I used to use this app and I loved it. I have since got a new phone, and cannot find this app ANYWHERE!?? Did it change it's name, or does anyone know?

Love in spite of bugs

Ever since using a professional nutrition program in college I've been trying to find an app or program like this. It is a great tool at keeping track of overall nutrition which is what I was looking for. I was able to find several nutrition gaps in my diet, recognize that I did have the symptoms of deficiency too, and start tweaking the foods I'm eating and taking specific supplements to fill those gaps I simply couldn't fill. It has been a very positive addition to my lifestyle and I've had several of the symptoms, like fatigue and low mood, disappear too.

I took off one star for two reasons. It can sometimes be glitchy. I've had it freeze and crash several times while trying to add foods. Usually it starts back up no problem though.

And the other reason is they are sometimes lacking in terms of what foods are available to add. They have most American fresh foods and a few snack foods like Cheez its and crackers, but they are lacking in some things that seem they should have considering some of the obscure foods they DO have in there like jackfruit and various little known berries. They don't have some types of fish, like barramundi, and some of the more obscure types of produce available like dragonfruit, but even baby spinach and different varieties of apples or oranges are missing. Overall though, it's a great tool and I can usually find a close enough food to use in place.

Has the Potential fro Greatness

I love how simple and thorough Wholesome is. It’s pretty easy to find foods or add your own, and it keeps track of a looot of macronutrients and micronutrients, which is particularly helpful for me as a vegan. However, there’s one very annoying problem with Wholesome...
It has this bug where when I use it for a little while, it will stop letting me add foods. I can still look foods up, but when I hit the “Eat” button is gives me an error message saying it can’t connect to network. Once I get this, I can’t seem to ever get this message to go away. It was so annoying I uninstalled Wholesome for a while, but ended up reinstalling it again. Two days later, I’m getting this message again 😡

If just this was fixed about Wholesome , it would be perfect. As it is though, this bug renders Wholesome useless once it starts.

Best app I’ve ever purchased!!

Wholesome is much needed...and so well thought out!! Any nutrition tracker apps I’ve seen are only for macros (protein, fat, carbs, sugar, etc). But I’m not interested in those....They’re so easy to track on your own anyway. The thing I was looking for was something to show all the micronutrients like vitamins and minerals. And that’s what Wholesome specializes in.
This thing is phenomenal. It has a great selection of food when you’re trying to input food into your diary. But the things that blows me away the most is the attention to detail and the user-friendly interface. Any nutrient you are curious about, you can click on and it will bring you to a whole page of information like what it does for your body, what the signs and symptoms are of deficiency and toxicity, what foods are high in said nutrient, etc. And the whole foods like an apple or spinach even go into further detail and you can click on the “tips” tab and they tell how to select them at the store, preparation, cooking, and much more!
Bravo guys!! This is truly a fabulous app!! <3

Helpful for Vegan

I started using this to make sure I was getting the nutrition I needed when I started eating vegan. There is currently no way to tell the program that I am a vegan, so I just checked "vegetarian". I like that it tracks my water intake as well – it reminds me to drink. You can set your desired nutrients (for the most part) for each day too. The bugs that I have experienced in the past 2 weeks are pretty minimal: 4 crashes (out of multi-daily use) when trying to chose from user-added foods, and some difficulty with the screen size. I wish I could set the "amount" of a food that I eat regularly when I save it as a favorite (for example: I drink water a cup at a time, but each time I return to the "water" profile I have to change the amount to "1 cup" from the standard "2 cups"). I'd also love it if there was a way to see the log of food eaten in a way that also showed when it was eaten, though that's a pretty minor improvement. Great app though! It's been working super well for me overall.

Good for vegetarians!

I like Wholesome a lot. I am vegan and have an iron deficiency, so my purpose with Wholesome is to make sure I get enough protein and iron each day. I'm not big into calorie counting, but I also don't want to go too far over my calories and I want to make sure my carb/fat/protein ratio is where I want it. Wholesome makes that very easy!

