I paid months ago for no adds, you took my money, yet, still no response from customer service! My tv is 5 feet away, yet it picks up the tv on the floor above me (my other apps work fine with my tv. I hate to give bad, nasty reviews without speaking to customer service first, it doesn’t seem fair. But, you will honor my purchase, apparently to not care about your customers, and will respond to my requests for help or a refund. And don’t tell me it is too late, because I have a time stamped message asking for assistance. Thank you. I Bhopal if you purchase Sam you are aware of “absence of customer service” I sure COVID doses not cause this amount of disrespect.

Sam always has trouble connecting to my television even though both are on the same Wi-Fi network. I usually have to try five times and it finally works. You will spend most of your time trying to connect to your TV in frustration. Be warned.

Update months later... Still the same situation. I have to go through the same song and dance with Sam every single time I load it. I try to connect four times finally says it connects on the fifth time but it is not really connected so then I have to try again and finally get it to connect for real on the sixth time and then it finally works. It gets really old.

Another update more months later:

I have figured out that it takes five attempts to connect the remote to Wi-Fi before it will give you notification that it has been connected but then you have to let it connect at least three times or it won’t actually be connected. It’s literally two minutes of cumbersome annoyance before watching my program each night. Balderdash.

Totally and absolutely unresponsive with my Samsung MU6500 and my Samsung 4k Blu Ray player. NONE of the buttons work, even though it supposedly “detected” my TV and/or connection almost immediately. “And/or”? Yeah, because since touching those buttons have on my TV the same result as me tapping on a rock, I
Really cannot tell what was “detected”. To make matters worse, every other action you do triggers an app. I am VERY knowledgeable on HDTVs and all their peripherals, I probably know more about them than whoever “designed” this thing, so a NEWBIE I am not. There is no mistake on my part, this junk of an app doesn’t work and if you want nicer reviews get your $&$! together and DESIGN an app that at least WORKS. Unless “functionality” is too much to ask. First off, Sam works great as a substitute for my lost Samsung remote. Easy to setup without any issues. The biggest complaint is the amount of ads that pop up literally every 30 seconds-one minute. I’m no stranger to pop ups and I’m normally pretty patient. I understand if Sam is free I’ll have to put up with them or pay for the ad-free version. However, it’s insane how many there are. I’ve never encountered a free app with as many pop ups. It’s especially annoying as I’m going through a series of button presses and all of a sudden an ad appears.

I’m ready to ditch this and purchase a universal remote or switch to a different app. Lessen the amount of ads and Sam would be much more useable.

App works perfectly, efficiently, and EXTREMELY easy. Some idiot in another review complains about having to have both devices on WiFi - who in 2018 doesn’t have their phone on WiFi at home, and their SmartTV on WiFi also?!
Ads are annoying, but screw it just pay the $6 to own Sam and they’re gone. Way cheaper and faster than buying a new remote, and it’s SO convenient. Most of us are already on our phones texting etc, now you can be EXTRA lazy and you don’t even have to pick up the remote to change the channel or hit Continue Watching while bingeing on Netflix lol... this is one App that truly deserves 5 stars.
It even has a option to help you buy a new remote if you really want a replacement lol. Bravo!

I fell for the clean look and the promise of no ads! Well good look isn’t worth not being able to check an email or FB or any other thing while the remote is on. The program stops and it doesn’t just stop it goes back to main menu. Also, I probably could have lived with that but I paid $6.99 for no ads and when I deleted this remote to try another one and then came back there were ads again and so when I decided to give it another try there was no record of me paying the no ads fee. I looked over my whole phone and nothing. It’s just not worth the aggravation. App may look pretty but looks aren’t everything. Actually working well as it said it would is a necessity!

Sam used to be pretty handy; I lost my remote over a year ago and have been using Sam for my Samsung Smart tv ever since. Just a week ago there was a new update that turned Sam into complete trash - every few button presses you get an ad that pops up and takes over the whole screen. Unless you’re constantly looking down at the buttons you’re pressing, you’ll get an ad redirecting you to some random website from just trying to turn up your volume or change the channel. They also added ads to the “scan” feature, so you’ve got to wait on an ad before you can even connect to your TV to be bombarded by ads. 0/10 - these devs killed their app for ad revenue

I have never ever witnessed such an obnoxious use of ads. They come like machine gun bullets, one after the other. In one minute you can get a dozen. And they force you to stay there for a long time, disrupting your ability to use the remote. Ridiculously greedy from Sam developer. Ok, if you want to sustain yourself with ads, that is an acceptable bargain. But this is not that. It is badgering to force everyone away from ads to pay for Sam . So then be honest and charge from the get go so people know what they are getting. If you don’t plan to pay for the premium ad feature, know it will be close to impossible to operate the remote because of the intrusive nature of the ads.

