Worse to worst

Since upgrade, when I open DenverPostDigitaleEdition it requires sign in which - eventually, after a lot of spinning/loading time - takes me to the new “customer” web page where I enter my credentials and then instead of going back to DenverPostDigitaleEdition automatically, like before, I have to tap the “digital products” tab and select Replica. But it just opens the web version of the replica edition with all the clutter and obnoxious layout. I haven’t been able to actually use the replica edition APP since the upgrade. To the Vulture owners of the Denver Post: if you are intentionally trying to run the newspaper into the ground by driving online subscribers away, then kudos to you. I hate this digital experience now, and have already been SO disappointed by the changes at the Post since you took ownership. Since I already have a subscription to the New York Times (I’m a Denver native, so don’t think I’m a transplanted snob), why should I even continue subscribing to your paper when so much of the content is coming from the NYT? I’d appreciate a response but don’t expect one since DenverPostDigitaleEdition has had about a 1 star rating forever.

Major improvements with the latest update.

My previous rating was one star, but I’m taking it up to four stars with the latest updates to the iPad app. Major improvements, bravo! I would make it five except for pages snapping to the side covering text when you expand an article, page turn buttons still often go unresponsive if you pinch to reduce from the expanded view and it’s annoying that the page turn buttons disappear requiring one tap to wake up and another to turn the page. But overall, a much better experience with the updates.

Perfect

Since retiring to our new home in the foothills close to Florence, co, this is the first time that I have received the Denver post with out any glitches. I use my I-pad at the kitchen table every morning and love reading the paper at breakfast. In the past I often had to sign in with my password which would be rejected repeatedly which would then force me to open my e-mail to access the paper which was harder to navigate on my I-pad. My husband and I depend on getting our news by reading the daily newspapers. We believe that every citizen should educate themselves everyday by reading,Our country would be far better off than we are today.

Please move the control panel

I do enjoy reading the Denver Post on my iPad because I refuse to pay the high cost of a seven day a week paper delivery. The only thing I can complain about is the fact that all the controls are on the right hand side of my screen and that is very easy to touch by mistake. So while reading an article suddenly I will get a magazine advertisement that I don’t want and have to delete it. I think that these controls should be at the top of the screen so that you don’t accidentally touch them while you are reading an article. These buttons are hypersensitive and will be set off accidentally very easily.
But overall, it is a good way to read the paper if you don’t want to pay the exorbitant price of the monthly printed issues.

Crashes constantly

Update: DenverPostDigitaleEdition has gotten better, but I’ll leave my original one star review as a reminder to DP to keep working on it and improving DenverPostDigitaleEdition .
Why is it so hard for the Denver Post to provide a newspaper app that actually works? It seems to have a functionality issue at least once per week, and I keep having to delete DenverPostDigitaleEdition and reload it. Today I did that, and it still keeps giving me yesterday’s newspaper. This is a very unreliable app. It often crashes then asks me to log in again, but when I try to log in it won’t let me. I love reading the morning newspaper, but I guess I’ll have to start watching the morning news on television. Ugggggghh!!!

Easy to read

Once i got used to the new app, i liked the features & can read & navigate the paper easily. They do still put in a few flashing ads which i find very distracting & don’t appreciate in a paper i’m paying for. Also, i have asked them several times to add an additional font size in selected articles. It jumps from 1 to 1.5 which is too much. One is too small and 1.5 is too big. They need a 1.25 in between. Other than those two small complaints, i like DenverPostDigitaleEdition .

It’s not terrible when it works

When DenverPostDigitaleEdition works, it provides a nice, convenient way to read the Post on my tablet. Unfortunately, it seems to fail about once a month, at which time I cannot log in. I have a couple of other things I’d like to see fixed before I raise my rating. 1) It is pretty easy to download issues for offline reading and I love that. But then how do I delete a downloaded issue after reading it? There’s no obvious method other than removing DenverPostDigitaleEdition and all its data, then reinstalling DenverPostDigitaleEdition ? There’s no way that was the intended design spec. 2) when you attempt to contact app developer support from Apple’s App Store, the link is not valid! Please give DenverPostDigitaleEdition the attention it deserves and fix these piddling easy things!

Upgrade was a downgrade

The pages don’t advance well and, when you want to jump to continue reading an article, more often than not, it jumps you back to page 1. It’s too quirky. For as much as I pay for a yearly subscription, it should work far better. Go back to the old platform.
Update: still pretty bad. The latest quirk is advancing to the next page only to find images but no text. Still having problems with page advancement.
Update to my update: thanks to another reviewer, I learned the “classic” e-edition version was still available. I switched back and have no issues.