I only have two suggestions/negative comments:
-Wholesome would be better if I could select "vegan" instead of "vegetarian." When I look at foods recommended to fulfill my needs, eggs and milk are often there. Great for vegetarians, not good for vegans.
-even though I've set all of the foods for added to "public," I can only find them under my foods and not by searching all foods. This doesn't matter much, except for when I'm trying to add foods to a past day--when I'm viewing my foods, the only option is to "eat" it, aka add it to today's diary. I need my foods to either show up within all foods, or have an option to add them to past days.

Invaluable, despite occasional bugs

I love Wholesome it is amazing - better than my fitness pal, because it tracks more, has more functions, and it’s easier to use. If I were to wonder “How the heck did I consume so many carbs already?!” on Wholesome I can quickly see by tapping on the carb bar and seeing a quick breakdown of just exactly which foods contained how much - invaluable. I love how I can also tap on a part of my nutrition, say vitamin E for example, and see what I can eat to get more of said nutrient. Love love love Wholesome! It is not perfect though, some foods are uploaded incompletely and some foods uploaded by other users can also be incomplete or erroneous. And I do wish Wholesome tracked cholesterol - the one thing it’s missing. But if I really want to, I can spend some extra time and use my fitness pal to track that. Please don’t ever take Wholesome down!! Wholesome is so needed and important!!

My favorite app!

Unlike other food diaries, this application counts everything: macros, vitamins, minerals, and even antioxidants. I can see where the gaps in my nutrition is on a daily basis, adjust and edit caloric needs based on percentage of macros, edit nutrition goals (I.e. adjusting daily vitamin intake), put in recipes to track nutrition, and enter in my own ingredients. Healthful recipes and their nutrition content are already available to search, along with links to sites with those recipes.

An update that I would like to see is the nutrition tracking of specific types of fat that are being consumed. Currently, Wholesome will differentiate between intake of linoleic or alpha linoleic fatty acids, but it does not differentiate between intake of saturated, monounsaturated, or polyunsaturated fats. Otherwise, I am very happy with Wholesome and have used it in conjunction with calorie restriction to make sure that I am getting my nutrition too!

LOVE it, and can be improved

I have Crohn's Disease and short bowel syndrome, am underweight and not getting enough calories and nutrition. Wholesome has been better than I've found to help me see what my everyday intake is and where I need to make changes. It clearly shows me my nutrition gaps and offers ideas on how to close them, while providing a user-friendly and pleasant interface. There are some foods that could be added, but it's easy for a user to add the nutrition info themselves.

A few things that I'd like to see improved:
1) After entering what/how much of a food I've eaten, that data seems to be accurately added to the graphs and overall daily nutrition data, however when it shows up on the main food diary page, the amounts revert back to the pre-set amounts, not what I've entered for my serving at that time on that day. I'd like to be able to see the serving size I entered and calories for that particular serving at a glance on the main food diary page, not the pre-set amount.
2) When I tap an entry which I entered earlier in the day, it would be nice if it showed me nutrition data for that particular serving at that data point, rather than taking me back to the pre-set page for me to enter in a new serving.
3) A function within Wholesome that lets me enter in a recipe and Wholesome figures nutrition data for that recipe.

I'm really grateful for Wholesome. It's giving me great feedback.

Finally!

I have wanted an app like this since apps became a thing in the world. I don't care about calories, but nutrition is my #1 priority. The food diary is amazing for this, but it does need improvement desperately. There are items I eat that I can't find, such as goat's milk yogurt. The user uploaded content is the only thing I can find for such items, but because they are derived from the nutrition label on the product it doesn't include any of the micronutrients that may be present in the food. This poses a problem because it may look like you're deficient in micronutrients, even though you're not. There needs to be a full time person that can research individual products and upload the actual nutritional profile for them, not just the label. If this became a priority it would definitely be the #1 food app on the market. Please spend the time to research items that only have limited nutrition labels and you have a serious winner.

