This game has HUGE potential and I think it is very fun! The constant updates keep content fresh, new and exciting and the huge depth that goes into the game along with historical accuracy and the ability to play as one of 8 cool nations and use their special abilities and troops make this game one of a kind! This game stands out from all other similar genre games for this reason. The graphics are also excellent especially when it's not cartoony like Clash of Clans. Also, the fact that you advance throughout history makes you feel like you are accomplishing stuff. Advance from throwing rocks to shooting arrows. Develop gunpowder weaponry such as guns. Industrialize in the Industrial Revolution with new war weapons such as tanks, planes and machine guns! Develop helicopters later on! So much personalization as well. Play the way you want! Are you a constant attacker? Choose the French or Germans! Do you like developing your economy? Choose the Greeks or Chinese! Do you love huge loot? Choose the British! Love defending? Choose the Japanese! The only problem in the game is the troop A.I. They are kind of idiotic but it is manageable. It would also be nice for German riflemen and SMGs to look German and not French. Yeah, I love this game! I would highly recommend it!

This game is one of the few that I have been able to keep on my phone for a few years now. There have been times that I have stopped playing due to life, but I still come back to it. With everything there are pros and cons. The pros; the game does not only rely solely on money or sending requests for friends to join to advance levels, there are always updates to the game so it’s not stagnant. There is a lot of history that correlates with the game and sparks interest to research more on your free time. The battles are fast and helps if the user has a busy life that they cannot play the game for extensive periods of time.
The cons: some upgrades during the game take an extremely long time to upgrade to the next level. I think this discourages users to quit the game once they reach a certain level because it may required two weeks for one upgrade to fully complete without money. I understand money needs to be made, but the upgrade do not have to be that long. One recommendation are the wall upgrades, way to expensive for the amount of walls that a user can build on their base.
I wished the developers would create more options that can be placed on the base and stay permanently. Overall, this game is one of my favorites and I am going on year 3. Please do not make this game solely on money like other games have in the past. I am looking forward to more unique leaders and generals that are not hyped up in the media. Awesome game.

Let me start by saying this game is awesome. Much more fun and involving than some of the others. Really interesting how you have multiple options and variables to chose from. Only problem I have is the paying, I think people that can play have a very unfair advantage. Only way I could possibly equal it out is with crowns, but those are so hard to get for free that it becomes impossible to enjoy fully. I think it would be nice if you could only buy same age armies instead of stuff like atomic and higher up age troops. So for example if a medical age could only buy armies that are available in the medical age. I’m sorry if this is confusing I just hope you understand what I’m trying to convey. If it seems like I’m highlighting the bad about this, I'm defiantly not. I’m just trying to explain what I consider as drawbacks. Aside from this it is really great. The alliance I’m currently in is very active and friendly. Science I joined I’ve been able to improve my game. I really hope Big Huge Games reads this and can continue releasing updates. Already they have a massive success, I just think if they continue fine tuning it would be even bigger. Again this is just my humble opinion please take this review into consideration and keep up the good work! ( Note: I think this game turns into more of a cash grab as you progress into the ages. Honestly I think we need more ways to get free crowns easily.)

So first off, this a awesome game to play, no matter what people think of it, however I also think that there could be changes to it. I condensed what I thought some new ideas down to five things. The first being what nations we can choose from, now I do understand we have a variety already of different nations, but I keep seeing the same nations over and over again, so yes, I think we need at least 5 more new countries to choose from. The second thing is, if you do decide yes on the first, I think that some of the new nations should be unlock-able at certain ages, for instance I think if you put America in the game, I think it should be able to be unlocked at the Enlightenment age. The 3rd thing I would like to talk about is the amount of hit points and Dps of all units, I think it should be raised by 5 percent. The 4th thing is that if you follow the 3rd thing, I think you should up the hit points on structures by 3 percent. Finally, the last thing I would like to discuss is the control of your troops in battle, I think you should be able to move your troops individually to places on the battlefield and not just move all your units as a whole. Anyway, I know this is a long text, I hope you all have a wonderful evening.

