Like the app, could be better worth a couple tweaks

Been using Verses for a week and already memorized an entire Psalm! Definitely looking forward to using this year. Two areas of feedback for the developers that would make Verses better:
1. An option to say you made a typo for the Type-Out game (it’s really challenging to have zero typos in a longer passage—the psalm I have memorized has 22 this app, and while I know them, I’ve had to start the whole passage again and again until I’ve made zero typos).
2. Building on this, it would be great if there was a way to say you’ve already memorized the passage without having to practice until the circles load all the way. Some passages I’ve memorized in the past I would like to add to my dashboard and refresh, but I don’t want to spend a lot of time on them just to prove to Verses that I already know them.

Overall pleased with the concept and happy to pay the $5/year. Would love to see these things implemented though!

Love this app except for the Speak Out

Verses has been super helpful with keeping me accountable for scripture memorization. I love the different games and how Verses keeps up with this app you haven’t practiced in awhile through the green inner circle. Overall, a wonderful app that I will keep using!! My only complaint is with the Speak Out feature which is supposed to allow you to speak the verse(s) into your phone to check for accuracy through Beta voice recognition. However, this feature does not seem to work properly. It gets overwhelmed by long passages as well as you speaking at normal speed. Even if I speak like a robot word by word (which takes a long time if it is a few this app), it will still mark words incorrectly that I am clearly saying or will lag and mark as incorrect because it cannot keep up. Would love to see this feature get updated in the future versions of Verses because I think there is an advantage to speaking scripture out loud at certain times rather than typing. Still would highly recommend Verses to friends wanting to memorize scripture more regularly!

Highly Recommended App for Scripture Memory

This is Verses for Scripture memory I’ve been looking for since there have been apps. There are eight methods for reviewing/learning this app - all of which I’ve used through my years of memorizing Scripture. Some of the methods have multiple levels of difficulty. You can place this app in groups that YOU label (Beatitudes, Psalm 23, etc.) which is handy and keeps things organized. You can visually see your progress and memory “health” for each verse from the rings. Verses has three Bible translations to choose from - NIV, ESV and KJV and so this app are very easy to add. But, this also means if you have a verse memorized in an older version or a different translation, you can’t really use Verses for that verse. I am currently using the free version. This may not be an issue in the premium version. All in all, the best of the six or seven I’ve tried through the years.

Just a heads up.....

I was curious about Verses and downloaded it at the end of January to try the 30 day free trial. Verses requires the user to set up an account, in order to try it. I wasn’t prepared to start yet and go through that process and figured the 30 day trial would start from the day I set up an account. Anyway, at the end of February, I was billed for Verses . I sent a refund request to apple telling them I never used Verses - never set up an account. They denied my request. A week later I tried to sign into Verses , but since my account was never set up, it said there was a problem. I was disappointed and annoyed with the situation, and sent a screen shot to Verses customer service explaining what happened on March 7th. I finally created an account figuring if I paid for it and can’t get a refund, I might as well give it a try. Since I only saw the KJV, I wasn’t really interested. Today (March 27th), Verses customer service finally responded and checked in. They saw that I had created an account on 3/7 and wanted to make sure that I no longer saw the error message. I don’t. I have never tried Verses, so it might be the best app in the world. But this disappointing situation makes me not want to use Verses or support the people behind it.

Perfect App for memorizing Verses!

Verses helps me memorize this app easily! The different methods it uses are perfect to help me retain the this app. I can work on them wherever I go and have extra time. I can review ones I've already memorized. It's all around a great app. I highly recommend it. I'm in my early 60s and love that I can still learn more Scripture.
PS. The last few months as my memorization has increased daily. The log isn’t working and not giving me credit for memorizing for over 5 minutes. That’s rather frustrating. I’m not memorizing for that reason but it does create an incentive to use Verses every day. It keeps freezing and losing track of my daily work. What gives? Your updates say you have fixed the bug causing that issue but it still continues as of today, April 8, 2019. Please, fix this! It can’t be that challenging.

It’s ok

I purchased the pro versus only for Verses to not allow me to complete a verse I’ve already memorized. The speak out beta option (which is necessary for the completion of the memorization of the verse) doesn’t understand certain words and I actually speak great English fluently with a slight Jersey accent. Anyway it’ll mark the word red sometime well after it was white and I’m a line past it. It’s extremely frustrating and super annoying as well as very discouraging seeing how it’s hard enough to stay encouraged and focused in memorizing scripture. I would’ve gave it 4 starts but I emailed a while back about this problem and never got a response. I’m so disappointed because I really felt Verses was going to be great. I gave it 3 stars because it does help and all the other features work pretty well.
Please 1. Fix the speak out beta or remove it all together & 2. Can we have an option to move the verse somewhere once WE have memorized it? Like in a memorized or completed folder?