First of all, THIS THING WILL NOT WORK AT ALL IT WORKED FOR A DAY THEN IT STOPPED WORKING! Second, this has nothing but adds, every time you will press a button, an add will appear out of nowhere!
I thought my life was saved but it was worse! My Samsung remote lost its button recently so my mom went to Sam and it was worse than before. We bought a new remote and today it stopped working. I was just watching TV then I went over to my remote to change the channel but it won’t work. This all happened after I got Sam .
Usually I give apps a better review but Sam is terrible and this will take control of your TV and make your life worse, like what it did to me. I do not recommend Sam at all! If the developer of Sam is reading this, please respond and make Sam better! Thank you!

I have NEVER written a review. Good or bad. Sam is by far the worst app I’ve ever experienced and I hope someone reads this and looks elsewhere.

My remote broke and I needed something in the mean time so I downloaded Sam. I can only press one button before an ad pops up. One button. Then after that I think I get 7 to 8 touches before another ad pops up. It’s always ads. Constantly. They never stop. Want it to stop? Pay $6. $6 isn’t that much you say? The physical remote is $10!!!! I have never seen so many ads on an app before. Sitting though traffic in NYC would be more appealing than when you rewind and oh hey look, an ad! Have to go back to where I was now and when you finally get there, boom another ad!
This is the worst app in Sam Store. Hands down. I wish there were negative stars so we could get this thing canceled.
WORST APP EVER.

Sam works great but it’s absurd after paying hundreds of dollars for a tv I have to pay for the remote. I have multiple TVs 4 to be exact and I can’t use the remotes that came with the TVs because they work all 4 TVs at the same time. Sam allows ,e to work the TVs separately but if I bought 4 Samsung tvs including an 82” why does Samsung need 6.99 from me. Also, I did pay the one time fee but u can only use the ad free access on 6 devices then u need to pay again if u have more devices. Everyone in my family uses their own device to work the TVs when they r watching so now I have to pay an additional 6.99. Absurd!!!!

To start off, when I first downloaded Sam it connected to my Tv just fine... the only reason I need this is because I haven’t seen the actual controller in like a year.

And because it was easy to connect it gets an extra star, because from the reviews I’ve seen on other controllers, weren’t happy about connecting it.

Sam would be perfect... if it didn’t have ads. I get it that you need to make money and it’s free to download, but $6?! You can get rid of ads on Tetris for $5.

This is a TV controller.
Tetris is a free video game and it has less ads than this.

I believe that a TV controller should have little to no ads because who needs them. As I said, it’s a controller. You’re supposed to be turning up the volume not clicking out of ads.

Another complaint is how slow the buttons click, not too much of a bother for me but it still is annoying. I’ll tap the volume button 5 times and it’ll turn it up by 2 (then pops up an ad).

My recommendation, if you want a decent controller, honestly, go buy an actual one.

But if you don’t really care about advertisements that have nothing to do with their $6 to have freedom from a random app. Then download this.

It’s not that bad, without ads, my only complaint is that if you want to turn it up higher you have to wait about 2 seconds for every tap. Which is easy to get used to.

The advertisements are completely out of control. There are videos with sound that you can't exit out of until you watch a given amount of the ad first. When switching from another app to the this app remote it will initially display the remote screen before reloading another advertisement which leads to clicking on the screen only to be hijacked to the advertisement's webpage. When you come back from that advertisement to open use the remote you GET ANOTHER AD!!!! It is incredibly annoying.

I'd prefer to pay for an app like this since a replacement physical remote is prohibitively expensive, but I'm guessing the greedy developers make more money from this kind of blitzkrieg advertising than they would charging for Sam . Reminds me of the Black Mirror episode 15 million merits.

I’ve used Sam for a while and it’s always worked perfectly. My one reservation is that whenever I’d open Sam , was idle for a while, or revisit Sam from another app an advertisement would come up. It was understandable, it’s how they make money. But since the newest update there are now ads for every (about) 20 times you press a button on the remote! It is quite ridiculous if I’m trying to type something on my tv. Sometimes it may take 10 clicks to navigate to a single letter it gets ridiculous when 5+ ads come up when typing one title into the tv. Functionality definitely affected by the ads.

