Not bad, could be better

I have taught second grade for many years. For the past several years, I have used Class Dojo to keep families informed about what their children are doing in school and send messages back and forth. I switched to SeeSaw this year because Class Dojo won’t he student data privacy pledge. I wish SeeSaw had a few features I am used to, such as the ability to schedule messages for delivery at a later time. Also, posting pictures and videos of my learners in action takes SO many steps on SeeSaw! Notifications don’t always appear in a timely manner either, so sometimes I miss messages from parents until after school. I am committed to using it through the end of this school year, and I hope that the parts I am learning to use (like students uploading their work) will be better than what I have experienced so far.

Ok but could be better

Great have a love it by the way except the fact is every time someone post something or they do understand it just comes up and I do you want me and it leaves like a little mark so you have to click on it and get rid of it but I also don’t like when you have a real app because they usually use it what happens is that when you leave it for like five minutes and you come back on to arm the page or doing it just goes away everything you’ve been working on for the past few hours or minutes there 30 minutes just goes away to start all over so I wish I could do something about that.

So annoying

It’s one of two things.....either the school our kids go to have no idea how to use SeesawParentandFamily effectively, or it’s the worst app of all time. I have notifications turned off but I get notifications constantly. We have two kids, so every time a school note goes out I get everything twice. There is no rhyme or reason to things that get posted. Basically there are so many notes that it makes it tedious to even want to navigate. The only thing I like it for, is if a teacher or my kids post a photo or video of something cool they did in class. I’ve told our kids that they are responsible for their learning and that we won’t use SeesawParentandFamily . No different than the way it was before technology. If it’s something important we parents need to know.....just send us an email or send a note home with the kids.

Give teachers stickers

Seesaw has been pretty easy to navigate. I like that is connected to GSuite and I have a Microsoft Surface that makes it easy to navigate. I have a kindergartner and he likes that activities his teacher have both created and uploaded from the shared lessons. The microphone is also of good recording quality.

Things I wish this product would offer:

1) I have to use my own snipping tool to re-post responses, it would be great if this was integrated. To be able to pull the original document that was posted and be able to write on it.

2) Why does this tool not use stickers ? Elementary teachers always use stamps and stickers when they respond to school work. Thta would be awesome.

Why are there two apps with different views?!

I was asked by my child’s 2nd grade teacher to DL
Seesaw family, only to notice I cannot submit their class work or homework on this (seesaw family) app?! I have to login to Seesaw class as my child’s login so I can take a picture of their work on my phone. Obviously my child can take a picture of the photo via their laptop computer, but who the hell wants to position a notebook in front of their laptop or iPad cam that’s blurry to show their work? What is the point of having SeesawParentandFamily at all if you cannot have the same functions?! What a waste of space when it’s redundant to have the teacher’s announcements made 4x in their seesaw classroom app + this parent app!

Missing functionality

This is wonderful if you just want to see your children’s completed assignments and communications from the teacher. What would actually be helpful is if you could have more than one child listed and then toggle between them. Secondly, they really need to add the ability for parents to be notified when new assignments have been added. Seesaw is for elementary children, and they need more help in being aware of and completing their tasks. This could be such a powerful tool to help, if only they were thinking of the whole picture.

So that’s what they do all day! 😉

Seesaw Gives me a “peek” into my 2nd grader’s school day. From photos of her journaling assignments to videos of her presentations, it’s a wonderful (and easy) way for me, but also grandparents, uncles, aunts,, etc to be a part of her school day. I am able to “love “ and/or comment on the pictures, there is a zoom option (which makes reading assignments on my phone much easier), and a section where teachers can send out a notification that might be urgent (such as, we are closing early for snow!). I am very pleased with SeesawParentandFamily so far.

Poor UI choices, difficult to manage content

I’ve been using Seesaw online before but it’s difficult to view pictures and video on a tablet there (if it’s an album then all you see is a small image), so this year I gave up and installed SeesawParentandFamily .

Other than being able to see larger pictures and more stable navigation (it was just atrocious online, so hardly an improvement), I don’t see any benefits in installing SeesawParentandFamily and consuming space on your device.

I have just one kid who is in the last elementary grade. But according to SeesawParentandFamily , I have 5 children since it seems to treat every class as “child”.

Can’t get rid of any old stuff. When I open a list of “children”, they all are listed under one name and I don’t know which class is which. Messages from 2 grades ago are still there, can’t delete anything. Sometimes notification bubble is up but there is actually nothing new when you tap on it.

Overall seems very disorganized and maybe convenient for teachers but not so much for the parents. Can’t wait to not use it ever!

2 apps

I am a private tutor. I use SeesawParentandFamily multiple times a day with all of my students. There are so many features that I like about SeesawParentandFamily. It has been a great way to go paperless and to communicate with my parents. I have the parents post videos and pictures of the homework I assign. In order to do this they have to download the class app and the family app. There needs to be a way to integrate all of this into one app. Having two apps makes the first week of setup really confusing for parents. It would be much more convenient if all of the features were combined into one app.

Good app that could use a few improvements

It’s wonderful to be able to see kids’ completed work and their grades and teacher’s comments. However, since parents are already juggling multiple apps and mode of school communication during virtual learning, it would be helpful to see the students’ assignments in the family app in addition to the student app. This would help families keep track of upcoming work on their own devices instead of having to toggle between the family and student apps.