App freezes?

I love Verses! I got it almost a week ago as it was recommended by my District Superintendent’s wife. I was really enjoying learning the book of John in the KJV and decided I wanted to go ahead and pay the $5 or so to get the ESV to memorize that instead. So I did, however, now that I have, every time I open Verses , Verses freezes immediately upon opening. I can’t scroll up or down or click on anything. I’ve tried completely closing out of Verses and reopening, I’ve tried deleting Verses and reinstalling, I’ve tried rebooting my phone altogether, I’ve tried opening while connected to WiFi, I’ve tried opening it on airplane mode, I’ve tried opening it using data rather than WiFi, and nothing seems to be working. I really would like to keep using Verses, but I honestly can not recommend it if it’s going to lock up as soon as you put money into it...

Edit: I took my rating down to one star because there’s also no way to contact them for help about the issue. Hopefully this bug is fixed quickly or else they really shouldn’t even offer multiple versions...

Awesome

Super awesome app!

Only thing that’s kind of annoying is how the progress circle loads every single time you scroll past something you’ve memorized/are memorizing. I feel like once I have more scripture memorized, it’ll be really annoying to see those circles loading up every time as I scroll up and down.

I think they should load when you scroll past them the first time, but once they’re off screen they should just continue holding that same progress value so they don’t have to reload when you scroll back up to them. Then when you make progress or lose progress, the meter will continue to track how it does, but those 3 circumstances (first time loading, improvement in performance, or decrease in performance) should be the only time a progress/health circle reloads.

Favorite Bible Memory App! :)

Especially now with the update, this is my favorite Bible memory app! I love the lay out and features that other apps don’t have. I also think that for what you are getting, the price is much more reasonable than others. For example, the Scripture Typer app is $10 for the pro plus another $5 for any version than KJV, and doesn’t have as many “games” which causes me to get bored and not learn as well with no variation.

I love how Verses has various “games” such as reordering phrases and reveal (both of which are unique and I haven’t found in other apps). I also like the fill in the blank (which slowly get harder with increasing number of blanks!), audio, type out, and the ability to easily extend your verse selections and others.

The only thing that confuses me for a bit was how to delete a collection. But I realized that once you have this app in a collection you can go to settings and the option to delete appears. To delete a verse you swipe it to the left for the option.
I do love the collection feature to organize my this app.

I currently don’t use this feature but hope to in the future, but I love the ability to have the small group feature!

Thankful for Verses. :)

VERY useful, but...

I really love using Verses! It’s extremely helpful in my memorization of scripture, and I’ve been able to advance a lot in my use of Verses! However, it is annoying that I can be using Verses for thirty minutes, going through multiple different passages, and Verses still won’t credit any of my work to my daily streak. Keeping my streak is a big motivator to studying, so it is demotivating when Verses won’t give me credit in my streak even when I’m studying for a long time.

This should work like Duolingo does where you can set a goal for how much you want to learn every day in order to keep your streak. Maybe a set amount of time or a set amount of passages studied? That would really help. I just don’t like feeling like I’m going to lose my streak even when I’ve been studying for thirty minutes. Thank you!

Favorite Verse Memorization App!

I instantly liked Verses from the user-friendliness, to simplicity of design, to creativity of learning styles, Verses is the most helpful. I had struggled with Verses crashing for the period pf a couple weeks and began looking for another option. However, finding no better alternative, I came back to this one. I hope they are able to continue support for Verses, as I would rather pay to keep it running than lose the collections I have started and plan to continue adding to.
Perhaps the greatest thing, besides the collected this app available to memorize, is the ability to look at each book and chapter of the Bible to see what you have learned and what is left to even be read!
Very thankful for the developers and Verses. 👍👍

Why go the way of login required?

