About: Temblor gives individuals the tools to understand their personal earthquake
risk. Temblor provides free individualized earthquake risk information to the
public.

About Temblor

Temblor merges earthquake catalogs from the major seismic agencies around the world into one real-time display of global earthquakes in the past 24 hours, 2 days, 7 days or 30 days.

Read breaking news about major earthquakes, post-quake analyses and the latest developments in earthquake science in easy-to-understand language.

Temblor provides free individualized earthquake risk information to the public.

Following major or particularly notable quakes, Temblor rapidly publishes accurate post-event analyses to inform the public and support institutional and commercial responses.

“Articles” brings you to Temblor Earthquake News, a news platform dedicated to earthquake reporting.

Under the “Your Risk” tab, enter your home address (or a city, state or geographic landmark) or find your location and instantly see the earthquake magnitude that location is likely to experience in your lifetime.

Temblor gives individuals the tools to understand their personal earthquake risk.

Temblor will send you a notification when an earthquake strikes near your location.

Various agencies around the world distribute early earthquake warnings to earthquake-prone regions.

Temblor is an approved Google News source and has been cited in major news outlets.

This is NOT an earthquake early warning and is not intended to inform you of impending shaking.

Temblor’s mission is to provide the public with accurate, accessible, and understandable information about earthquakes.

Use the map layers to explore various hazards including shaking, liquefaction susceptibility, wildfire hazard and more (depending on location).

This distinguishes us from other risk model vendors (e.g., RMS, AIR, CoreLogic), which are closed to the public.

Does not have functionality as shown in preview

Version 4.1.0 and website - I cannot get anything other than different versions of risk maps. No way to access the individual building risk assessment screen as shown in the first iOS App Store preview screenshot.
Very suspicious as other reviewers have complained about this for years, yet not addressed!

Add this feature please

This is a nice app but what it really needs is the ability to utilize the iPhone accelerometer to detect earthquakes and automatically share that data to the cloud and/or the USGS.

Only when enough similar readings are detected from a certain region within a narrow timeframe would the data be considered legitimate and then be pushed back out to the map for all users to view.

Temblor could also be active only at certain times of the day/night that the user defines. As well as only be active when connected to pre-defined wifi networks. Such as Home or work.

Another option would be to only take accelerometer reading when it is plugged into power (such as when on your night stand or connected to a computer USB).

Temblor could also use the iPhone GPS to disable sensor reading when moving. As well as only record seismic data when Temblor detects the iPhone is laying flat on its back.

Another option would be to disable the seismic sensor data output when a face is detected with the front facing camera.

Requiring Temblor to be running in the foreground would also further prevent false readings.

This could easily, quickly, and cheaply create a huge network of seismographs around the world.

Love love love it!

I love that Temblor gives me recents earthquakes around my area and my hazard risk of my home. I also like that the people who came up with Temblor are scientist so the information is coming from a creditable source. I went to the actual website and they have tons of blogs on recent earthquakes so I can understand more and not just have news but actual earthquake info in detail! Can't wait until next update.

The core features don’t work

For some reason, the interface for me doesn’t even resemble what the screenshots show. Few examples: quake insights section is empty/blank, I can’t see any fault lines, fault zones don’t display, and there isn’t anything displayed regarding risk or retrofit costs.

The legend box displays and layers do show their corresponding key in the legend box, however, no data is displayed on the map. Sometimes the map changes zoom level depending on the layer I selected, but I might as well just use Apple Maps for the basic functionality I’m getting out of Temblor - i.e. satellite view...

Good thing you have a web interface that can display relevant data for me. Even that works only half the time, though, randomly returning me to an Access Denied screen every few minutes while I try to browse and modify various risk assessment options.

What gives? Happy to update review rating if you can help me get this working.

Worst privacy policy of any app I’ve yet seen

There is ZERO reason I should or would give my phone number to a company I don’t know and that has nothing to do with telephony. In fact, there’s no reason at all to require signup for Temblor in the first place. On reading the privacy policy, the company has the right to give your phone number to any third-party business for any reason, including “to sell products or services to you”. I already get enough spam calls and texts, thanks.

Love this program!

Temblor is really nice, well designed, and really easy to use. I had some personal questions on Temblor preferences and the creator sent a response within 15 minutes of my email being sent! Impressive!!! Give this program a try, you will like it.

Awesome App!

I've tried many earthquake apps and this is by far my favorite. Easy to use and lots of customization options. If you want to find out how big that last "jolt" was or just an eq junkie, this is Temblor for you. It still amazes me to see graphically how many temblors are around me.

Very user-friendly app!

Temblor is very easy to use, very easy to navigate and most importantly, very easy to customize to show what you want to see (from color of the background to area of interest and magnitude of concern)! Highly recommended!

Best earthquake app I have used

This is the earthquake app
I have used. I like The ability of entering my address and seeing how safe my location is

By

Hard to keep track on the area if interest

Love Temblor, except that is imposible to keep the setting the way you want it. Keep going back to all over the world magnitud 2. I will like to see my region only and 3+. Thank you for your attention on this matter. Timing is excellent. If you add this features will get 5 star.

EastCoast Transplant

Great app, very informative. It is amazing to see how many earthquakes happen each and every day and to see them all on a map at the same time.

By

Great app...

This is a very nice handy app and provides real time shake outs. Color is very pleasing and the features are very unique. I would definitely recommend Temblor.

Beautiful, easy to use interface

Great app! Useful information you can't find anywhere else displayed cleanly.

By

Nice app!!

Very nice app. Very accurate and easy to use. Really like how easy it is to customize it.

By

Lots Of Bugs...

...the main one annoying me is that it will not keep the filter parameters I set. I only want to know/read about magnitude 4 or higher, it keeps resetting to magnitude 2 (of which there are hundreds each day).

Useful quake risk map

I love Temblor for checking liquifaction and mudslide hazards around the Bay Area. Very useful planning tool.

MVP bom

Great app! Easy to use and educational. Interesting to see earthquakes around the world.

Shake it!

Great app! Easy to use and gives great info

By

Been using it for years. No more due to privacy.

Temblor now requires you to submit your mobile phone number. Not gonna happen.

By

inappropriate

asks for a lot of inappropriate information to register app

By

There’s a lot of bugs, need update

On the layers checklist, faults/ca faults, liquefaction (sometimes works if changing terrain but not always). Other than that, it’s a great app to see latest earthquake map and hopefully in the near future you’ll be able to give out some sort of warning if it’s a big one and hopefully a good distance away so there’s some time to get ready

Horrible since update

Nothing like the previous versions of Temblor.