So much fun in the beginning. It has all the regular civilization building stuff and then some. If you’re competitive, eventually you’ll want to start battling other nations and earn medals. The battle matchup quickly becomes intolerable. You can’t search for an opponent with search parameters, you are totally at the whim of the programmer’s algorithms. However, if you do well and earn lots of medals, those algorithms start failing. It will literally give you opponents that simply cannot be defeated. Not because they are strong, but because they are so weak they have nothing to kill. For example: A level 1 town without a single building cannot be defeated, because there is nothing to defeat. I’ve spent entire hours trying to be matched up with an opponent only to get 50 or more of these undefeatables, and another 50 or so game errors that indicate the game cannot retrieve any enemy target data, and literally only get to battle twice before I give up. For comparison, in the beginning, I could easily battle a dozen times or more in an hour, AND, spend another few enjoyable hours preparing, collecting resources, upgrading technology, researching, etc. The failure of the battle matchup makes the game intolerable, but, believe me, there are so many smaller bugs all throughout the game. Again, if you are looking for a game that starts off enjoyable, this one is great. BUT, it eventually turns to endless frustration.

First off, out of all the games that go throughout the ages, this one is by far the best. I would totally recommend this to anyone that doesn’t want to spend a penny. No in game purchases have been made by me and I am in the enlightenment age, ( a relatively high age). I am never bored, and that is important in a high quality game. The attack style is that of clash of clans, and quite frankly, I really do like it. Crowns, the most valuable in game currency are easy to acquire, since the achievements are nothing short of easy. The game can be challenging at times, like any. There is a campaign that is also clash of clans style. There are several different cultures that you can dominate as, ie. Japanese, Chinese, English, French, Egyptian, ect. The graphics are great, and are not your generic cartoony bubble letter type, which I despise. You are not attacked by players that are twice your level, like in other games such as game of war. Another big thing for me is that this game is historically accurate. The only thing that bothers me a little is that I am bombarded with outrageous deals that I would never buy. More types of troops should also be added.

I haven't played this game for a while but I can see why people complain about the pay to win situation. The only problem I have had so far is almost half of the time I attack somebody or find somebody I'm going to attack it says I lost connection. This wouldn't be a problem if the game let you come back into the battle and place more troops down or at least lets the troops you’ve placed down keep fighting. Instead you automatically lose all your troops, the battle doesn't continue, it all just ends even if you have placed down every troop you have. This has happened to me multiple times making me lose my rank and placements that I worked to earn. Other games like this (ex. clash of clans) don't do this and let you continue your battle if you do lose connection. however in these other games I never have lost connection unless i do it on purpose by putting my phone on airplane mode. Because of this it leads me to believe it is the games faulty servers making me lose connection and my rank placements. This problem needs to be fixed immediately because it hasn’t happened only to me. They don't even need to fix the servers or whatever it is that makes you lose connection they just need to add a troop saving system after you restart your game or “lose connection.”

The IGM (in game messaging) is the worst I’ve seen in a game. The battles are not that fun because the troops do CRAZY things no battle troops would do;they’re very willy nilly. E.g. long range siege troops are defenseless, but even though you drop archers(or later, riflemen)with them they won’t stay with them, they run off. The general acts the craziest:drop him into a battle and he can only think about raiding, even if the men ‘next door’ could be saved by him. There’s a rally button, but then all the troops across the board drop everything and come, even if they’re in the middle of a heated battle themselves, which gets them killed often. So in other words, you have little control.
They also have long standing glitches. Be careful to remember where you put your traps in your city, because often when you’re making your war city it glitches above the places that you have your traps, so you’re stuck wondering, Why can’t I put my wall or catapult here? I have nothing else here! Well dummy, in your’other’ village you’ve got a trap in that same area. Move all traps to the edge of town village before starting- or rearranging-your war city. Most frustrating is the troop donation glitch, which has always been a problem.