Better than many others

Except for the full page furniture ads, it’s really nice to feel like you are paging through a “real “ newspaper instead of reading a blog, like so many of the other news apps. Also, enlarging and shrinking articles to read on screen works flawlessly. I hate how other apps flip you into text mode when you tap on an article. I highly recommend using a 12-inch tablet and an easel or music stand, so you can read the paper while eating breakfast, just like the old days.

Good but can be better

I’ve been a reader since April ‘20 after moving here from the Midwest. Although DenverPostDigitaleEdition makes reading the paper easier I think it could be programmed for even easier reading.

I suggest the program give access to the full article if the reader selects an article whose story is split between pages and the reader selects the latter portion of the article to expand and read. Currently DenverPostDigitaleEdition only displays the latter portion of the article.

I’d also suggest moving the article photos to the top of the article when the art or story is opened in DenverPostDigitaleEdition .

Love seeing the full page layout

Being able to see how the paper is laid
out is a big part of understanding how editors prioritize the news. DenverPostDigitaleEdition allows me to easily follow a story when clicking on it, but also judge the importance of the story by seeing where it’s placed within the paper. I get a more comprehensive look at the news and feel like I’m getting the same experience I loved when I used to received my paper copy.

At long last…

… a stable, easy to use app that displays well—and fast—on modern, hi-resolution tablet displays that checks all the boxes: sticky authentication, check; quick loading (depending on your connection, of course), check; multiple view options, check; save/print/export options, check; and an option to translate articles into 11 other languages. (!!!) Finally, a simple but welcome change to the startup screen from the industrial bathroom floor texture to a simple deep red panel with the Post logo.

Great Interface

I work in publishing, so I appreciate a good user interface that mirrors the experience of reading the physical copy.

DenverPostDigitaleEdition is intuitive and easy to use. I love being able to see the layout of the features as they would appear in the print paper, while also being able zoom in on the individual articles and experience them in reader mode. I highly recommend DenverPostDigitaleEdition.

Going downhill fast

If I had a choice to read the Denver Post in another reader I would. The current version only lets you look back, but once you have passed a date hope you never want to look at that paper. I am only able to read the current paper on a daly bases. After two weeks I can look at all back issues again. I also have noticed that the picture sometimes will shrink up when you zoom in.

You Blew It

To put it succinctly, your recent ‘UPDATE(?)’ of your DP app is a loser! The old app worked just fine. In fact I sent a recommendation to the LA Times to your the previous version of your app as a model for them to improve theirs.

As it stands now, your updated(?) app takes me to your Welcome Page (with 3-options); and when I select the option it takes me to DenverPostDigitaleEdition Store; then gives me one option to your DP app; when I select , it takes me back to the Welcome Page and the same 3-options. I’ve repeated this cycle several times daily and then I give up.

To help your website designer, I will reduce the size of your databaseI - won’t be renewing my subscription!

Ps: I’ll be surprised if this review read by someone who gives a ‘rip’!

Like the sharing feature

DenverPostDigitaleEdition is pretty decent. I like that you can expand on page or open an article to read on mobile devices. Also appreciate the sharing feature - it’s nice to be able to easily send a text with a link to an article. One thing that could be smoother is the launch flow from the daily email preview. It always prompts for “remember my choice?” and I repeatedly check yes which means it’s never remembering my choice.

Hello-anyone listening?

This is still the worst app on iPad. Today DenverPostDigitaleEdition started serving up the replica edition of the newspaper inside a web browser interface. So now we get to deal with more ads that slide into view. Watch where you touch, you can get into a loop selecting text, opening a pop-up window with just the article, which you then close only to open it again the next time you touch the screen.

The UI also asks for login credentials every time you open DenverPostDigitaleEdition and it works worse than before (hard to believe).

Hope someone reads this review, chances are good since you can’t read the paper with DenverPostDigitaleEdition

Denver post digital

Sometimes a challenge to access the desired article… page reverts to page one. However, overall, very helpful & easy to find articles.
Would like to have it easier to share articles by sending an article in reading with someone who isn’t a subscriber. Any suggestions on making that easy to do would be appreciated. Thanks for producing a first class newspaper.

Late Oct. 2020 update is awesome!!

I think it is so important to support local newspapers and planned to do my reading on my iPad (though still sometimes browse the Sunday hard Old app was really bad by today’s standards. But to my surprise in late October there was an update and it is a complete overhaul. Liked it so much I posted this 4 stars for app rounded up to 5 because of good local coverage. Keep rockin the local news coverage!!

Like reading the daily, almost . . .

The DP replica App works well most of the time. On a tablet especially being able to go enlarge the article easily makes reading the newspaper almost better than having the paper in your hand.

There are times though where the flipping of pages gets finicky and doesn’t wan’t to “snap” to the next page or the arrow buttons stop functioning. Keep tweaking please!

