Requires a ridiculous subscription. Don’t bother

I would give it zero stars if I could. So sick of these companies ripping people off with subscriptions. You end up paying thousands of dollars for a 2 dollar app.
I hope this business model dies soon. Please stop paying subscriptions and companies will stop that model. Let’s get back to when apps were a dollar.

I just want a tool I can buy and not pay monthly for. I’d gladly pay a one time fee for an app. Even if it was 30 dollars.

Unethical and secretive marketing practices

I downloaded WordKeeper and it immediately wanted my email address for a free trial. They have a subscription model that they want me to pay for, but after spending half an hour searching the Internet, reviews, and WordKeeper itself, nowhere does it state what the subscription price is. Even after entering my email address into WordKeeper it does not tell me how much it's going to cost me if I want to keep using it. So over these bunk, manipulative subscription models. Stop trying to rip us off. I deleted my account and deleted WordKeeper immediately. Transparency = a feeling of honesty. Lack of transparency = looks like you're hiding something that you don't want me to know about. I'm not playing your ridiculous, manipulative sales games. Goodbye.

Update: the developer responded by saying they made these changes to comply with user feedback. So in removing the requirement to create an account to take part in a free trial, they've found the only possible option is to completely remove any information about plan pricing? Ok.........

That sounds like a really complicated dev problem to resolve, so I sat down and brainstormed solutions. I came up with one! Here it is: add a pricing page. lol

Pay wall

Once you finish your trial you will have to subscribe. You won’t be able to enter your account until you do that. I find it really silly to do this, WordKeeper is very outdated to begin with. It doesn’t give any sort of motivation to keep writing. It’s a simple app, but way too simple and so boring to look at. They should have made it as a paid app instead of a subscription base. It’s not really worth a lot for a subscription from the way it looks. I’d turn to something else.

Nothing is Free! Read Carefully

Though it states “in app purchases” when you can install WordKeeper , it’s very misleading. You begin by creating an account and are IMMEDIATELY sent to a “choose which subscription you want...” Yes...you do get a week free, but that’s a marketing scheme.

Recommendation for WordKeeper creator: give the user SOME small thing for free if they’re going to provide you with account information. If not, then allow the user the opportunity to delete their account once they realize their only “next step” after creating one is to choose their subscription. This will sound unusual, but my advice is to look at a push up counting app, and see what they offer for free, and what “add-ons” the account holder can purchase.

Features?

The listed features look amazing, but I can’t seem to find where they are. My home screen tells me I have no scheduled writing for the day, but there’s no place to schedule anything. I thought this was because I don’t have the proper subscription, but I can’t find anyplace to add a subscription or check what it actually is from within WordKeeper . I wish I could love WordKeeper but so far I’m just frustrated that there are no instructions for how to use the features listed on WordKeeper page.

This App's Description is Somewhat Misleading

When I bought this, I thought that it was an app that I could type my stories directly into (and be able to organize them that way), and that it would give me an overview of my writing from there - not having to manually upload only the word count and session times myself and then having it track that.

For what it is, it looks great. But, honestly, I wish I had known all of the details before I bought it :/

Also, how am I supposed to time my sessions with WordKeeper - with the in-app timer - while writing? I don't like that I have to use another device.

All in all, eh. I wish I hadn't spent six bucks on something I don't feel like I was informed well enough about.

Better than Other Trackers / Share Function Broken

The interface is very nice, and the timer/tracker works more smoothly than other apps I've tried.

The Share function does not seem to work at all. First of all, getting to it is very awkward -- why not have an immediate option as soon as an entry is recorded? Better yet, why not have the option to do it automatically? Regardless, once you get to it, and click on either the Twitter or Facebook icon, WordKeeper says, "You need to have a [Twitter/Facebook] account. Sign in or create one." I have both, and I'm signed in to both, but I can't ever get past that. Public accountability is a great motivator, so having a usable sharing option should be critical to an app like this.

Love this app

There's not much I have to say. WordKeeper has been incredibly helpful to me and keeps me motivated. However, when I enter a writing deadline, the amount of days left is wrong for me. It's days shorter than it should be. This drastically messes up the amount of words I should write per day. I work around it by putting the wrong date to get the right amount of days left

Simple, Yet Perfect

I had gone on a hunt for something like WordKeeper, perusing articles and review sites to find what I wanted, but found that the apps people recommended were way too involved. I wanted something simple, clean, and easy-to-use. I wanted to be able to track my words and also have a goal in place so I could watch that progress bar fill up and get my little boost of endorphins. That’s it.

What I found in WordKeeper was precisely what I needed, and I’ve used it ever since. I now have two projects in progress on WordKeeper and it keeps me happily churning forward with both. My critique partner (also an author) is using and loving it as well. Great app!

This app is awesome.

I like keeping track of my writing sessions, it makes me feel more productive and it’s actually easier to get down to those brass tacks when I know I can be productive. I like the finely tuned controls of WordKeeper , and to be honest my only complaint so far is that I wish it was a little more finely tuned.

