UniChar Unicode Keyboard Reviews

I need several specific characters to be able to type in Choctaw. One of those is "combining macron below" U+0331, which is missing. Also, search is broken. Search for "combining" and you will see several things that also have "below" in them but searching for "combining below" says no results. I would pay for UniCharUnicodeKeyboard and change my review if these things were fixed.

As the title says, Unichar was working flawlessly and has been for quite some time. I mainly used it as a add on keyboard for the keyboard function. Up until very recently everything was working fine but now it’s not showing up in the Settings->General->Keyboards nor ->Add new keyboards. I don’t know if it was a recent update that broke this for me. I’m on iOS 13.5.1 (due to work related reasons) hoping dev can figure this one out and soon I hope as I use Unichar on a daily basis (hence why I paid for all categories).

This keyboard is a real timesaver for entering international currency symbols, foreign language characters and all those commonly-used symbols missing from my ASCII keyboard (°©®¢). The user experience is a bit messy, however. The categories are so large. I suggest more focused categories. For example, a category for greeks, rather than only including them in different big categories like Phonetic and No (number). Also, I would really like to be able to hide Recents from the keyboard because the keyboard real estate is so limited. There is room for 35 visible characters in the keyboard without scrolling. I suggest that the category icons at the bottom of the keyboard be redefined to open an instance of the UniChar keyboard app preloaded to the selected category, allowing in-context selection of any char in that category (not just those set up as visible). That way, the keyboard itself becomes the user’s “favorites”, but any char can be searched for and entered easily without going through copy-and-paste.

Solid app that does exactly what it needs to do with bells and whistles that give you all the info you could ever want about a given character. Integrated keyboard makes it even better in chats and emails without having to open UniCharUnicodeKeyboard separately. Only recommendation would be to provide an iCloud sync of favorites across devices or at least an import/export feature to transfer saved favorites to other iOS devices (e.g. from iPhone to iPad or vice versa). 4.5 ★

It can't change fonts, which makes it unable to see characters in the Latin Extended-D range because it is stuck using Apple's defective default font for everything. Until this is fixed, you'll just be taunted by those boxes with question marks preventing you from typing in heavily abbreviated latin or making one-letter words by combining suprascript characters.
It also doesn't put a lot of unicode characters in its normal list.

So much to transcribe, so little time! UniChar provides all of the symbols and special characters needed for the precise transcription of lecture, research or any other notes in practically any discipline. The more symbols and characters you become familiar with, the greater your ability to condense the complex ideas and concepts you need to interpret and understand.

I like the keyboard, and I even purchased the paid upgrade. As of yet, however, I've been unable to find the Greek letter pi. One update I would suggest would be an entire section for Greek letter, and possibly a search feature.

I couldn’t get the keyboard to show on my iPhone. I emailed the dev and within 5 min there was a response and solution. You can’t PAY for that level of service. UniCharUnicodeKeyboard is amazing.

I only write reviews when I finally find an app that does something I’ve been searching for for a while. First, thank you, as now I don’t have to develop an app to do things myself. Second, two suggestions to prevent me from developing an app later. Allow users to add keys and categories. This way any characters that aren’t here, or any new characters can be added by the user, and also organized.

I bought UniCharUnicodeKeyboard for labeling Pokémon in pokemon go but it has been so useful/fun otherwise. Definitely goes just beyond utility and adds a personal touch to comments. Thank you for making UniCharUnicodeKeyboard. I thoroughly enjoy it.

Tbh when I got UniCharUnicodeKeyboard I thought it would be just like all the others until I saw it and it’s so cute fun and easy! I love the clear heart (♡) and the smiley face (☺︎). All of the emojis are cute but those are my faves ;) I 10/10 recommend and I tell my friends all about UniCharUnicodeKeyboard! I love it so much! ♡♛✌︎☺︎

UniCharUnicodeKeyboard is simply as good as it gets. It’s uncomplicated and easy to use, but it’s also packed with features like customizing tap/drag actions and how the many characters are displayed. It’s also beautifully designed. Perfect.

Exactly what I was looking for. Tempted to pay for the full version to show my appreciation, even though I definitely only downloaded it to be able to add the ™ symbol to my texts without having to Google for it.

Sometimes emoji fail me. Luckily, there’s apps like UniChar that let me tap into the power of Unicode.

And while there are other apps that do this, two very important qualities shared by UniChar are the simplicity of the interface and the friendliness of the developer.

I had an issue and the dev was quick to reply and offer assistance, as well as appreciating the feedback.

The latest update returned the beloved tap-to-copy feature that was previously implemented but removed for the UI update. This makes an already easy to use app one step easier. It’s impossible for me not to recommend this to anyone.

This is a must have for me!! Special characters is something I use often in my free time in my creative outlets and nothing has such a depth of characters in a beautiful package so well maintained- if only iOS let us use *every single option offered* already- it would make a five-star app a six!

I needed a Unicode symbols app and this one is definitely the best. The keyboard works great and it’s also really easy to search for and copy symbols within UniCharUnicodeKeyboard itself. Also, unlike other apps, UniCharUnicodeKeyboard will save your recently-used symbols in the beginning section of the keyboard which is very helpful. Nice work!

Very user friendly app with a pleasant design interface. No account creation or login needed which was a great surprise since it seems that every other app on the planet now requires an account to use. Straightforward and not only gets the job done but gets it done effortlessly. Thanks for a clean and fully functional Unicode character app!

UniCharUnicodeKeyboard is actually amazing. I have a class right now that uses a lot of math symbols and its so nice being able to type those equations out quickly when asking and giving help to my classmates

One feature i’d like to request would be the search bar in the actual keyboard itself. It would make things far easier to find.

I just downloaded this earlier today and have had a lot of fun with texts tonight. ☺︎ It does exactly what I expected it to do, in fact it’s even easier to navigate than I expected it to be. I’m confident in UniCharUnicodeKeyboard over any other Unicode app I’ve seen, it seems that whenever there has been a problem, the DEV gets right on it for a fix. That’s refreshing, I’m not used to that kind of quick turnaround! I’m using the free version, so far everything has been great. Thank you! ☆

Shows more of the legal range of characters than I will ever be able to use. At least hope so - it even includes Braille, and ❜though 😀- if you have if active you❜ll see what I mean here, ❜causs I❜m using alternate single curly quotes here if they getv through UniCharUnicodeKeyboard Store/dev censors here𒑰𒑰

I used to have to hunt forever to find special characters then copy paste it sucked.

Now this saves sooo much time and googling

Sometimes you need a special symbol for a technical reason but it’s also just fun to have quick access to symbols that aren’t overused emoji. ☺︎

Access a large array of symbols, icons, characters, pictographs &c. from your iOS keyboard and feel the instant gratification of saying more with less. Some of these symbols have been around 3,000yrs+

You can only switch from Unichar to another keyboard using the lower left keyboard button. If an app is not updated for use on the iPhone X the bottom bar where that button would be is just a black bar and the button doesn't exist therefore the only way to change it is to go to settings and delete unichar/reinstall unichar. The default keyboard moves the button to the original position when an app isn't compatible. Used this keyboard a lot on my previous phone, but it's a pain in its current state.

Update: 1 day after posting my review the developer addressing the issue and the next day an update fixing it was released. Great work.