I only recently started playing this game after discovering it in DomiNations Store. It’s pretty fun, kind of like Age of Empires meets Clash of Clans. Solid game so far. The only thing that really bugs me about the game is that the crowns system seems to be broken. Crowns are like items you can unlock to speed up production of units or troops and such (think “gems” from Clash). Anyways, you can unlock free crowns by watching ads or completing some kind of action. So far, I have been able to unlock these free crowns ONCE. I’ve watched tons of ads, but it keeps saying it’s “processing” and never gives me my free crowns. It’s pretty annoying. Also, sometimes the game kind of lags for whatever reason (it’s not my connection, I checked). It gets stuck in infinite loading when I try to open supply drops or with the previously mentioned free crowns. Also, in single player campaign mode sometimes the game doesn’t acknowledge when you have gained stars (you’re suppose to destroy a town for stars). I destroyed a town twice and it still says 4 stars even though I decimated it (5 stars).

Tl;dr Overall it’s a fun game, but the free crowns/gems system is broken and there are some bugs in single player.

Don't even bother with this game. Forget money, forget food, forget oil. You need crowns to win this game. And you can either perform hours and hours worth of tasks to get 1 to 3 crowns at a time, or you pay to win. After you hit the age of enlightenment, the game starts introducing hundreds of micro transactions on you. increase the production value of your farms by a lousy 5%? Sure! Oh, but it is going to take four of your eight citizens three days to do it. In the meantime, expect to be grieved by every other player who is 2 to 3 ages ahead of you with superior fire, power, and troops that your defenses have no way of stopping. now you can wait those three days while you are lousy upgrade goes through, or you can use crowns, and pay to win. Don't have crowns? Don't feel like spending $99 on 1000 crowns that you will burn through in a day? Then expect to have your troops and citizens tied up anywhere from 3 to 5 to 10 days as they do simple tasks like upgrade roads or remove forests I actually really tried with this game. Up until the iron age, it was actually pretty decent. But once you get past that, it's game over. The game sits there with his hand out, trying to entice you to buy more and more and more crap. Save yourself the time and frustration and don't even bother Downloading this waste of energy.

I’ve played this for a couple months now and have to say it’s very enjoyable. Along the lines of Star Wars Battlefront. Build a base and attack other players bases. It benefits you to be in a Alliance for extra troops, war participation, and bonuses. The historical units and events are interesting, give bonuses, and are even educational. The different nations provide for nice variety and different playing styles without any one being overpowered. You are incentivized to participate and attack because the loot is the best way to advance your base. Attacking is well balanced, fairly easy to get 1-2 Star victories, difficult to score 5 Star victories. On defense, losses mean lost resources, but long peace times in between attacks keep you from losing too much. Can improve your chances with Alliance and bonus troops. You can be competitive without spending money, and advancing is not hard if you have some patience and more than a 30 second attention span. Advancing does take longer at the higher levels, but that is clearly done on purpose to keep players from maxing out too quickly and getting bored. Highly recommended

This a super fun game and have been playing it for many months. The ability to build your town and design a separate war base is really great because it allows you to express your creativity and find new ways of defending yourself. You also have a lot of variety offensively as you get to choose from a variety of different nations, each having their own perks and special army units. It’s a social game too. You can join an alliance and war against other alliances in a coordinated effort to destroy all of the opponents heavily fortified bases.

Now for the bad. The developers are always selling armies and technologies that cost real money and give people an advantage in battle. A lot of those bonuses don’t apply to alliance wars which is a very good thing. Secondly, their chat feature is so incredibly buggy that it becomes impossible to coordinate with others or leads to teammate miscommunications which is resulting in anger and confusion. It’s been at least a couple of months since the developers released an update to their chat system and it’s still super unreliable. They seemed to be more focused on selling premium content than addressing core game issues, which is disappointing.

All that said, the pros outweigh the cons by a lot and I still think it’s worth picking up.

This game is great and I’ve enjoyed it a lot as it’s the game I’ve kept on my phone the longest by far (going on 3-4 years now). The progression is fantastic and it really is cool upgrading your nation and collaborating with other users.

That being said, once you get up into the higher ages (maybe after 6 months - 1 year of play), the wait times on most things are LONG. Like 10 days upwards of 2 weeks for an upgrade. When you upgrade it also uses town-people to do this but you only have 8-16 people depending on where you are at in the game. Most stuff at this time requires 4 people so if you upgrade 2-3 things, suddenly you’re at a complete standstill and can have to wait like 6-10 days to finally be able to do something else - unless you buy crowns. So realistically plan on having patience or plan on buying crowns so you can progress faster and have more to do.