I enjoyed Verses and have really gone through a lot of this app. Then an update came that requires you to login. I realize every app in Verses Store is going the way of login required these days, but for what purpose? The claim is to backup data, connect with friends, and encourage one another on line. The real purpose is to track your data for sale back to Facebook and collect your information to sell to marketers and 3rd parties. I realize apps take money to make and update, but I’m fundamentally against this business model. I’d rather pay $5 even $10 for a really solid app that doesn’t nag me or sell my data. It’s clear the company is not interested in spreading God’s word, but keeping the cash flow high for as long as possible. I’m uninstalling Verses and moving to a different bible memory app that doesn’t (yet) require you to login in. I mean really, just make it optional.

Really awesome.

Really awesome app. Great thing with which to fill downtime and replace mindless browsing/gaming/fiddling on your phone with. They have topic based collections of scripture in which it provides you with a group of scripture to focus on memorizing, and you can also choose any verse out of the entire Bible you'd like to memorize and use several memory activities to help you. I've memorized scriptures in seconds, and I've memorized scriptures in days. Memory games are awesome quality. Varied enough that you don't get bored easily. The KJV is totally free, all other bible versions you have to pay between like 3 and 7 dollars for. My number could be a little off there. So, really good app- really grateful they made such a quality app totally free- awesome labor of faith and love right here. God Bless and keep the love!

Best app for Scripture memorization

I really love Verses. I had been using an online memory aid for several years, and I have tried other memory app (Scripture memory and others) to help me store Scripture in my heart. But this one stands out among the rest. I did purchase it a long time ago so I don’t have the issues others have about the subscription issue, but... I think even if I had to subscribe, knowing how much this helps me with what is important to me, I would do so.
I do have one update request for developers, though. I use Verses on an ipad and would very much like to have Verses function in landscape mode as well as portrait. I do use a bluetooth keyboard for typing and reading text sideways is awkward. 😉

This is the best!

I’ve always said I’m just not gifted at memorizing scripture. This way WORKS! I’ve been using it since quarantine started in March 2020 and have used it on and off. I compared it to other apps similar before paying for this one’s full access and would do it again in a heartbeat! I love how it keeps track of all my this app to memorize and how I can have a subsection for this app I’m memorizing for my current Bible study. Thanks for making this! Oh, and I also love how I can choose from different versions... some this app I have saved as NIV, while the majority are in ESV... and I can keep them in the version I want (does that make sense? I don’t have to just pick one version forever in Verses.)

Enjoyable Way to Memorize Scripture

I rarely write reviews on apps, well actually... I’m not sure I’ve ever reviewed an app. However, Verses is definitely worthy of my review! It has helped me quickly memorize, and maintain, 20/29 scriptures (so far) for the Navigators 2:7 series!!

The verse cards were just eh for me, but this makes memorization enjoyable and capitalizes on my competitive spirit. If I happen to miss a day, it shows me. It was easy for me to misplace my notecards and miss several days at a time. But yeah... now I’ve always got my phone, and thus my memory this app! :-)

I really appreciate the level at which you can customize based on what you wish to learn. If you are looking to learn single this app or a passage, it allows you to customize based on your desire. It also allows you to establish customizable “collections”. For instance, I have a collection of this app for each of the first 3 books in the 2:7 series.

Overall, Verses speeds my memorization of scripture and helps me maintain what I’ve learned. I strongly encourage you to put the discipline of scripture memorization into your daily routine using Verses!

Great app, great job.

Huge thanks to the developer(s) of Verses. So many great ways to memorize Scripture, and I am happily paying $10 a year. If I can pay that for Netflix every month, I can pay that to memorize Gods word.

I did notice on password reset, the email is very obviously dev-set-up like. Pretty cool you are using firebase, but might want to polish that up. Also, groups could use some ux work, kinda tricky figuring out how to navigate that area. (Eg inviting a friend creates a new group, the only way to delete a group is to leave it, and you leave it by clicking your name?) stuff like that. I’m sure you have many more great updates planned, keep up the great work, and thanks for using your skills to make such a great app for Gods people!

Great App

I really love Verses. It's a great help in memorizing scripture and makes it fun to do. The only problem I have had is it has crashed at times, my this app sometimes disappear, and when I would try to start a group with people it wouldn’t work. I think some of this has been sorted out as I just redownloaded it on my new phone. I have no problem paying $7 for a Bible translation. Making something like this and keeping it up to date costs money, so if paying that money leads to better app support and features I’am for it. I can’t stress how helpful Verses has been in memorizing scripture and $7 for a translation does not even compare to the value Verses can add in your walk with Christ. If it helps you keep God’s word in your heart then you can’t put a price on it.

