforward, however, I don’t like the fact that it’s set for me to eat a whole SIX times a day. I don’t see (or have not yet found) a way to edit the amount of times you eat in a day. I eat only 1-3 times a day, and whenever I want to take a screenie or my day view I get the message “eating regularly is-“ essential or necessary or something of that nature, when really, eating regularly isn’t eating every 2 hours you’re awake, it’s eating whenever you’re hungry or within your set hours, and can be as often or not often as each individual requires. I don’t like the message that it’s sending, and while I guess it could be helpful for someone recovering from an under-eating disorder or something similar, it definitely doesn’t apply to every user.
Overall FoodDiarySeeHowYouEatLog is pretty great. It’s good enough that I kept coming back to it over similar apps because of how easy to use it is and how it keeps me accountable and mindful of the food I consume. I ended up splurging for a years membership so that I would be able to look back and see my history. I really recommend FoodDiarySeeHowYouEatLog for anyone who wants to see what they eat laid out in front of them. It’s such a simple concept but it really makes a difference!
The one thing that I really wish would change about FoodDiarySeeHowYouEatLog is being able to take more than six pictures a day. I’m a frequent snacker and like to drink non-water beverages: this means that the limitations on the photo amounts makes it difficult for me to keep track. For example, I’ll have dinner, but I’ll have a second glass of wine that I have to add as the evening snack. But wait, what if I want a third? Then where does it go? I add it as a little note but that’s not quite helpful as another picture.
I’ve only been using this for a day, but so far I’m enjoying it. It’s simplicity suits my needs! When an app takes too much work to update, I’m less likely to stick to it. I’m hoping I can improve my diet choices as I continue to use FoodDiarySeeHowYouEatLog.
However, I wish one thing could be changed. I wish some of the snacks could be removed as needed on any given day. Some days I snack more, and some days less. I just want to respect what my hunger tells me - but I don’t want to feel like FoodDiarySeeHowYouEatLog is encouraging me to over eat. Quite frankly, eating 6 times a day, every day, is completely unnecessary for some people.
Other than that, so far so good!
I’ve had FoodDiarySeeHowYouEatLog for a couple months now and I originally downloaded it just so I can get a visual of what I’m actually putting in my body. I’ve learned so much about myself just by tracking because I think we have a natural bias towards ourselves to “think” we’re eating healthy but taking photos and having the literal image of what I ate has helped me open my eyes to the reality of 1) What I actually am eating 2) What times I’m eating and 3) As someone who deals with IBD, this is really helpful to see what foods make me feel good and what foods don’t. It’s also helpful to track what foods can cause certain reactions like acne or affect my hormones and energy levels. Overall, really love FoodDiarySeeHowYouEatLog! It’s so helpful and I also really love the layout of it. It’s so simplistic and aesthetically pleasing to the eye. Also, their customer service is so quick to respond and fix any issues you may have. I love using the SHYE app. I wanted to track my diet to understand it better over time, and start to see patterns to improve my choices. The action of a simple photo with ability to write some free form text about what is in it just works for me. I enjoy doing this, and it makes me think about my choices without being burdensome. I’ve also found the pdf export functionality is useful. On a few occasions I’ve provided it to nutrition, healthcare, and / or fitness professionals, and it has enabled very useful conversations.
This is an extremely helpful app for keeping me on top of digestive problems. I’ve just taken out a lifetime membership because this is going to be an ongoing project! I have been using it for about two years anyway, and love the features. It’s super helpful; if I get in trouble with gut issues, all I have to do is look back and see what I ate and how I was doing. Very helpful to be able to make notes both on the pictures of the food and at the bottom of each page. FoodDiarySeeHowYouEatLog is my daily companion. I highly recommend it.