I have found several apps previous to this before and have never stuck with them. This one is different partially because I can sync it with all my devices, but because I can have a complication on my Apple Watch to show how much of my writing goal I have completed for today.

WordKeeper is super! I would buy it all over again, knowing now how much I love it!

Amazing update!

The latest update on the Word Keeper app is absolutely amazing. The developers have given it a total user interface overhaul.

It’s intuitive to use and the insight section is phenomenal. I love having all the info at my fingertips for a motivation and to keep myself on track with my work.

As a bonus, I recently reached out with a suggestion for something to make tracking my sessions easier, and not only did the development team get back to me right away, they had a release with that feature out in a matter of days!

Amazingly useful tool for writers

I have tried using many time management tools in conjunction with tracking my word count, but nothing rivals WordKeeper. I can see my progress and projected finish times based on my actual productivity (assuming, of course, I’m entering accurate times and numbers). I also like the built-in timer—which would be a great widget at some point in WordKeeper's developmental future.

It is user-friendly and interesting to follow as I work on my projects, and it deserves support.

Amazing!

As a writer, I’m always looking for writing related apps to help with my craft. I was so, so, so (repeat) happy to have stumbled upon this one! I was hesitant to pay at first, because I often find myself not enjoying apps as much down the line, but it was money well spent.

I love the layout of WordKeeper , along with all of the graphs that break down your projects’ stats. It really helped me with NanoWriMo this year!

All writers should have WordKeeper! Don’t hesitate, just go for it. You will not be disappointed.

FANTASTIC!!

Holy cow, WordKeeper is fantastic! A total game changer for authors like me. As an indie author writing a 50,000 plus word book every single month, WordKeeper is priceless to me. It is so motivating and so stinking helpful! I only wish I had found it sooner in my writing career!!

I love everything about WordKeeper ! While I don’t completely understand the burn down feature, everything else is very helpful!

There is one thing I would change if I could, but it would only make it better, not change anything as a whole. It would be super awesome to have some kind of a dashboard on the first page where it keeps track of your words per day and hour and stuff over time on all of your books rather than just the one you’re working on. Since I start new books so frequently, it’s a bummer to have to start over with my little graph and my high-score word count for biggest writing days. If this could happen, I would be even more in love with WordKeeper !

So anyway I highly recommend WordKeeper for all writers. It’s fantastic and incredibly useful, and it makes me about 5X more productive! It is so worth the money!

Keeps me focused

I love the details of WordKeeper. Not only does it track my writing time and allow me to keep up with the words written, it provides a significant amount of data that helps my analytical brain. And a huge thank you to the quick response of customer service when I had a question about WordKeeper . A must have for authors.

Incredible tool

Whoever had a hand in the development of WordKeeper must have been a writer themselves. This is such a powerful asset for any writer. This provides the user with loads of helpful information to improve his/her craft. If you have a story to tell, and you want to do it right, utilize tools like these that are available to you.

My Favorite App

WordKeeper does exactly what you want it to do!! in fact, it will almost certainly exceed your expectations. I keep it on my home screen and use it basically every day. It’s like a little accountability partner you carry around in your pocket. Love it!!

Such a handy little sidekick!

I recently switched over to writing my novel in Pages because I want to focus purely on writing and keep things simple; other apps have a little too much going on that I find distracting. But I wanted to continue tracking my word count as well, so I was looking for a simple app to track words typed and deleted and just keep track of the progress I’m making towards my goal, but this actually gave me more than what I was looking for. The statistics are super cool, and I love being able to write in phases and see how much I’m getting done each time. It’s really cool to see which time of day I’m more productive. The creator is very responsive and got back to me regarding a feature request really quickly. I also love there being a 7-day free trial, so that I can have time to get acquainted with WordKeeper before deciding to commit.

Love this program

This program really keeps me motivated in my writing. Just to be able to keep track of my progress and know my goal date really helps you learn how you write as how to write better.

Incredibly Helpful!

I finished ten books with WordKeeper before I decided it was time to review it, and I can confidently say it’s become a necessary tool in my writing process.

I write four to six books a year, and WordKeeper helps keep me on track. I love that I can see my daily word count, as well as how much I need to write a day to finish on time (and that I can choose what days I want to write so I don’t fall behind on weekends when I take time off). I write in acts, and I like to keep my books in a certain word count range. The percentage tracker helps me see if I’m on track for the rise and fall of action in each quarter.

I also like that I can move books between active projects and inactive projects, as I like to play with new ideas in my between-book breaks before I actually schedule them in.

Lastly, this is a phenomenal app if you like to do sprints with author friends. You can set the timer for however long you want—I use this feature several times a week. It’s also great if you want to work in sessions. When the timer goes off, you know it’s time to stand up, walk around, and get a drink. I’m a high Focus (CliftonStrengths), and this is a huge help because I have a tendency to sit for too long when I’m working.

Overall, it’s just a really helpful app, especially if you’re a full-time author.
