I loved BabyNameGenius, even though it didn’t have many of the names I looked for. I liked how the info was organized and I thought it was very informative, entertaining, and interesting.
They changed the format lately and I cannot give more than 1 star. It went from 5 to 1. I’m so sad I cannot access the same information anymore.
While BabyNameGenius has a ton of names and interesting data, it’s not conducive to browsing names or quick-adding them to a favorites list. You have to go to a name’s info page in order to favorite it. But then, once you click on a name, there’s no “back” button to take you the list you were looking at. You have to go to the main menu, choose the list again, and scroll down to where you’d left off. I tried this for about 10 minutes before giving up. Not worth your time.
There are so many names that I added in myself because they were missing! A lot of meanings are missing from the names as well, and some meanings of names are either incorrect or incomplete (I.e. “Jaden” isn’t just derived from “colorful bird” in Latin. It’s also derived from Hebrew “thankful.” There’s no option to add in community input into a name. Search options could use a little bit of improvement, but BabyNameGenius gets the job done- I have a list of names now!
A few things that would improve BabyNameGenius :
1. An additional option that lets you “like” or “love” a name but lets you mark that you do not want to use it because you have someone too close to you with the name (a cousin, another sibling, or it’s the name of someone you don’t like).
2. A way to sort by different themes and popularities.
I had BabyNameGenius when I was pregnant 5 years ago and loved all the features. I deleted it in a huge purge to save space on my phone and downloaded it again recently. Now all of the amazing features are no longer free. Not worth it for me to pay to upgrade, bummer that I lost all of the great data. But, if it’s worth it to you, the occupations, politics etc, are really fascinating to learn.
The first complaint is that the voices don’t always pronounce the name right like Lathan Isabel Izzy it Isabella
The second complaint is that it doesn’t have other options of spelling for the names but overall I guess I can give BabyNameGenius a👍🏻
I enjoy this name app as it is much quicker to get through a list than some others I have used. The only downside is some of the pronunciations are so far off it’s actually pretty funny. Overall, I really enjoy using this over the others.
Easy to go from a long list of names (e.g. “popular”) into details on one, but no way to back out and return to list. Annoying to navigate and scroll back into place. Otherwise a pretty good app.
There is a great selection and variety of names. You can easily lose track of time perusing through BabyNameGenius. However, I wish there was a ‘back’ button to return to the previous page. For example, if I click on a ‘similar name’ I can’t return to the original name I was viewing. Or if I click on a name from a list, I am unable to return to the list and/or the spot I was on.
Overall like the variety of names to choose from. The data and complementary name suggestions really sold me as well as being able to do this with my partner. Where BabyNameGenius completely fails is this forced separation of girl/boy names and always having to toggle. It’s really annoying. And there’s no way to search unisex names. Lose the forced gender separation for 5 stars.
We live in the Information Age so I typically expect my information free. But it was worth paying 1.99 to have all of the information organized the way it was.
We ended up finding names for our twins that we could both agree on.
I've always been curious about the meaning of names, their popularity, and other facts so BabyNameGenius has been really great. Almost every name I've searched for has been here. I would highly recommend if you're looking for a baby name or if you're simply curious about names. :)
I'm shocked there aren't more reviews on BabyNameGenius! BabyNameGenius has tons of details that I've never seen on any other naming apps! And I would say more names to offer. It's easy to use and fun to learn what all of the names mean, the origins, etc. My favorite thing about BabyNameGenius is that it offers suggestions on what names would work with the name you've searched and other nAmes that are similar to it as well.
I've played around with lots of apps and this one is great. Start searching for what you like and it'll give you endless suggestions. Easy to save favorites and search for similar names based on what you like!
I love BabyNameGenius! Lots of interesting details about the names. Wish it had more browse and search capabilities. For example, what are the most popular girl names in the last 100 years in the USA that start with M.
I love that BabyNameGenius is so informative. Not only does it tell you about each name, but it also suggests similar names which is really helpful when searching for baby names!
This is a silly title for a review, but as a statistician and a dad I do love BabyNameGenius. I try not to push my opinions on expecting parents, but I always recommend BabyNameGenius for exploring baby names. There are a lot of really nifty features to help consider a range of names.
Great information and easy to use. Clean design. Even though I’m done having kids, I love having it on my phone to reference when I need.
I love being able to see the historical popularity of names, being able to sort by era, and also being able to hear the name just to make sure you’ve picked out the correct spelling for the pronunciation you desire.
I've recommended BabyNameGenius to all my pregnant friends and relatives. It's super easy to use and has helped my hubby and I a ton when it comes to naming our expected baby. My only complaint is that there isn't a "spelling variations" option so you'll see a ton of different versions of the same names depending on how parents spelled it. But BabyNameGenius is free and has been so useful that I certainly won't mark it down for that!