Hard time seeing what work needs to be done as a parent

From what I can tell from my usage as well as from our teachers are saying, there is no easy way for parents to see what work is still out and needs to be done from the parents phone. In order to get her this information, you have to check the student’s device which is not helpful when you’re trying to stay on top of things while you’re at work. Fix this and the rating goes way up. It’s good to see the teacher student communication AND also what work has been completed

Good app - would like Touch ID login

Hi. SeesawParentandFamily is good for staying up to date with my child’s school. I would like you to add the ability to store the credentials and allow user login with Touch ID or I guess on the newer phones using face recognition. This is important because we all have so many apps that all require login at this point. Thanks.

Love it bug major bug

I love how SeesawParentandFamily has enabled me to be a part of my child’s life in school. It’s great for photos videos your privacy policy is wonderful. However today SeesawParentandFamily had a glitch and scared me half to death my changing my user name to deleted user after I left a comment under my child’s video. I suggest you fix this as soon as you can bc I can’t be the only parent who just got scared. Thank you

Functionality & usability of this app is poor

My twin 2nd graders use this platform for their remote learning. The family app inexplicably doesn’t have the same content as the kids versions of SeesawParentandFamily with assignments. Who within your organization thought that this was even remotely a good idea?? What use is the “family” app if I can’t see important assignment/class information for your kids??

Right now the family app is basically useless to us, we’re thinking of installing the kids version so we can actually see what’s going on to help them with their work.

Needs some improvement

SeesawParentandFamily won’t tell me when my children’s teacher assigns a task and waiting to be completed. It only shows when my children submit the assignments and accepted by the teacher. I downloaded SeesawParentandFamily to make sure my kid won’t miss an assignment. But it doesn’t serve a purpose. I have to open their devices and login to see if they miss anything. It doesn’t make sense. If SeesawParentandFamily does this feature. I would give 4-5 stars.

Unorganized, the social feed of educational resources

As a student this is organized when a child works in their own account. However, as a parent resource, SeesawParentandFamily is incredibly frustrating and unorganized if you have more than one child. The posts are added by your children’s teacher and isn’t sorted by student. This makes everything a constant mixed social feed and makes you spend more time trying to find resources and feeds, vs. actually pulling up the per child activities.

Significant improvements could be made in SeesawParentandFamily for parent use.

Facebook for elementary school children

Unfortunately SeesawParentandFamily is basically Facebook for elementary school children, closely mimicking the Facebook feed and even offering little kids the ability to Like and comment on each others’ posts.

I don’t want my kids’ school sending a message that social media usage is positive and should be embraced when in fact evidence shows it can be detrimental to the emotional well being of young people.

No thanks, I asked my son’s teacher to opt him out of using SeesawParentandFamily.

Best ever

Seesaw is the best thing I have ever come across as a teacher! It is a safe site, user friendly to adults and children. I am not tech savvy at all and I feel successful using this digital portfolio to keep in touch with my students’s families, assign work to my students, keep track of their learning and so much more! Thank you Seesaw!

Great app!

Would rate it 5 stars if you had the ability to write the teacher a message first if they haven’t sent you a message yet. Then it would be perfect! Will update to 5 starts when that feature is available. Being able to look back at messages helps keep up with a lot of different things and if your child’s teacher never actually messages you and only posts to your child’s journal then you can’t keep up with certain things that you would be able to with a simple message. 👎 Cmon seesaw!

By

It’s just for messaging

SeesawParentandFamily is only good for messaging the teacher. Not a good app to see what they have to do, what is done and what needs to be redone only what they have completed. You’re better off downloading the seesaw CLASS app to be better involved in your child’s classroom. And with knowing that, if you have more than one kid it gets a little more difficult going back and forth since the CLASS app doesn’t allow for concurrent users.

Perfect

I’ve Ben working with my class for many weeks. This is very useful if you are a teacher or student and you need to work with your class or something like that I do recommend it I love it so much and the teacher can check before you post anything he checks then he posts.

Manage messages

Love SeesawParentandFamily . But it is frustrating that I cannot delete messages from teachers. Especially ones I still have from previous years. Please update it so we can manage to delete the messages.

Greatt app for a school child

Really really great app!!!! Love it!! My son goes to 1st grade I get all the updates the teacher sends. She sends all his pictures, pictures she takes, and just an easy way to message her out of school for updates!! Thank you!

By

Look at me!

My daycare uses SeesawParentandFamily and I enjoy getting pictures of their day. However, I wish I could save the pictures from SeesawParentandFamily . So far I haven’t been able to find a way so I have to log on to the website to be able to save the photos.

By

Great so far

We haven’t used it much yet, but our kids teachers had us download it and I look forward to seeing updates. One thing I do notice is I can’t post pictures of my kids to their teachers, I think that would be beneficial for home to school communication.

By

Great app

SeesawParentandFamily is fantastic I love being able to see what’s happening in school and the easy communication with teachers.

Students can’t sign in.

I’m a student myself, and I really like the Seesaw layout, but why can’t students sign in? I needed SeesawParentandFamily, so I could access Seesaw on my phone, but it seems like only family accounts can sign in.

My account isn’t connected to a family, so I would please like some feedback. I can’t actually say anything about the actual app because I can’t sign in.

Good wishes, a student.

App is very delayed

This is a great tool to see what the kids are doing in school. My only issue is when one of my kids post, it does not come onto SeesawParentandFamily for 4-5 days later. It shows the date it was posted so I do know how long it took to see the item. If this would be fixed, it would be a 5 star rating.

Works 10% of the time

SeesawParentandFamily only works 10% of the time. It’s very frustrating to use. It gives a connection error most of the time even when I am sure my network is working perfectly. I need to try so many times before I am able to see my children’s work at school. On the rare occasion that I am able to get in, the connection times out again in the middle of viewing the posts.