I like the features of Sam. However one big issue I have is if I turn the TV off with the real Samsung remote (not Sam nor the Samsung app), I cannot turn on the TV with Sam. One main reason for Sam is to use it if you lose or misplace your remote. This needs to be fixed ASAP. If you cannot time on the tb with Sam , it defeats the purpose of it. Sam will work if the tv is turned on already either manually or with the real remote. If I turn off the TV with Sam , it seems to turn on fine afterwards. The Roku TVs and apps behave correctly. This one doesn’t with the power on scenario just described.

Stores apparently don’t carry company specific remotes anymore and I really needed a remote. Downloaded Sam the ads were literally every 5 seconds so I bought ad free. I needed a remote and it was only $6. Ad free works ok I’ve noticed that after I’ve been in Sam too long or pressed a few too many buttons at the same time (change the channel then turn up the volume) I have to leave Sam , come back then the buttons will work again. Idk if it’s a connection issue or what but every 7 clicks or so, I have to leave Sam and come back for the buttons to work.

I was able to quickly pair with my neighbor’s tv when visiting their house and learning they had lost their remote control. Works great, but I wasn’t thrilled when going to Netflix and having to use the arrow controls to pick one letter at a time instead of having an alphanumeric keyboard available to type the name of the movie with. It doesn’t make sense for that feature to be missing.

I have give thanks for Sam I tried other apps and they either don’t work or asking too much for a remote and subscription with this remote I use all my functions it doesn’t matter if I get off the remote app to go do something else I can get back on Sam and it works fine I do say this is a must purchase so you don’t have a problem of theApps the only thing that I would highly recommend is like a touch search button that you can use when you’re surfing the web other than that it’s remote does everything except trying to search the web on your TV those other Remotes that are out there might look better or say they do better and even have the touch remote so you can use Like a mouse when you surf the web trust me I’ve tried them they do not work thanks for looking at my review

My remote broke so I downloaded this ap and I’ve been using it and haven’t even replaced my remote once you connect it’s like a remote in your phone and the ads have never been a problem to me there’s only 1 every few touches or minutes but still Sam is a good one I haven’t even needed my remote fixed or replaced yet “and it’s really fun to mess with people just connect to there WiFi and access Sam to there tv and your rolling laugh out loud, “good app 9/10

My Samsung remote, for some odd reason, interferes and works (with no clear direction) on my 2 Black+Decker tower fans. It shuts them off, changes all the settings, and does it with every other click of the remote sometimes. And, I lost the fan remote, so now we have to keep resetting them. Also, just…not losing the remote, and sometimes I’ll forget to power off the TV, or decide it’s bedtime and don’t feel like going back into the living room to shut off the TV… it shuts off from other rooms just using Sam . Worth the purchase.

Sam was okay up until recently...before it had a few pop up ads before using and sometimes it was hard to detect the tv which was fine as long as you scanned tvs...but now there are way way way too many ads and pop ups while using the remote...every 5 seconds a pop up ad would appear and it would take a long time before you could exit the ad and continue using the remote ! Ridiculous...i get how ads make money but seriously every 5 seconds ? It used to not be like this...also every time i use the remote i have to constantly scan to look for the tv every time i want to use it !

I wanted an alternative to my tv remote so I downloaded. Upon set-up, I learned that both my phone and my tv had to be set up to the same network. That’s not a problem.

My tv was set-up with a writer connection and my phone was on the same internet connection. However, the tv could not be found. I then set-up the tv with a witless connection, but it could still not be found.

I don’t know if this is an isolated incident, but upon looking at previous reviews, it seems to work well with other users, hence it did not receive a 1 star. However, the ads do seem mildly annoying.

I previously gave Sam 1 star because the ads were so annoying. After playing around with Sam I found out that you can upgrade Sam for a fee to remove the ads. I would of give it 5 stars but I decided to take away one star because the developer should make it simple to upgrade. I notice that many people leaving their review are complaining about the ads.

This is a simple and handy app. To get the best experience I would pay the fee. It costs less than a physical remote and your phone most likely will not get lost compared to a TV remote. Best part is, if you lose your phone you can transfer everything over to a new device on iOS. So your remote virtually can never be lost. Works great with kids as well. No more worrying about them messing with the remote controls.