Now don’t get me wrong, it’s a very cool game. I don’t regret having it and have definitely bought crowns sometimes. But just realize that as you progress, the wait times get very long without paying into the game.

I have been playing this game since 2016. It has been an awesome game to play so much fun and they continue to add new features! I love this game and am so glad I picked it up. I am a digital age lvl 278 and I have enjoyed slowly growing little by little and strategically planning on what I would like to upgrade next. You definitely do not need to pay money in order to play this game. You can still compete with the best you just have to learn the strategy and become a good attacker!
For newcomers I would recommend you download DomiNations DISCORD and join the channel this app PRIME.
There you will find awesome active good alliances recruiting active motivated players. Tons and tons of strategic information and lots more important things to help you learn and enjoy the game!
I gave this game 5 stars because in my opinion no game is perfect but the developers have strived to correct and improve all the bugs and glitches to keep the game going strong! Thank you BHG for creating such an innovative, beautiful, exciting, and fun game!

This game would be great if not for the greed factor. The fact that if you spend crowns (real money) to instant build & it still uses resources is pure BS! Fix that & the absurd jump in length of upgrade times (ie- from 1 day to 4? Seriously?!) I hate to see what's next (I played game of war & saw this same pay to play crap. Hint: that will kill the fun pretty quickly for your average Joe blow who can't or is smart enough not to spend $1000 a day, thusly chasing off many potential long term players, who would probably spend some money if it actually did something other than... Idk, last the game. Get past the game of war money pit format & make the building aspect feasible without blowing your life savings & this is a 5 star game any day of the week. Hint any game that makes you wait weeks & months to upgrade a fake building is an auto 1 star. I only give it 2 because if not for the absurd wait times this is a really cool game & could be the best of its genre. But I'm not paying thousands of dollars just to not have to wait 6 months at a time. I'd rather just play something else. But I'll truck on until I see a month wait. If even one of these issues is fixed, I'll gladly hit that 5 button.

It’s honestly so ridiculous that if your game crashes or you have a connection issue you lose all of your troops. Especially when it happens MULTIPLE TIMES IN A ROW DURING AN EVENT. trying to gain event xp is seriously so hard when your battle isn’t counted, you lose all of your regular and mercenary troops. it’s such a waste. after spending so much money on this game you’d think these sort of things would change?? there is literally no incentive to keep playing nor spending money if it’s just going to all get lost. why would I use crowns to buy troops that JUST GET LOST?? honestly the creators and devs don’t give a crap about any of their customers. if they did they’d actually listen. if they did THIS GAME WOULDNT HAVE THE LONGEST BUILD TIMES OUT OF ANY GAME. THEY WOULDNT ONLY GIVE US SPEED UPS THAT LITERALLY DO NOTHING. OH AND HOUR SPEED UP? WHAT IS THAT GOING TO DO. it’d be worth it to get if the waits for building weren’t WEEKS. god I wish I would’ve realized all of this sooner. this review would be a whole lot worse if I could actually curse. do not play this game it ISNT WORTH IT if the devs can’t even begin to care. I’m so glad I have a platform on social media so I can rail against this game and the dev team. at least other people care enough to stop or not want to start playing this. it makes me happy to know that I’ll actively turn people off from this pile of crap

If you grew up playing Clash of Clans or Boom Beach like I did, and enjoyed what the game offered but wanted a modern twist then look no further! This game is super addictive and fun especially if you have friends who play this too and start an alliance together. Only problems I have with the game that prevent a 5-star review is the match making system. For example, I’m currently in the Classical age which is near the begin of the game but I sometimes get paired up with people in the Cold War age or higher level bases I have no chance of even getting a medal/star from. Second issue with the game is the server connection, I have a few friends who play this game and we all have good wifi service but still seem to experience connection problems while in the middle of a raid and results in a loss (unless you have already achieved a medal) and results in loss of troops and lower rank. This is probably the most irritating thing about the game among our friend group and hope it gets fixed in the future. Other than that I highly recommended you download this game and encourage your friends to download as well.

