Hi, My daughter Kayla DeCaro was asked to sing the national anthem at your Memphis Hustle game on 12/29/2022 at the Landers Center. We drove a hour to get to the game. When we arrived 2 hours early as requested, my daughter was greeted by Erin O’Neal due to Sonya Murphy calling out sick. Kayla practiced the national anthem twice at center court. The first time she was a little nervous. The second time sounded much better. The tech sound check lady stated that they were going to have Kayla stand by until game began in a room where she could continue to warm up if she wanted to. Kayla came to the stands to let me know what was happening and about 30 seconds later she was called back to Erin O’Neal and another lady who I don’t know who she was. She was white, heavy set, and was rolling around on a medical one leg wheel cart. It was this lady that stated to Kayla that they were just going to play a video after just telling Kayla she did good. She lied stating that Kayla’s rehearsal video was better and that Kayla needed to get a couple more bookings with other people before coming back. This was so unclassy on so many levels. The Hustle called my daughter to sing the national anthem. They should have followed through on there end. Kayla’s singing may not have been Whitney Houston’s level but my goodness it was not bad at all. This lady talking about get bookings somewhere else before coming back, that’s laughable. The Hustle is lucky to get 200 hundred people to show up. What better venue to get something under your belt than at a game where hardly anyone shows up for. Players are mostly playing for there families and the employees that are there from what I could tell. Mentioning of the players and this lady’s zeal for perfection of the National Anthem; how about making your woke players stand their behinds up for the national anthem instead of disrespecting it by kneeling. I wonder with the zeal and perfection she has for the National Anthem if that ever crossed her mind or yours? Heck next time have Furgy do it instead of crushing some kids heart. I even think it might of been a race issue. My daughter is bi-racial and she came with her white dad and white grandmother. Might have been a problem for this lady. It was after Kayla came to me and her grandmother that Kayla was immediately called back and told she wasn’t going to sing. As woke as all these organizations are now days and the type of people you hire who the hell knows. My daughter is bi-racial and not brought up to think half of her bloodline is oppressive to the other half of herself, nor is she raised believing she’s a victim either. She’s raised to judge one by the content of their character (good, or bad) regardless of What color a person is. Character is something this cripple lady don’t have. The only thing my daughter was a victim of tonight was some radical ideologue who don’t mind crushing a kids heart over the national anthem while other players kneel their raggedy butts down for it. What an unbelievable upside down world we are living in, God help us!