Excellent tool for memorizing Scripture.

I have used this for a few weeks and find it a good tool to use. I use it 5 minutes a day. App uses listening, reading, speaking, putting verse in order, and 4 levels of fill in the blank. Did not give it a 5 star rating because the speaking out part does not work (although that could be my fault) and because when I’ve tried listening to the verse, it sounds a chopped robotic clip, much like the first gps units that came out a decade ago. And the pronunciation isn’t always correct. It’s a measured but not rhythmic audio. What I do like is the ordering, filling in blanks, and typing out features. You can choose your own this app to memorize or choose a collection. This tool also helps me to choose to memorize and facilitates daily activity.

⭐️🌟⭐️🌟⭐️

Five stars for sure, incredible app that challenges you to not only learn God’s Word, but to keep it hidden in your heart!! I have used Verses to learn everything from memory this app to entire chapters by learning and memorizing sections and then using recall to put them all together. The new update looks great, and I love the flat fee for all Bible versions, however, I have not been able to use version 5 to learn scripture as it freezes immediately upon opening. Verses has a great, innovative, and incredibly responsive team behind it, so still gets five stars because I trust that they’ll resolve the issue soon... but if you could fix it by 11a on Monday, I would really really appreciate it... trying to memorize James 1 by then😉

Disappointed Move to Subscription

Thankful to the developers for creating an app like this and understand the need to keep developing and paying your own bills. However, moving to a subscription based, sign in only model is a no go for me. I had already purchased another translation within Verses and was using it. I did resolve the issue of not seeing the purchase and am thankful I will be able to continue using that translation without a subscription purchase. However, New users are now forced to sign in and upgrade to a subscription model for other translations. There are several issues I see with that If you are using Verses in a ‘restricted’ country: the sign in is going to flag you. But outside of that sign in only is a horrible idea. At the least keep it to KJV. Also, yes the groups is great for memorizing together, but now that incentive to invite others and pay for the translation you are using is gone because it is a subscription model now. Should be optional or charge more for translations. Will continue using my current translation, but you lost a supporter and the free advertisement for your app by switching to subscription.

Love it so far but . . .

I really appreciate Verses so far and did pay for the yearly. I plan on sharing and encouraging connecting with a few others to use Verses for Bible memory. I would like to see more games and variations of practice tools.
The biggest down fall so far and my only complaint is that the “Speak Out” game (which states it is Beta mind you) keeps dinging me for getting the passage wrong when I am saying the correct words. I have tried it out a few times and it seems to knock my progress back significantly and yes I double checked I wasn’t saying the passage incorrectly. I would love to see this game in a finalized state without the current bugs in the Beta version.
Hopefully we can see these fixes and newer games sooner than later.

I am memorizing like never before

Several passages that have been hard for me to memorize word for word are now locked in to my mind as a result of using Verses. It was always hard for me to memorize short passages and the series of tasks Verses takes me through made it possible le. Now I’m tackling longer passages and am very pleased to see how quickly I’m able to recall them. After spending time in Verses getting the point I can type the passage out successfully, Memorized, I’m able to repeat the passage in my mind while going about my day, say it out loud, and consider the passage during times of prayer without having to pull out my phone or a Bible.

I REALLY wish that it offered a newer Spanish translation such as Reina Valera Contemporanea.

I’m so thankful for this app

I want to give a huge thank to all the developers for Verses. I’ve been wanting to memorize the scriptures better for a long time until I found this! It’s very effective to me! You guys had a great start on Verses, and I know there’s more to explore and perfect. I just have some trouble with the “word bank” game. Is it possible to make it stay at the level where I’m at when I leave and come back for the same passage within the same day? I was at level 4 and I left the passage and it went back to level 1. I’m looking forward to more updates on Verses. Thank the Lord for leading you into making Verses and may the Lord bless you!

What it worth to you?

I’ve had Verses on my phone for almost 4 years now. The beginning stages were rough at times but the main pieces of the structure has always been EXTREMELY HELPFUL.

Developer support has greatly helped push Verses along since then, but know on the front side ITS A SUBSCRIPTION BASED SERVICE. Obviously, this is to help pay those who are keeping Verses together. If you could’ve experienced Verses before the subscription, trust me, how much better it flows now and syncs with other people is truly fantastic.

Verses has significantly impacted my ability to retain the truths of God’s word in my heart. If you’re at all considering, it’s worth your time and money, seriously.