Takes your money but won’t let you read.

This is the most complicated and difficult to use app I have ever encountered. Click on the Red Replica Edition App (pay first of course) and it pops up and says you are unauthorized and need to sign in to read this issue. Click on sign in and you get a new pop up that says there is a Sign In Error and the only option is to Dismiss. You click on that and you are back at the first screen and round and round you go.
Every other newspaper makes this easy. Los Angeles Times sends an email each day very early in the morning and all I have to do is click on it and I am reading the replica edition with no problems at all. The Summit County News in Frisco CO has a daily email and all you need to do is click on it and you are reading. WSJ is easy to use and none of this daily log in nonsense and sending you in circles trying to get what you paid for.
The Denver Post makes it difficult if not impossible to read what has been paid for. This is basically fraud.
DON’T WASTE YOUR MONEY ON THIS NEWSPAPER

What a sad app

Does anyone at the Post care that DenverPostDigitaleEdition fails continually. For those of us that don’t get the physical paper, what are we paying for when the replica won’t open 1) because of faulty sign in process that requires rebooting 2) days when the latest daily addition won’t download and 3) now a message that says my internet connection isn’t working RETRY. Yet every other news app I have I can connect to. I would love a reliable source for local news. Unfortunately, the owners of the Post don’t seem to share that goal. What exactly am I paying for?

July 18, 2020: Time to pull the plug on this app

This will be my third and final update to my review of DenverPostDigitaleEdition. It has always been frustrating, with functionality mostly on a downward trajectory, coinciding with the gutting of the newsroom that began 10 years ago when the Post was acquired by a faceless hedge fund. Today, the Digital Replica app appears as a mish mash of pages, in different formats, from different sections of the paper. Try clicking on an article to read it and it merely takes you to another page of commingle articles.

What an incredibly sad decline of a once great paper.

App does not work

I’m ready to cancel The Denver Post. When it works DenverPostDigitaleEdition is acceptable. It rarely works anymore. The response to help is to delete DenverPostDigitaleEdition and reload it. After doing that multiple times, now DenverPostDigitaleEdition doesn’t even load. It’s a shame they don’t see online reading as the future and put some effort and customer service into it. According to this site, DenverPostDigitaleEdition has not been updated in a year. No wonder it doesn’t work.

By

Improved new app

Just used the new app today. I like the way that I can swipe through the articles and the pictures finally have captions. Big improvement over the old app and easier to use than the web version.

By

Terrible app

Once again I cannot access the current day’s paper. I cancelled the home delivery of the actual paper because the delivery service was terrible. The digital edition is even worse. Management obviously doesn’t care either way so I am cancelling completely and getting news elsewhere. The Denver Post is contributing to their own demise when people who want to pay for their product, cannot get it delivered in any manner.

By

Infantile technology

I frequently have problems accessing the morning Post Digital Replica Edition online vie the iPad app. Each time I write to complain, I am told that I need to refresh DenverPostDigitaleEdition . It may work later in the day or it may not. The help responses are slow and rote. I don’t have the same problem with the New York Times and other apps. What am I paying the Post for. The Digital Replica Edition replicates the previous skipped paper deliveries. Come on Denver Post, get your act together.

By

consistent problems

I suppose when you have no competition and no way for paying customers to communicate with you, it doesn’t matter if something works well. As someone stated in an earlier review, it’s fine when it’s working. It’s one thing to not be able to read your morning paper, but it’s pretty infuriating that there is no tech support to speak of.

By

How about zero stars?

Sadly this news(?) paper and its replica will likely prove things can get worse in a one horse town.
How often do I delete DenverPostDigitaleEdition, and then reload it hoping it’s my iPad’s fault that I can’t read the paper’s today edition?☹️ I’ve gone to 4 day delivery because of getting the paper delivered after 9 at an every increasing price. BUT then I can’t get the current replica.
DP deserves zero stars, but then you wouldn’t see my review.

By

Come on DP!

I agree with clapton500. This is insane. Pay over $200 to read the paper yet I can’t. WTH is going on?!?! I have other apps that are updated WEEKLY to work out the bugs and improve functionality. DenverPostDigitaleEdition hasn’t had any update or maintenance for over a year! They don’t give a poo about their on line readers! I’m banging my head against the wall as I should not have paid for another year of this frustration.

By

Sick and tired

I agree that when DenverPostDigitaleEdition works properly it does provide a convenient option for reading the Post; however, DenverPostDigitaleEdition fails to work properly or at all way too often. I have never experienced app failure even close to this bad for any other app.....and there is absolutely no support. Sadly, I am canceling my Denver Post subscription today. Save your money and sanity and avoid DenverPostDigitaleEdition!