I recently picked up this game after a three year break. I forewent my old base and started new, and all of the unique and special aspects of the game started coming back to me. The graphics, gameplay, and lore are all 10/10 qualities. However , every time that I log in to my account, the game keeps asking me if I want to log back into my old account, can we have have an option to toggle that, it’s really annoying. Also, when I raid, sometimes I lose connection and it resets my army, causing me to retrain all of my troops and lose medals. Maybe try to upgrade your servers as my wifi is pretty consistent for everything else. Also while raiding, I’ve noticed that some buildings are completely invisible, which really messes up my battle strategy and is incredibly annoying. Also, the rewards for watching videos are broken. I’m in the Bronze Age and the game gave me an attack helicopter, so I proceeded to dumpster the campaign and a bunch of people my level, which seems unfair. All around a great game with a great concept, but it’s lacking in those aspects.

You can play this game without spending money. The game itself is worth 5 stars. However, if you do decide to spend money, you will find deceptive practices. Unless you are guaranteed to receive an item, not multiple possible items you may or may not get, you probably will be very disappointed. Overpriced and you will very probably receive the item of least value in the listing. Why, because of the probability scale used. You are warned!!! I usually like to invest in a game I enjoy. But, I like fair return. This is highly unlikely in the items packages. The main problem is they do not advertise how unlikely it is you will get what you wanted. The probabilities for rewards are hidden. It’s great advertising to make you think you are getting something good. I will never buy such again. Update: I have played for several months. I am sorry I invested the money into the game. Almost half your troops are taken away at industrial level. Then, opponents become incredibly hard with rebuild times. I recommend new players not to invest. Play for a while, quit, then play again, you will get the same enjoyment without spending money. Unless you enjoy frustration. Enjoy….

The game fun and can be played for free if you have patience and watch videos. The only gripe I have is the battle matching. It will only select opponents that are 100 times more stronger than you. They have a match next button witch cost coins to try to find a match near your same strength level. It easily takes 5,000 coins to match someone near you. Then it still only matches opposition that still ranked a minimum of 20 levels higher than you. Then on the flip side when your attacked 98% of the time it from some one over 100 levels from your rank. They really need to fix the battle matching to be a little more fair. Plus or minus 10 or 15 rank from your rank. At least once your attacked there is 19 hour cool down period to build up your base. When your below level 35 and are getting attacked by armored tanks and all you have is swords and arrow guys there seems like no way to get ahead. I still playing however cause it still fun to see if at some point it evens out.

You’ll spend crowns or money to get ahead such as buying peace treaties to prevent attacks. These peace treaties do not work and you will continue to lose resources to attacks. Customer service expects you to know the “Exact time and date” of every treaty you purchase (keep in mind there is multiple length peace treaties) even if you send screenshots showing the ACTIVE treaty (only two hours left) and the JUST finished attack while the treaty is currently active which means there’s no way the attack could have taken place without a peace treaty in effect but common sense isn’t common here. If I had known I needed to keep a log of the “EXACT” time I did ANY activity in order for it to be considered I wouldn’t have started playing. Even with screenshots it isn’t enough, they want the exact moment it happened which even if provided gets you no where and no assistance. The game glitches and throws you out during battles and takes things away but you better have screenshots and the EXACT time, date, and star alignment when it happened… even then I doubt you’d get assistance just an apology and a dismissal. I requested they delete all my data (which I will be confirming since I don’t trust them) Just a waste of time. There are plenty of other games JUST LIKE THIS ONE (even better) with good customer service and a proper working platform, I recommend downloading one of them instead of this nonsense.

While COC clones have never been my favorite apps for obvious reasons, this one was definitely my favorite out of the bunch and it used to hold a special place in my heart. There are very few quasi-historical games on DomiNations store, and this used to scratch that itch. However, it seems the original vision of the game has been clouded by greed, as there is not a single interaction you can have with this game without being bashed over the head with endless cash-grabs. By last few ages, progression is practically impossible without spending real money to be part of the “V.I.P.” system, which gives gamebreaking bonuses (as well as priority service/treatment with customer service!). It also holds your hand with forced tutorials as though you are completely brain dead, which was the final straw for me. I’ve put hundreds of hours into this game and it had the audacity to not let me interact with my base at all until it “explained” the bloodsucking seasonal leaderboard system. I’m done.