Disappointed

I wanted a food tracking app during pregnancy as I am in my 2nd trimester. I found that Wholesome was one of the few that had that option. Right off the bat, I could not add to the food diary with the free version unless I did the paid version for $3.99. I was skeptical cause I was being asked to pay for something I didn’t know I would even like. I can usually tell if I like an app after playing around and I didn’t have the option to do that. Being $3.99 and the only pregnancy food tracker I could find, I decided to just pay. Logging food was frustrating as even simple things were not found so my counts were always rounded to “similar” items. It was nice that I got my calorie, macros, etc. but the information wasn’t useful since it don’t tell me how much more I needed for the day to reach my goals. Also, my profile stats like my height kept rounding down no matter how I change it. Overall, I am very disappointed and even though it was not worth $3.99 to me, at least that was all I lost out on. Would not recommend.

Awesome concept, okay execution

I have had Wholesome downloaded for several years and come back to it to help me find balance when my diet feels lacking. It’s an incredible concept, and I especially have loved the feature that suggests what to eat next to fill the gaps in your diet. Very helpful app for those who want to learn more about micro nutrients. Unfortunately it appears that the creators do not have the knowledge or help they need to get rid of bugs. It’s been years and I still get kicked out of Wholesome when I try to enter a custom food, features appear and disappear sporadically, and the search feature is quite lacking. From the reviews, it’s clear that sooo many users love Wholesome but have similar frustrations. A functional app would draw in more people and make the current users use Wholesome more frequently!

Great Concept HUGE Flaws

I love the idea and wish it was all I hoped for. Being a nutrition aware individual for fun I wanted to see how well Wholesome could track what I already know I am eating but there were huge red flags when non of my supplements were in the barcode database. Making it a huge pain to enter multivitamins such as source of life with tons of vitamins, minerals, and micronutrients some not even listed to be able to be entered manually. Beta carotene doesn’t reflect in vitamin A consumption. Also massive lag time, making it hard to deal with. Can’t search by nutrient page doesn’t load. Also didn’t accurately reflect what I was consuming even after manually entering things. Which definitely doesn’t make it worth the time. Maybe could use it to quick search nutrition of food but google does it faster. Of course keep up the work producer it has potential keep on investing into Wholesome if it was streamlined and accurate it’s be AMAZING!

Love it but calcs are off

I fell in love with Wholesome when I found it. I was wanting to find an app that tracked all my minerals and vitamins and I finally found Wholesome! It’s even better that it suggests which foods to eat based on what you’ve eaten already and has tons of info about different foods. After the first day or so of tracking my food I realized the calculations of how much of each vitamin/mineral/etc I was getting were wayyy off. Which was such a letdown because I was really glad to find something like this. Now I only use it to tell me what I should eat to get a rounded diet and to look up info about the foods. Maybe I’ll look into the recipes too. Please figure out how to make sure you calculations are correct. It said I was getting wayyy more of vits/mins than I really was.

Hopefully it will get better

Obviously it’s hard to contend with a powerhouse like MFP and I think there are great things about Wholesome: the fact that it accounts for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd trimester pregnancy nutrition, whole nutrition, sort foods by color, the ability to input vitamins by mcg/mg vs percents, excellent recipe ideas. I am just rarely able to find the foods I eat on Wholesome because not enough users have used them before. I wish there was a “recently eaten” category. I wish the interface was a little more intuitive. $3.99 isn’t a terrible price, but until there are some improvement, I don’t think I will use this as my daily tracker. What I’ve done is used the this app guidelines for my 1st trimester nutrition needs and mirrored them into MPF... it’s a hassle but it works.

Optimistic but disappointed

I have not come across an app so thorough and useful for tracking overall nutritional intake as this one. That said, to be useful it has to allow flexible, user-friendly units of data input for foods and it is sorely lacking there; I.e, 1/4 cup vs 1 T of pesto. The next problem comes with entering recipes. The above issue immediately manifests itself, but it also must all be done manually, one item at a time where other apps have website integration that make it a snap. (It says it can do this but has a bug and does not work). Also, editing a previous ingredient cannot be done. It must be deleted and added back in again. Finally, it fails to offer a standard user-friendly function... scanning of labels. I can't use Wholesome and I paid for it. Love love love the nutrition component and how it looks for gaps and makes recommendations for nutrients no other app considers. Please fix Wholesome! I want it to work!