It’s fun and easy to use, it’s precise, and it helps you create an impeccable journal of What You Eat.
I have ADHD and frequently forget to eat or am just uninterested in eating, which leads to a lot of 1) migraines from not eating and 2) unhealthy snacking because it’s easy and quick. FoodDiarySeeHowYouEatLog holds me accountable and makes it fun- because taking pictures of my food makes making it more enjoyable. I haven’t had a migraine since I started using FoodDiarySeeHowYouEatLog :) I know a lot of people complain that 6 meals is too much, but for me it’s perfect. I can’t eat a lot at once so my portion sizes are usually smaller, but then I get hungry faster, so 6 small meals a day is a lot better for me than 3 big ones
I’ve been using FoodDiarySeeHowYouEatLog for a couple of years now to track my meals (not calories) in regards to GERD and IBS. I recently had a few questions regarding the access of my history, as I had let my subscription lapse when things were going well. Mia was not only fast on the reply, but super helpful in resolving my questions too.
It’s been SO helpful to go back and match my symptoms to what I was eating in the days surrounding them. Definitely a multi-functional app. I actually avoid counting calories, and FoodDiarySeeHowYouEatLog does an excellent job of staying neutral in its functionality that way. Really appreciated!
I am in Overeaters Anonymous so I tell my sponsor what I ate everyday, but I find other food tracking apps make me obsess over calories and carbs. This is just so simple!
At first I was bummed I couldn’t remove the snacks from the Home screen (I eat three meals a day and nothing in between) but I found a way to make it work for me by thinking of them as “spiritual snacks.” In addition to my meals I am telling my sponsor I went to an OA meeting, talked to her, and did my daily spiritual practice of meditating on a Tarot card.
In addition to customizing the number the boxes on the Home Screen, I also wish I could change the font color to make it show up better on certain pictures.

Just purchased the premium version. So far as I am getting in to it it seems great and very much what I was looking for. My goal however isn’t to lose weight, it is to stay in track with eating correctly during the day. I want to use this in addition to a workout plan and actually build muscle and bulk up some.
I am an executive chef and during many busy day’s , I don’t always eat or stop to eat as I should. FoodDiarySeeHowYouEatLog seems like an awesome way to SEE, track and importantly-Remind me to stop and fuel up.
Any ideas you may have as to how FoodDiarySeeHowYouEatLog may currently support my goal of bulking up, or even simple additions that would help to support this goal would be great. I am sure there are others out there who may be looking for the same thing. Stay WELL!
I like FoodDiarySeeHowYouEatLog very much. I think it’s extremely easy to use, but still very helpful. I’ve been struggling with eating disorder and other problems for a long time, and this apps kind of helps me to make smarter choices in picking food, avoid binge eating and overall see what I eat.
I guess the only thing I would suggest adding is photo editing. I mean things like filters, brightness, saturation and so on. I also reckon it would be a good idea if FoodDiarySeeHowYouEatLog had a possibility to write on photos. I know that you can add captions, but it’s not quite the same. I always edit my food photos and type names of different products, but I have to use other apps to do this, which can take a long time. So it would be amazing if I could do everything in one app

I’ve only used the free version of FoodDiarySeeHowYouEatLog as I only needed something to track what I was feeding my dog who was diagnosed with kidney disease and rather than prescribed pet food, I opted to go the more natural and beneficial Raw food diet which requires a lot more work than just opening a can of prescription dog food.
I was able to take a photo and add notes to the picture which was all I needed.
I only found one minor problem which I was reluctant to say anything about being that I was using just the free version. I decided to let them know anyway and give them the opportunity to look into if they wanted. I was pleasantly surprised by a very quick response to the problem I was having, and got a follow up email as well. That alone tells me that they care about their app, and want to see people succeed!
Thanks for a great app that helped me with the strict diet I had my dog on.
What a clever and unique app. I think it is very helpful for those of us who yo-yo diet. I use the paid version which really works as a coach rather than just a recording app. The people who developed FoodDiarySeeHowYouEatLog use a very holistic and step by step approach to building healthy eating habits. I think it is clever how they translated the approach into a coaching app. Keep in mind, if all you’re looking for is a food recording app for your own diet (Keto, paleo etc...), this is really something different than that as this program is based on the balanced plate theory (1/2 produce, 1/4 protein, 1/4 carbs).
